    Chauncey Billups once said about Melo "Scoring 30 meant too much for Melo". If the team won but Melo didn't get his, he would be mad. ""It meant too much because he could have games where he had 20, 22 [points], we win the game and he's mad."

    • @blueblur2273

      All scorers are like that. When Phil Jackson brought the triangle offense to the Bulls Phil told him he probably wasn't gonna lead the league in scoring. MJ made sure to let him know he would. When Magic 1st got to L.A. Kareem let him know that he could be the leader of the team but to make sure he got the ball down low so that he could get his shots. Shaq would always say he was a 28 and 10 guy and that if he doesn't eat he won't do the other big man things that the team wanted him to do. Melo was the main scorer for his team. That was his role. So it makes sense he would be disappointed if he didn't do his role.

Just goes to show that MELO never developed himself to help his TEAM win. CHAMPIONSHIPS and DEFENSE. Magic was an assists/steals leader and was an incredible player maker, one of the best. All those players found ways to contibribute to their TEAM in more ways than just scoring, unlike Self-centered Melo which is what Chauncey allued to! Think about that! lol

But the thing they had in common and got them all over the hump is that they all played with top 50 players. Kareem didn't start winning until Oscar came to the Bucks. Then went to L.A. and couldn't win until Magic arrived. MJ and Shaq didn't start winning until Pippen and Kobe's game matured. Shaq and Kareem didn't change at all from before they started winning championships till after. They just got more help

      @@atrain-wr9je You do realize it was a poison pill contract? Knicks were about to match the 8-8-8 deal from Houston but Houston changed the offer to 5-5-15 which the Knicks couldn't match because it would cost the Knicks 40M in luxury tax just to retain him and it will take a huge bump in cap. It was never about Carmelo. It was about the money and the flexibility of the roster. The Knicks actually felt betrayed with Lin(or Lin's agent) when Lin's camp signed the poison pill Houston offer when Lin camp knows for sure it was offered to keep the Knicks out from matching the offer. The job of the poison pill contract is to force the original team to pay a chunk of money during the last year of the contract if they decided to match it. The poison pill only applies to the player's original team, not the ones offering him. Houston still paid him 8-8-8. That is why Carmelo called the poison pill contract a ridiculous contract, because of its structure.

    Nobody in their right mind would argue Carmelo is less talented than Jeremy.
    It's just Knicks offense were so different after Melo comes back. From the free flowing passing game of Jeremy , to slowed down , watch Melo do isolation. Yes , I agree with Chauncey Billups, scoring 30 meant too much to Melo in the expenses of team win.
    Watching that Jeremy Lin directed offense, just reminded me so much Steve Nash at his best. It's free flowing.

    • @blueblur2273
      @blueblur2273 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lin was nothing like Steve Nash. Nash was a hell of a passer. Lin was nowhere near as good passing the ball like Nash was and for the most part was a scorer. So let's stop with that comparison. Lin was a product of D'Antoni system who benefited from playing weak defenses. His run was only like a month long and he never looked that good again for the rest of his career proving it was a fluke. Without Lin the Knicks were better the following year under Woodsen winning their 1st 50+ game season since 00.

    • @이딩딩-d2q
      @이딩딩-d2q ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Deez why is he a casual for saying that. He’s right that Lin wasnt Nash. Yeah they primary utilized the pick and roll but Nash’s vision and passing skills are top tier. Lin was more of an attacker who kicked out when the defense collapsed on him. And I dont know about weak defense but D’Antoni used him through the pick and roll like he did with Nash which allows the pg much more freedom and ability to utilize ball possession more than any other positions. Chris Duhan is the single game leader for assists for the Knicks thanks to D’Antoni. Let that sink in. Chris Duhan. He was a fine player but he isnt Stockton. Likewise Lin thrived under the system thanks in part to D’Antoni’s system. No shame in that but as an Asian American I feel like we gotta put things in realistic perspective.

    Knicks was on a losing streak of 7 games (I cannot remember how many games but it was a stretch). Melo was frustrated and had some verbal fight with Brandon Jennings of the Bucks in which of course they lost. It was news that Knicks cant win then. A few games before that Nets birth of Linsanity, Lin was striving on 2-3 games in garbage time vs Celtics, etc.
    Melo was having issues leading the Knicks to victory. Morale is very low. No life in plays. Too much pressure for Melo.
    Then Lin emerged and everything is history.
    The Melo & Jr Smith side comment on Lin's "ridiculous" contract says it all.
    Hard fouls by Melo & Tyson Chandler vs Lin was evident.

    So why didn’t you just talk to him ? You were on a 10 day and got an opportunity and you don’t approach the man of the squad - fake humble

    That's why LBJ is the GOAT! You know he's genuinely happy for his young guys who have breakout seasons (ex. Austin Reaves). Cmon Melo!!!

      You do realize with as much hype that Melo got...for the "hometown" boy...did Melo ever win any championships for the Knicks? No...did Melo retire as a Knick? No....did Melo miss the playoffs on multiple occassions? Yes. Did he leave the knicks when they were losing? Yup. Again, check your hypocrisy at the door. Melo was a selfish black hole.

      His game clearly evolved from his early days into his prime. Knee injuries took him out of his prime during the height of his game, but he def evolved as a player.
      Better defender, better shooter, got rid of the ball faster, and was a more willing passer. He just never played with a great squad in his prime for more than 1 season and a half.

    It's a shame he had to go to a team like the rockets with someone like Harden. He could've thrived on another team where he handled the ball and a solid big for a pick and roll offense.
