We are looking to upgrade our towing vehicle to a 200 series in a few months. This has been the best video i've seen explaining and showing axel load calculations. Cheers
One of the best videos on this subject I've seen - many people only think of ball weight added to the vehicle and overlook rear axle loading due to weight transfer effects from front to rear caused by distance from rear axle to hitch load point, you've done a great job of demonstrating this. Would be worth including how much fuel you were carrying, presumably near empty (~10l)?
Hi Guys, Great video and I have a couple of questions, you’ve lost 166kg from the front axle, do you consider that warrants a WDH? What have you done to ensue the van is level when connected to the vehicle? Regards Shane
So you need to heavily modify the Landcruiser 200 series after you have already paid a lot for it and spend an extra 74k on it to get it to tow well? Will have to consider something else.
Was does it ride like with little weight? Got a Lovells 4.2t kit and it's now back breaking even with load and that's with 4 adults and 200kgs in the rear
Great informative video, I have a LC 200 a van with 2.5 t with 265 kg TBW have been trying calculate the rear axle load . What is the cost of the Jmac rear axle upgrade is the rear diff housing replaced? thanks Ian.
Hi Ian, its not a cheap exercise. The hardware from Jmacx is $20K+ (4200 GVM kit) plus upgrading wheels and tyres on top. Does include the rear diff housing upgrade. Jmacx are pretty transparent with their costing on their website so have a look there for more detail.
The 200 provides a great platform for towing but often requires upgrades to get it over the line. At least this vehicle is well supported with aftermarket options so you have the ability to get the set up you want... if the budget allows.
Hi Andrew, Know your a Toyota fan and a Fan because you they can have a GMV upgrade. Is Cruisemaster going to take up my warranty if something should go wrong? Toyota clearly state the OME operating parameters for their vehicles. I take the vehicle into a suspension facility and have it modified from OME, Toyota is no longer going to honour that warranty because the vehicle has been modified. If the failure is a driveline failure, engine, transmission, diff, the suspension company is not going to cover the claim as they never modified these components. So where does my warranty now lay? I would suggest your advice of a GMV upgrade has the potential to be an extremely expensive upgrade.
@@TerribleTezza Hi Terry, No he has not and Im not expecting him to either. Cavet Emptor (buyer Beware). The same as Justin from Trip In a Van has not replied to me when I asked him why I would I spend my hard erned on King Wheels.(He is an ambassador for King Wheels) King wheels website states. "All King Wheels products will not be warrantable if used in off-road or motor sport applications." Whilst if you have deep enough pockets I'm confident this would fall over in a court of law, as Consumer law clearly states a product has to be fit for purpose. King wheels are selling wheels for 4x4 vehicles what are 4x4 vehicles designed to do? But the esier option is not to buy the product that they are not willing to warrant if used for its real purpose, spend your money elsewhere, not on lawers, barristors and QC's..
I find it’s incredibly difficult to believe you cruiser only weighs 3162kg. I have the same cruiser with arb gvm kit, and wheels and tires, no other accessories and it weighs 3010kg with full tank. Your cruiser has far superior gvm kit (with new heavy duty axle), front and rear bar, roof racks, side bars etc. Either the public weighbridge is wrong, or yours is.
Hi Roscoe, we have full confidence in our scales. We use them daily and they are regularly serviced. If you are concerned about your vehicle weight it might be worth bringing it in to us, your local Pedders or another specialist weigh centre for a second check.

Best video ive seen explaining and clearly showing the individual weights.
This video is awesome guys thanks for the detailed run down on weights.

Actually close to full
Toyota's official kerb weight includes fuel, so it makes sense that the Cruisemaster team measured everything with fuel onboard.

Hi guys, great video,
Out of interest what would a build like this be roughly worth?
Hi Michael, this build is valued at just over $74,000!

Interesting that the 200 Series couldn’t handle a 3.2T van without GVM upgrade.

It appears it would have been wise to buy a bigger truck that needed no modifications, keeps the regular warranty and would undoubtedly cost less.

Understeer much?
Pretty much in line with all Landcruisers, but certainly not a racecar
