Great sailing where always is rescue boat in case of capsizing. Here in Brazil, we have no boats around us and need to carry a lot of flotation to right our boat😮
Thanks. Great question…yes, we have all the bugs, lice, mozzies…but we make sure we use bug juice and I have a mozzie net over the top of my sleeping bag. 👍🏾⚓️
G’day mate, looks like a great little boat, however from the shot of the boat upturned, there seems to be no scope for hat dagger board to “give” if it grounds. Is the case designed to take shocks like that? I’m just thinking back to my childhood sabot days where an extended case allowed the dagger board to tilt backwards and absorb some impact energy 🤔
If I hit something with the CB down the impact would throw me out of the dinghy before something gave way. The strength to weight ratio on John's designs are far more than a sabot.
Looks good, BUT, in the Caribbean the bugs -- noseeums, mosquitos, etc, would eat you alive before morning. But a cheap mosquito net would drape right over the top or hang down from the seats... either way.
Lovely boat. I am looking at a similar build. It would be very interesting to see a capsize drill. I don’t know what your experience is with capsize drill in similar boats but these ‘little’ guys can hold a lot of water.. A controlled capsize with people around to help would enable you to think about recovery. Can you pull the dagger board from outside of the boat to use as a step ? Do you have sufficient bailing bucket ? Are your lockers sufficiently secured ! Do you need extra rope or hand holds to aid righting/getting aboard. Also you seem to have a lot of loose gear - which I know if unavoidable in a small dinghy but maybe this would give you some ideas for secure stowage Please don’t take my comment as criticism, that not how it’s intended, just food for thought, also not many TH-cam videos about this so maybe it could be good for views. Enjoy your sailing 👍
Thanks mate. It seems so long ago that I made this video and was just a bit of fun. Sea Pup is sadly no longer part of our fleet, but we do have some capsize videos planned in some of our 'larger' dinghies. Stay tuned...
Hello, I really like the Sherpa design and for years I have never been able to like inflatable tenders and could never fit them next to a classic sailboat. Recently, I have been seriously interested in making a composite (due to lightness) tender, Is it possible to use it as a motorized tender by making a change to the Sherpa design and Would it be a wise choice to undertake such a task?
I have a Sherpa with a 2.5hp mercury. Either long arms or a tiller extension recommended. You definitely don't need more power. Yamaha 2 hp would be good choice too. Very easily driven hull. Goes a very long way on one litre of fuel.
Have you sailed Michael Storer's OZ Goose? How does it compare to the Sherpa? I'm guessing the Goose is faster but less forgiving and can't be rowed. Would you take it microcruising?
Man your living the life! Eff materialism, the rat race, golddiggers, and conspicuous consumption! The waterway systems will never go away; if anything they'll increase! And all free, no traffic, no internal composition pollution, no control grid, you are free!
A oerfect mini cruise, thanks for posting that Matt, great story.
Thank YOU! ⚓👍
I think the Sherpa looks a lot simpler and easier build than the Scamp, you've got yourself a winner there, thanks for sharing.
Just a beautiful country. I often fantasise about moving over!
Watching from NZ.
thanks again
What a gem of a boat. You have her well set up too by the looks of it....
tiny big boat!
Fantastic Micro Cruiser, she's got everything you need, with a ton of volume. Tassie looks great for adventures
That looks like a great little boat to sail in that area. Thanks for the share!
thank you
Another great Video Matt, love the Sherpa, may build one after I finish my Pathfinder, hey but don't tell the wife, Ha ha.
Thanks for showing us the boat in such a great video. The weather is key isn’t it?!
Looks like a sweet little dinghy and a lovely outing.
A good video mate - nice boat and cruise, and a GREAT history lesson about the families on the Iron Pot..😮 Tough back then..😂
I like that type of sail. Looks so easy single handed. but no idea how to use it.
Great video, great little boat 👍.
Thanks for sharing that with us. Enjoyed every minute.
What a great little boat, well done Matt
Great video Mat, inspirational! "Sea Pup" looks terrific! Bravo!!
Love your boat. I have a 7'7" nutshell and would love to build the 9'6" version. That Sherpa has me thinking though. Subscribed!
That's a beauty! Building a pathfinder in New Brunswick now, jealous of your coming summer!
You're living the dream there bro. Cheers from NZ! Subscribed!
Great video thanks. Reinforces that I could camp cruise my 10 footer. Cheers
Absolutely Petrea...go for it!
Great video, lovely boat, awesome location but if there is a Kraken I out 😂😂😂
to quote the title of a book ' Small is Beautiful '
Love your work Matt!
David from Triabunna!
great sailing and vid ,thanks !!
Well done Mat, a most enjoyable watch, thanks for taking us along..
The Lightkeepers house must have been something, shame they tore it down. Interesting bit of history, thanks for sharing.
Lovely video
Cracking video, thanks
so great
thank you
Lovely wee boat; great wee film 👍

It took waaay to long to step the mast and setup in the morning. I suggest you check your procedure with Captain Monkey and all will be well. Cheers
No bugs/sand fleas in Taz? Great video and super nice boat!
Thanks. Great question…yes, we have all the bugs, lice, mozzies…but we make sure we use bug juice and I have a mozzie net over the top of my sleeping bag. 👍🏾⚓️
You seem to cope OK with the limited internal space. Are you pleased with her handling at sea?
Pound for pound, the Sherpa is a very capable boat.

Great little boat and enjoyable video! Have you done any sailing on Tassie's larger lakes?? Would love to try it sometime.
Thank you. Yes, we've spent a lot of time on Pedder. Our next video will feature some footage. Stay tuned...

glad you ate the crab! can't subscribe twice otherwise I would have!
thanks mate. just had a look at your channel....some great stuff there! well done...stay salty...Mat.
Any sand flies when camping at the beach like that? Where my boat is, one would be eaten alive by insects if camping on the beach like that.
Hey there. Yes...there are lots of bugs, but my sleeping bag has net over the head.

My sleeping bag has a net over the top and prevents the bugs from eating me at night. Thanks for watching.

Thx for the video, what is she like to right after a capsize ?
I've never capsized her, however I can't imagine any different to other 9' dinghies, other than slightly higher freeboard.
Do you know of any Scamps for sale
@@richardcalvert387 none in Tasmania
4.5 knots is > hull speed for that LWL, isn't it? You must have been planing!

Hi. Yes, if you mean use a small outboard. The transom is designed to take an outboard.

I've not sailed an OG, but would love to!
