As a custom camper builder and fabricator I have been in this position a few times. A few of those I pushed through and a few I scrapped and moved on. I was shocked when I watched this camper being torn down. My thoughts were this, This is a massive job and can be an amazing part of your journey or a massive nightmare (most likely outcome). When you have space and all the tools needed for these jobs its still a huge undertaking. I for one think you are doing the right thing. You have removed the weight from your shoulders and now you can get back to what you love.
Buy new ..I think you went too far in taking that camper further than it was worth old campers are money pits, so are new ones to some extent. As long as you realize that what you want is attainable and actually exists.
I think this dude just didnt wanna do the work lmaooo how many different campers and or variations like the truck shell, etc has he gone thru. He could buy a brand new one and would still get rid of it eventually for X reason.
Not to be negative, but when I saw the video where you completely tore the camper apart, my first thought was: he will never finish this project. Sad to see the project unfinished, but understand why you made the decision.
I just started watching your videos today. It was interesting seeing all you did to buy the camper. The camper caught my eye, because my dad had a similar one when I was growing up. The family had lots of fun going camping. I'm retired now and enjoy watching videos like yours. You are a smart and honest young man. Stay true to yourself and you will be happy in all you do. Thank you for sharing. Seeya in the next video.
It takes a smart man to realize that he may need to change directions. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I applaud you for doing this. I can’t wait to see what is next!!💕💕💕 Happy Sunday and I wish you a great week ahead.
Jonathan, my wife and I always enjoy your videos. Your sincerity and upbeat personality is to be sought after. We have been avid followers since you went to Canada and bought the Bigfoot! I feel your pain trying to renovate the camper on the fly. I would tell my wife - too bad you were on the other side of the country or we could have helped you with the project. I retired last year from the engineering and construction oil and gas business, and have a garage full of tools, plus a buddy of mine that retired from the airlines with a garage full of tools that I have done multiple projects and renovations and would have drafted him to help too. But, we're here in Florida, so much for that. It was pretty evident that you were into a death spiral on the rebuild and needed to make a drastic change or decision pretty quick. It was getting pretty clear that the reno cost would exceed the cost of buying a new or used camper completed, ready to go or with minimal repairs. You did the right thing. I imagine it feels like a load has been lifted off your shoulders. Nothing left now, but to look forward to your future plans whether camping and cooking or travelling. All the best, and ready for some new takes. Hang in there! Don in Florida.
Dude, that is so awesome of you to share your realization and the actions you took afterward. So much respect for you! Look forward to your ongoing adventures post big foot.
I started watching you because of the camper build. It’s something I want to do but I’ll be honest the videos of you hiking/camping are the best videos. You obviously love it and your compassion sells it. I hope you do find your rig one day but I will enjoy the camping videos along the way.
This is real life! Glad to see you are moving ahead, even if it’s not in the direction you originally planned. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next!
Bitter Sweet. A rebuild like this can suck the wind out of you. As long as you're content with your decision you'll be fine. My wife and I really enjoy your videos. Your cinematography is second to none IMO and your cooking segments are mouthwatering. On Sunday afternoons when we turn on the TV, my wife will often ask me if there is a new Jonathan Yentch video. You take us on the adventure with you and it fuels my desire to finish my vintage camper project. Keep up the good work. I'd really like to see land a big fish for a catch and cook so keep on truckin'.
Didn't come to the channel for the camper, I keep visiting for JY. It's about you and your adventures and what fits. I look forward to being on the trail again!
Your subscriber's advice is spot on! I live in Florida and I see so many people move here and think, "I'll buy a boat! It's going to be great!" Then reality sets in that buying and owning a boat brings a lot of challenges, storage, maintenance, and time to enjoy it. I heard someone say once, "The best two things I've done is buy a boat and sell the boat!" You will find what suits you and works well for you. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. Best wishes!
Subscriber for life here, I can watch whatever adventures you put out, I highly enjoy them. No worries, do what makes you the happiest. You got this. Good luck and looking forward to your future ventures.
Wow! I missed this video when it came out! Now I know why it’s been so long since I’ve seen one of your great videos! SO sorry to see it come to this. I really thought a fiberglass cab over was going to be best compared to your struggles with the Slumber Queen BUT was shocked when you first discovered the moisture problem!….And then I just felt bad for you when you kept having setback after setback but I was impressed with your patience. If it were me I would of already burned that RV down and walked away! Best of luck to whatever you do going forward. NOTE all you learned from this. And it would seem like something as simple and low maintenance as possible would sound real attractive after what you’ve gone through….as long as it provides all your minimal necessities that you require!👍
This is definitely a surprise - thought this was your dream camper - you were so excited when you purchased it. Haven't been a subscriber for long but I've lost track of how many vehicles and campers, truck caps, etc. that you've had in the recent past. I agree, it can be really difficult to let go but sometimes that's just what we have to do.
Glad you came to a decision on the camper. This isn’t about giving up or failure or the likes. It’s about facing your reality that it isn’t working now nor will it work later. So respect you and your decision. May Peace Health and Happiness follow you and yours
I've never built or renovated a camper, but I've been involved in building and renovating a few boats, and when I saw you tearing into the camper I wasn't sure you had fully contemplated the scope of the project. I'm disappointed, as I would like to have seen the finished product, but I can completely understand your decision. Best of luck going forward.
Life is not perfect sometimes we have to compromise. I like how you thoroughly think things out. Looking forward to your next adventure. Always a loyal subscriber.
I'm not disappointed in you for stopping the project at all. You certainly didn't just quit, you've given it more than a valiant effort. It's wise to know when to cut your losses and part of any project is assessing the situation as you go and constantly making decisions and choices, especially when it's your time and money are involved and you're not some giant corporation or an independently wealthy person. Also, most of the big refurb channels have training, skills and money PLUS lots of behind the scenes help. You do what's best for you! To be honest, you've done more than 90% of the commenters (myself included) and i feel you should be proud of yourself. While you didn't finish this build, think of all the amazing experiences and skills you've learned! I'm happy for you and glad you'll be on to the next big adventure!
He made a huge mistake. His sole intention was to buy one then fix it up now he's just giving up on it? wow. Huge miscalculation on his part. Huge mistake huge waste of time money etc I'm disappointed
Agreed. He’s cutting his losses and that takes serious courage because of the nasty comments that people seem to think are necessary. It will be behind him soon enough.
Very proud of you for reflecting and doing what is best for you. No one's opinion matters enough to be held back from what you are meant for! Your honesty, your growth, and your experiences are so amazing. It's been so helpful for me when thinking about camping/exploring. Now it sounds like a weight will be lifted and you can get out there and live YOUR life again 💜
I feel relieved that you have made a decision. I always enjoy watching your videos, even suffering thru the Big Foot Drama. Looking forward to hearing your new plans. Still would love to have you write a Camping Cookbook. 🤩
Well dang. Was really interested watching the progress and quite honestly really impressed with your ability to adjust to the curves the old girl gave you, but you gotta do you. Good luck in the next adventure, will be fun to see where it takes you.
Totally understand what your thinking, I went through the same events with a sailboat! Do what you have to do for you!! I can share with you, you will feel relief once you make the decision to move on, from this project. Looking forward to your next adventure.
You don't have to explain or justify your actions to any of us! You get to do what is right for YOU! This viewer will continue watching your videos no matter the content. You are such a kind, respectful human being. Looking forward to what comes next!😊
Dude I love your vids! I haven’t actually been super current with watching your renovation vids but I’m a huge fan of your channel and your positivity and can’t wait to see some more camping stuff now that it’s getting warmer! I think you’re making the best decision too - it’s never too late to turn a project into a learning lesson!
Just curious if you regret tearing down the Bigfoot to the ground? Do you think you could’ve just used as is and enjoyed for those few months you had it?
Sad to see it getting sold but glad it will take some pressure off of you. I think your reference to a viewer in the video was a comment I made on an earlier video. I always thought it was a good word of advice from my wife; having your own space to do things of this scale is very important I think to the success of a project. Knowing what you know now you’ll be able to look at things from a totally different perspective when you approach the possibility of another project, purchase, etc. I have bought a lot of things in my life, especially motorbikes, cars, etc that don’t turn out the way I hoped they would, but I came away much wiser than the last, at least I hope so! Haha. Anyway, if my advice did help I’m glad. Looking forward to what comes next.
Sad to see the build won't continue but you gotta do what you gotta do so kudos for you for making the hard call there. That takes guts. I hope you find the direction you're seeking!! I build vans on the side and am working on a Ducato build now. Keen to hear about your future adventures.
I've thoroughly enjoyed this series, sad to see it end before the completion, but I understand your decisions! Looking forward to new adventures though :D
My first camper I bought in high school became too much of an undertaking and it wasn’t worth saving, so had to be torn down to the frame. I’m going to sell the frame now many yrs later and I’ll reuse the siding. Some of the wood can be used in my cubic mini woodstove in the camper I live in. Also some other things I can use. But ya just do what’s right for you. Recover what money you can, and think of any lost money as taking a college course that teaches you. You learned many valuable skills and lessons from this project regardless if you kept it, so that is worth something!
Ah, happy and sad you're moving on; happy you have a buyer for unfinished Bigfoot that quickly. I will say, I anxiously waited each week for your latest videos on the progress (and regression at times) of the renovation. Your struggles and mini-successes of the DIY work was great entertainment. Flip the page as another chapter is done and you move on to the next!
I do a lot of camping out of my truck like you, but I’m usually camping out of necessity and convenience, because I do a lot of hiking caving and flyfishing. I like to keep my system simple. I keep all of my camping gear in totes stored in my garage ready to go at a moments notice. I have a topper with a simple sleep set up. Lately, though, I’ve been considering buying a Go Fast camper. It’s still a simple set up and hopefully it will fit in my garage.
With me it's all about economy cost. Quite often it cheaper to buy something new than restore, it just doesn't cost money it also costs time. I love watching people like you renovate as I find the process fascinating I would never bother as it just doesn't add up for me; I am not getting a video out of it generating income from the process. I will also take to heart "if you can't store it you can't have it", so simple a thought and words I will start living by. Stay awesome.
I enjoyed the entire Bigfoot series. Yes, I would have loved to see it finished, but you have learned a ton of things and getting this far on the project helped you decide what to do going forward. People are always finding out things halfway into a project that helps them make a new decision. I am looking forward to seeing the new direction. The camper shell will be a good project for the next owner.
Jonathan you have to do what is best for you. I enjoy whatever you do because you are an awesome person. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Loyal followers will be here no matter what. I trust you. God Bless
Sometimes, you have to cut your losses. I once bought a pop-up camper and didn't really open it up, and when I did, it was rotted out. Midway through the repairs and needing a new camper, I gave up. I ended up just buying one ready to camp in. Good luck in whatever you have in store.
BEEN THERE! We also tore apart a camper and sold it unfinished. SO defeating and also a burden was lifted. I don’t regret selling it (but a tiny regret for buying it in the first place!).
I'm glad that you're going the route that you're going, according to the camper! You're doing what works for you-that's awesome! See ya soon on next video!👍🤗🚙🏞🍽
One thing I've always liked about you Jonathan is your willingness to admit you don't always know everything about everything. I've enjoyed the traveling, the camping, the renovating...even the simple cooking videos! I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, but it's great that you didn't waste so much more time and money!!! Looking forward to whatever the future brings!
Hi there Jonathon, thank you for being so candid with us about your renovation of your camper rig, I know this is not what you want to here but i think you are doing the right thing about moving on from this rig. I look forward to seeing your new video's and what they are going to bring us. Look forward to seeing the next video.
YOU are doing exactly as you’re suppose to ~ We ALL have these kinds of times and get stuck ~ but in the end all does come together & fall into place maybe even better than you anticipated. SO …thank u for sharing this news and the update . Greatly appreciate it and you will rebound ‼️ it happens . Look forward to new adventures and Good Times ahead ⭐️😁 ✌🏽
Stealth van build… just wanted to jump in and add to the number of people who support what you’re doing and enjoy watching someone who has the same interests. It’s not quitting if there’s a plan b, c and sometimes d and f
Don't feel bad Jon, you learned skills that will last you a lifetime. Knowing when to cut your losses is another important skill, and as much as I enjoyed watching the struggle, I think you made the right call. Can't wait to see whats next.
One thing is true: You won't miss the dog's endless barking! lol I'm happy for your decision. You have to do what you have to do. Really. We don't know the hours & hours you have put into Bigfoot. We only see a small portion of all the blood, sweat & tears you have put into BF. And, we don't know how much money & time you have invested in this huge project. As a long time viewer, I'm not surprised. You had a look in your eye that you were getting overwhelmed. Many times, I felt so bad for you after all your hard work, & not having the results you had hoped for. I love your videos of your fantastic outdoor experiences. I enjoy watching you get overwhelmed by beauty; not a to-do list. Hoping the sale of BF works out smoothly for both parties. And, when my husband or myself happen to see a pickup truck with a camper/canopy topper, we both shout, "Hey, it's a Slumber Queen!" Best of luck & get yourself a campsite! Thanks for bringing us along!
I purchased a built out van almost 2 years ago and fully ripped it apart last year with intentions to rebuild. Due to my circumstances I haven’t been able to invest in it and it’s collecting dust. I, myself have contemplated selling it because I know it’s not the rig I want anymore.. my intention still is to build it back out and sell it so I can recoup some of the money lost.. anyway I am mourning with you because I know how much you put into it and I’m sure you’re feeling some regret from gutting it in the first place instead of enjoying it for what it was.. either way you are making the best decision and you can leave it behind you and enjoy what you love doing and being outdoors..
Johnathan I mean no disrespect to you but when I saw you ripping and tearing the insides apart, I said to myself he will never finish this camper. Just my thoughts but every little piece should have been saved for a pattern. It takes baby steps, a little at a time. My guess is that this bigfoot will never camp again. I will still be following your channel, I like your vibe. Learn and move forward. cheers Edman
Good decision man , it seems it's been a up hill fight for you , so do what makes you happy don't worry about what we feel or think , I will continue watching your videos 😊❤️👍
One thing I’ve learned in my 54 years is follow your gut, this is the same advice I give my children, since I figured this out it’s made my life less complicated.
What a roller coaster! This is like a real life soap opera. Love it. I know how ya feel, I’ve made some truck cap decisions lately that are not working out. And now I’m deciding on what direction to go.😂
I enjoy your adventures in one of my childhood homes. Oregon was my mother's home state. As a child we spent summers there. You are making the right decision. Move on. "Beat status quo". Keep traveling and cooking. Your skills are spot on. Wow. I will be looking forward to your next chapter.
Sorry to hear that, bro. It happened to me to keep buying batteries. I always planned to build battery bank, but I was so damn busy with other things. I like you just have a simple setup is remarkable to me.
You have many who follow your adventures. Camping evolves. Important experiences can be had along the way. No big losses here and a lot of learning. Great stuff. Thank you.
Aways finish what you start. The right rig is the rig that keeps you warm and dry. The right rig is the one you have. Flow something through then change your mind if it doesn't work out. The sense of accomplishment will stay with you forever.
Have you considered an "Adventure Van" ? Not as much living space, but can be equipped for extended camping and will get you to all the places you like to go.
Wow, Jonathan! I guess circumstances have overwhelmed this project! When you started on “renovating” this camper you bought…in Canada…I thought “OMG…that is a big project for you!” I felt you shouldn’t have done it…I had one hand over my eye and peeked through the other hoping you would finish it through. But you are young. Wisdom is acquired by successes and failures, especially when costs are involved. Much blessings and wisdom in future projects…
Gm Johnathan What's going on man Love the up date Yes while I am a camper camping person I do 100% agree and have said it my self IF you can't store it you can't keep it We do live by the same thing and hope you do Find the much needed camper or what ever it is to fit you and Tessa
Sometimes we make difficult decisions based on the knowledge we have. You have to do what's best for you. Good luck in whatever your new endeavor is, Jonathan. When I made the decision to live the nomad life I decided to go as new as I possibly could. The 2019 GMC Savana 2500 cargo van seemed to be the perfect first choice. It's been two years on the road and I love it!
No need to feel bad or discouraged. Just move on and start new beginnings. You’ll feel a lot of the weight lifted off your shoulders. Excited to see all the upcoming adventure videos back up again. Keep it up man 👍
Looking forward to camping videos! I did enjoy the renovation, however with your circumstances I would make the same decision. It's unsustainable not having your own space to work on a project. Cheers!
You did what you could now I’m glad you are moving on. I enjoy your truck camping and your cooking. Always take care of yourself that’s what matters. Love you and your videos and chats.
As a custom camper builder and fabricator I have been in this position a few times. A few of those I pushed through and a few I scrapped and moved on. Finally. Get back to your old camping videos. This build was meant to be left behind. Kudos to camping videos.
Buy new ..I think you went too far in taking that camper further than it was worth old campers are money pits, so are new ones to some extent. As long as you realize that what you want is attainable and actually exists.
As long as you keep posting and sharing your experiences, I will be happy to watch!!
Man I knew you were going to quit. Bummer was lookin forward to watching this build.

Don't buy another camper, they require proper use. Buddy heaters produce condensation, which rot wood.
Can't wait to see what you have coming up. Take care!
I enjoy all your videos...just keep doing what you're doing...I'm here for the long haul...
Looking forward to see what coming..
Glad to see you are moving on from this project. Keep up with the great camping and cooking content. Can't wait to see your next adventure!
Called that one
I enjoyed the entire Bigfoot series. Yes, I would have loved to see it finished, but you have learned a ton of things and getting this far on the project helped you decide what to do going forward. People are always finding out things halfway into a project that helps them make a new decision. I am looking forward to seeing the new direction. The camper shell will be a good project for the next owner.
Seriously man. I need you to finish a project at some point.
Jonathan you have to do what is best for you. I enjoy whatever you do because you are an awesome person. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Loyal followers will be here no matter what. I trust you. God Bless
Its all good! Funny, I followed because of your Bigfoot. I guess I will need to video the renovation of my truck Bigfoot truck camper.
Sometimes, you have to cut your losses. I once bought a pop-up camper and didn't really open it up, and when I did, it was rotted out. Midway through the repairs and needing a new camper, I gave up. I ended up just buying one ready to camp in. Good luck in whatever you have in store.
Wow, what a waste of money. Wouldnt it make more sense to finish it and sell it.
Happy Cinco de Mayo!! You're doing a fantastic job!!🎉👍☕
BEEN THERE! We also tore apart a camper and sold it unfinished. SO defeating and also a burden was lifted. I don’t regret selling it (but a tiny regret for buying it in the first place!).
Good call, buddy. It’s important to be able to make these calls when necessary. I’ll still be here, ready for the next thing!
I'm glad that you're going the route that you're going, according to the camper! You're doing what works for you-that's awesome! See ya soon on next video!👍🤗🚙🏞🍽
I scratched my head watching you with that camper. What a project! Can't say I blame you. You can make it up to us by sharing a real Bigfoot story....
Good times ahead Jonathan! Looking forward to the future! 👍👍
I like your energy and outlook. Looking forward to your next video.
Glad you’ll be free of this burden. Hope you find your next setup soon and have better luck.🍀
Live and let go haha! Good luck with the new journey dude;) cya out there!
“If you can’t store it, you can’t keep it” wisest words I’ve ever heard 😂
With your OCD nothing but a new camper will do..youve been thru so many used campers n shells 😊
Excited to see what's next! Good luck with your new dreams!!
Looking forward to seeing what's next... whatever your content is, I enjoy watching whether it's outdoors, or reno's!
Sad to hear the news. The camper build was why I started watching your channel.
Best of luck on your next adventure. Hopefully another youtuber will pick it up and show what they do with it.
Will keep watching where you go next!
It’s cool-the starts, stops, change in direction is all part of your flow-we get you😊
I was upset when the Slumber Queen left I’m sad the big foot is a goner but you know I’m still going to watch. Your my boy 🤘🏼
I, for one, am super happy that these ‘build’ episodes are over. Get back out there…..it’s why I watch! Can’t wait for your next trip! ❤🎉
it seems like it’d be really helpful for you to move somewhere with a driveway / garage to work on whatever project you have next. you got this
He needs major work on his focus.
People are always finding things they wish they had in a camper/Rv. Unless it’s a monster 40’ foot trailer we’re there is a lot of room to build
Good thinking. You good to go! Relax, you the captain of your ship!
Fairly new subscriber. I like your vibe so whatever, wherever your channel goes, I'm happy to be along:)
I am not surprised.
Man i was looking forward to seeing the finished project
Thanks for the update.
Cheers!
This is sad update Jon 😔 but just do what your heart says, we'll just be here to virtually support you 💙
You did what you could now I’m glad you are moving on. I enjoy your truck camping and your cooking. Always take care of yourself that’s what matters. Love you and your videos and chats.
