I have three of them. One for my son and one that I have charged up in case mine runs out of battery in the middle of a long workout or if I forget to charge one pair. They announced a Openswim Pro coming out in Q2 or Q3 of this year. Supposed to have 32GB and Bluetooth (for land) so you can use them on land instead of just in the water. I don't know if I'll get the Pro since I already have other earbuds for outside the water. These will probably come down in price when the Pro releases.
After running and cycling in open headphones I can't see myself going back. I never went full volume anyway but the ability to hear what's up is pretty key to me. That would be epic if they'd combine the mp3 and bluetooth, I'd happily sell my OpenSwim and OpenRun just to have one device. And I hear ya about the charging, I've got my charger set just by the door, so when I'm done they go straight back on it :)
Problem with not using ear plugs is that the sound of water moving past and in your ear dampens the sound clarity. With ear plugs, the sound is actually quite good. Think good headphone sound just muffled a bit. The bass is strong and the treble is a bit muted. Especially on longer swims, they’re a must for me now.
I've tried this last week, it does sound better when they're fully in! However, with my oddly shaped ears most plugs pop out quickly. Including surf ears I've used forever when surfing. Need to deep dive into better ones I guess!
I bought the OpenSwim Pro model and went for my first swim with them last week. I was BLOWN AWAY.... I did not expect them to be so freakin' good. These are nearly perfect. It would be nice to have a playlist editor for the mp3s, but that is it's only shortfall.
such helpful video, many thanks. I will def get this ones. btw, you talk about paying attention on the size we choose, but the official site nor amazon propose different sizes, looks like theres just one?
its a pitty they have no BT and the internal storage at the same time - I was looking for something I can use while swimming and cycling (with BT connectivity while cycling so I can listen to on-line media...).
I agree! I've ended up owning both - OpenSwim and OpenRun Pro for that reason but it looks like they'll release OpenSwim V2 later in the year with both mp3 and BT - I'll defo get a pair and drop a review here. This way I can shift both of the other ones.
They're really good, I've went through a number of headphones and mp3 players over the years and Openswims are definitely the best I've tried. Plus the build quality is top notch so they'll last.
Thanks for the great review! Just one thing I noticed is that when pressing the plus and minus button, I think it speaks Mandarin Chinese but not Japanese.
I've been swimming laps with OpenSwim Pro and they're the best thing since sliced bread! Sounds great using MP3 function as well as Bluetooth. I also have Klipsch sport earbuds that sound fantastic, but I find that I usually just keep using the OpenSwim set for convenience. You forget they're on and I like not being cut off from the rest of the world as I go about my day after the swim. See a lot of griping about the special charging cord. I don't agree. It attaches itself when they're close enough, charges quickly. I store it and headset in the nice zippered pouch that comes with it. I've had them for 3 mos now and can't think of one thing to complain about. If you swim regularly, get them.
Hi I have a question, do you can keep these fully submerged in water for hours if you wanted to? Also you mentioned Bluetooth and I’m wondering if Bluetooth works while swimming, thanks 🙏🏽
@@hollyfoster3575hello I also wanted to ask if they can take youtube to mp3 files? I heard a guy talking about how you could only upload mp3 files you purchased from itunes or similarly
The band that goes behind your neck is what really takes my attention due to it being possibly taken off by the water when you are diving, I'm planning to buy it to use it during swimming competitions so I could get myself hyped up when swimming, I'd like to know if it stays on if you dive head first into the water in a streamlined position and with currents caused by constant heavy splashing when doing some swimming strokes.
I can't tell if they'll stay when diving from a certain height but given that they're staying on my head during pretty significant wipeouts when kitesurfing and surfing I'd say so!
Thinking about getting these for open water swimming. Only thing I can't really find online is if these are 'compatible' with a swimming goggle? Great review btw!
They are, depends of course how you wear your goggles and what kind but mine kinda go just above the ear and upwards if that makes sense so they don't interfere with headphones. So you're good there :)
Openswimming ones are great for swimming. Important notice is that they dont sound the same in the water as they do outside. Sound quality is much better underwater
Love the review :) I have a question I think you half answered... Maybe fully and I just missed it. What about the swimming cap over these? I pull mine over my ears and was wondering if that is still ok to do or do I need to somehow sort the cap so that it does not cover my ears?
Just tried and it works fine - actually, the music is louder that way too :) Same effect as when using ear plugs. The back bit goes under the cap but the ears can easily be covered 🤙🏻
Hello, thanks for the comments. I have a critical question. I tried the headphones in the store but the back is a bit loose, will this cause a problem while swimming? While other shokz models have a mini size, the swim model does not. Should the back be loose while swimming?
Mine are new and there is DRM in the headphones that blocks you downloading converted MP3 tunes like from TH-cam for example, if you google it everyone has the same issue and you can only upload songs you own or purchase
@@bazslade6456 I don't know what to say, but that hasn't been my experience at all. They work fine for ocean swims, but in the pool they just don't seem to be able to handle the flip turns, at least for me, and I'm no longer 20 so my speeds, and distances, are reduced. (5/6K every day is a great distance!) For the pool I use the Finis Duo. They attach to the goggle straps and therefor don't have any problems with flip turns.

If you're not going to swim in them, there's far better bang for your buck available.
Thanks Jake. Neat glimpse into your use cases.
This is such a good review in 5.mins. you should review everything I'd watch it!!!!
That's much appreciated dude! Just putting together review of Shokz new OpenSwim Pro - non sponsored of course.

@@JakeOski Lucky for me, the earplugs that come with Shokz work fine for me. Have you considered wax earplugs? They conform to the shape of your ear.
@@PureNRG2 That's my next step, surfing in cold waters caused a bit of a surfer's ear bone growth already so gotta get something sorted for sure!

Totally my bad dude, my OpenRun Pro’s come in 2 sizes, these are indeed one size, sorry!

Thanks. While in the swimming pool can you receive notification or ringer when there is an upcoming call or even the possibility to answer?
Standard ones have no Bluetooth, the Openswim Pro do.

Fantastic review!! 👏👏👏 Waiting for the new pros set to drop any day now
Yeah dude, can’t wait! I’m getting a pair for sure, they should replace both OpenRun Pro and OpenSwim for me :)
Where can I download songs legally?
You'd have to buy albums via iTunes or Amazon Music for example
I just got a set for my birthday. Thanks for the video, very excited to try them out! (They are charging right now!)
Stoked dude! Enjoy!
Also could you name the zound u use in the background?
The background music? It's Encore (Instrumental) by King Sis from Epidemic Sound but she's on Spotify etc. too
No one tells you that you can only download tunes that you own from itunes , Amazon or prime and wont play converted MP3 tunes
Mine does play any and all MP3 files I’ve tried so far

@@NickChahal I’ve literally drag and dropped mine via Finder on Mac and they all play alright. Really odd? Same with my new Swim Pro’s
Where are you getting the music from?
@NickChahal awesome to know thanks
The guideline language of mine is in the korean language, how to change to english?
Press plus and minus button for 2 seconds and you’ll cycle through languages :)
Someone knows which is better in sound? Nank runner diver2 pro VS shokz openswin pro.
do I still need earplugs if I plan on purchasing these headphones?
They sound better with earplugs but they're defo not necessary. I've never had plugs that stayed in my ears anyway.
Can I download music from you tube?
Sure, search for NewPipe
Do they swim above water?
Nope, they don't float I'm afraid
At the beginning my pair would last around 6 hours. Now two years later I barely get an hour out of them. I won't be buyng another pair.
They do not work well for lap swimming. They don't handle flip turns well.
Good to know dude, I've never done that so couldn't tell - thanks!
They do work 5/6k swims seem ok

😂
Where does one acquire good quality music? 😂
One can purchase it on Amazon, iTunes and other services as albums or... use the wizardry of Google ;-)
Its Chinese. It's saying shokz MP3 player
Put in earplugs and bam noise cancelling headphones
Pretty much 😁
I'm gonna buy them because it's a mp3 player. So I don't have to bring my phone on a run 😊
Had the old xtrainerz, byt they died 😅
For sure! There's a hybrid one coming out soon so both mp3 and BT, also waterproof - OpenSwim Pro, I'll have a test model to see what's what!
