My thought on seeing your new dress with your hair down was: “What a strikingly beautiful woman!” The colour suits your natural colour! And it just is remarkably lovely! Bless you Maire!
I was in Michaels with my 8 year old niece. We walked through the goth and white Halloween sections and then got to the pink fuzzy pumpkins. She looked at them and literally said "Pink Halloween! This is for me!" So there you go. Specifically made for my niece. 😁😋
I had a “I’m not appreciated, I’m not worthy, I shouldn’t be here” moment and threw all of my fabric and scraps out. Am in a much better headspace now and have just bought a t-shirt pattern to restart making my own clothes again, Go Maire!!!
Im glad to see a little goofy footage at the end! For the record, I think the colors dont look too spring. The turquoise is universal and the pinks in there are definitely summer pinks!
you can find mint extract in the baking section of a grocery store, and check the tea section for mint tea. Also if you like the smell good pipe Tabaco can be used to repel most crawlies, but keep that away from the kitties, nicotine is actual poison, but a bit in an unused cup in an enclosed pantry works well!
I may have to see if the Husbeast has some old pipe tobacco kicking around (we gave up tobacco years ago, so it may need to be livened up). Thanks for the tips!
I love dresses for those ‘wildly outside my usual aesthetic’ fabrics - no need to try and figure out what other pieces are needed to turn it into an outfit.
I think that turned out really well, and it looks good on you! It also looks really comfortable, and I love a garment with practical pockets. The colors, at least in the lighting in this video, look like they work with your coloring, they don't wash you out or anything.
That dress is so pretty and summery. You look fantastic in it. I sew at my kitchen table and have a curious younger human and two cats to keep away from my pins. I always put them away after using them but my best purchase for pin safety was a a magnetic pin cushion. I can just drop the pin above it and it will stick on. Can put a pile of pins on and pull them off as I need them. Also I check my floor with a torch and can use the pin cushion to pick up any that have dropped rather than try to use my fingers.
My Mum had something like that. It was a round plastic pin jar with a magnetic top with a hole in the middle (like a doughnut). Eventually the top separated from the bottom, but that's what she used for years. I tried a magnetic pin thing for a bit in the past month and...it didn't really do it for me. I found the pins hard to pick up. So...china it is - for now, at least
I absolutely love that floral fabric. Wonderful choice. Thanks for highlighting Helen’s Closet patterns. I’d never heard of her before and the size range is right where I need to be looking for patterns. Modifying it to have adjustable straps just makes sense. Just want to say how inspirational your videos are. I’m also in the phase of revamping my wardrobe to fit a changing body & it is so helpful to see how you’re doing it. Thank you.
Yep. The Michael's near where I live has items for Spring, Summer, Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and, of course, Christmas! Your dress came out really nice and looks good! It's wonderful to be dazzled by something you've made. I'll be doing bust adjustments in the future so that I can be dazzled too! Wow. The kittens have grown so fast. Please give each a pat from me.
Very cute. I like the teal color on you. The battle with the spiders continues at my house. Yesterday, one was brave enough to come across my cutting table.
I also use a fancy little china dish for pins. I used e6000 to glue magnets to the under side so that, when the cats throw it across the room whilst playing parkour, I lose minimal pins. 😊
I absolutely love those colors on you. I just love those colors in general. Sundresses are very versatile, besides actually wearing it as intended, you can use them as a jumper or under a jacket.
I live in Northern California, where the weather fluctuates, for example, at the beginning of the week it was in the 80s, now it's the low 70s next weekend is due to be back in the 80s. So a versatile dress like that can be layered is a wardrobe must. Today, I have on leggings under a jumper but no blouse, later on when the sun sets it will be in the 60s.
Fabric scraps get sorted, anything big enough to get more pattern pieces from is saved, anything smaller but useable for doll clothes gets put aside or goes into the quilting cart. Some ends up as future stuffing and some does go in the landfill where unavoidable. It helps having nieces with dolls one can sew for.
What a lovely frock! I have three floral dresses that are always the first things I wear after washing day, & I think I coild use another one. Being able to turn it into a pinafore is a plus. Thankyou! Looking forward to your shirtwaist dresses next!
I keep all my scraps but my mother often went back to throw them out >_> and then I'd look for them to make something and find out. Now I can Assert my claim on them better, but also Boy do I wish I still had my pile of scraps now that I want to start patchwork
Yikes! One does not throw out another's scraps. Though, if it was my Mum, you'd open a bolt to find it was ALL scrap. Just...really well folded scrap 🤣
I use my scraps in quilting. At first I thought it would be just be something to do when I have too many scraps, but now it is a whole hobby. I love taking my tiny scraps and turning them into a full quilt. It is a very slow hobby, but I love it so much. I didn’t expect that either. And I’m finally finishing the first quilt I started back during Covid.
That is such a cute dress on you. The colors are delightful. And the adjustable straps are a great addition. I know that I'll haveta consider fit-and-flare if I get this pattern for me. The struggles of a pear shape!
Looks amazing on you. Another dress pattern I want to try as well. My weight fluctuates daily, due to my chronic illnesses so I have taken to wearing skirts and dresses because pants are a nightmare with fitting and can cause pain. Not having much luck finding natural fibre dresses I can afford so will need to make some. I was at Costco earlier this week with a friend, who takes me for my gluten free stuffs, and we saw the tree and groaned at the same time. I actually bought a ceramic cauldron at Michael's earlier this summer with a 40% coupon. Going to use it as yarn bowl so my makes can feel more witchy. I loved a lot of the darker Halloween stuff at Michaels but the cost, even using their coupon, was eye raising and not in the budget. The cup struggle is real lol I have to have my bf remind me when I see a new mug that I don't have space at home for more mugs, especially since I seem to use the same two over and over because things taste better out of them. I really need to declutter my mugs to make room for better mugs. What is it with Spiders running across the wall out of nowhere? I jumped earlier this week because one ran out from behind my desk and all over the wall, basically screaming "look at me, I'm dancing". Very much giving the vibes of a toddler wanting attention cause they just learned a new thing. The worse part was, because it was behind my desk lamp the shadow on the wall made it look so much larger than it actually was. I spoke up and said it could stay as long as it didn't try and come onto my desk at all (that was a jump scare when another one did that months ago). So far it has just stayed on the wall, occasionally coming out and doing it's dance of attention lol. Had to rescue a ladybug and some other weird outside bug yesterday. Going to try those tips on the spiders because *shudder*. Need to also figure out how the other two got in and stop that .
I save large pieces in case I need to repair or enlarge the garment later on, small scraps get thrown into basket to be shredded for stuffing bum rolls. Initial mock-ups often get used for dust cloths, and I save the final mock-up to save time if I ever make the garment again.
Love the dress ! The colours are so beautiful for you. Thanks for the video. Just started saving fabric scraps for miniature dollhouse projects. 2 inch sofa cousions and 4 inch nighties. No scrap is too small.
"if you move your needle to over to understitch the pockets, be sure you move it back" lmao I literally did this a couple days ago but the other way around, I put my zipper foot on but forgot to move the needle and it's honestly a miracle it didn't break the needle in the process *edit* dress came out soooooo cute btw
I keep my offcuts for potential future patching/repairs to the garment, and/or for other projects - doll stuff (if the pattern and drape work for smaller scale), linings, mockups, pathcwork, and (for the really small pieces of suitable fabrics), crumb quilting. Also - Oooooh! Shadowrun. I haven't played that in a couple of decades! The dress looks very nice indeed. As for how loud/bright it is - it's positively tame compared to the vibrancy of my wardrobe so I'm probably not the best one ot comment on that.
Sorry, stuffed up there lol. Winter weight fabrics and hand knits underneath should be in your plans. Wow. A pattern to see you through most of the year, or until you get tired of making it anyway.
You should hot-glue a little magnet to the dish! I did mine to the bottom and (until I knocked it to the floor and shattered it) it was really helpful for pin management
I considered hot glut and magnets...then decided I'd rather keep the dish as-is. I grew up around antiques, so have an aversion to altering them outside restoration 😃
I love the dress. The colour is definitely summer appropriate. Btw I fully understand your reaction to wasps, I'm allergic so I scoot as soon as I see one.
Looks wonderful. You look lovely too. It’s perfect even with the colours being outside the “norm”. It’s fun to have the occasional thing that just pops with colour. The stores bring things out earlier and earlier is just another thing to ignore as far as I’m concerned. I really hate when you have back to school, Halloween and Christmas all out at the same time.
Oh I forgot to say I always keep scraps but the system depends on what it is and the size. All the mask scraps are in a bin for the future quilt I’ve been threatening to make. Ok I admit that there really isn’t a system for the rest but I have plans to have a better system someday
The dress turned out so nice! While the pattern and colour choices might not be your usual aesthetic, it suits you beautifully! I hope you got some more wear out of it this summer. Where I live the weather changed practically overnight, going from 25-33Celsius to 8-15C within a few days. With a long sleeve shirt and maybe another layer under the skirt, you could probably wear this in spring even on colder days. I love this type of dress
Our weather changed quickly, too! I need to get my hands on a few long-sleeved tees because most of mine are short, and I'm wearing through my old longs. Will definitely extend the wear on the dress 😃
We are still trying to get set up for sewing. We knew when we moved in May, it was going to be a while because we needed to build two outbuildings to fit in this house. Sigh. Someday I will get to take the full bust adjustment for a spin. I appreciate the WoW dance demonstration, lol.
Am following the archnid saga- good grief 😅 I feel for you, but you make me laugh 😂🖤🕸 Also - you look so beautiful and happy in the dress ❤🎉 I love it!!
The fit looks good, ease fine. I liked the fabric more in the reveal for some reason. Your favorite pocket could have been topstitched to the front ( one layer) that way it stays in place. Spiders are apart of spooky season aren't they? I exterminate them if they scare me but know that they do good in the house as they eat the bugs that make us sick. So just think of the ones in your sewing area as Cleaners 😅🩷🙏💜👍🖤
How fantastic! It looks amazing on you!! I recently made 2 Reynolds dresses, and while i really love the hem finish, man those darts gave me the WORST problems... I must have ripped out and redone them at least 4 or 5 times on each dress.... I also found it to be oddly large even though it shouldn't have been. (Also I feel you regarding stinging insects. I have literally run into the street and almost fallen off a mountain....!)
Strangely enough, I didn't have a lot of trouble with the darts. But yes...a little larger than expected. But that could be due to how I enlarged things 😁
Love-x-3 the dress. It looks so comfortable, too. Currently too focused on spinning (Norwegian wool this time) to sew right now, but...maybe...in the future...?
I recently discovered your channel and been hopping around watching your videos. I adore everything! Speaking of spiders, I recently had a very close encounter with one (on my bed whilst I trying to fall asleep) and I have to say I used up my peppermint and lavender oil around my place. (Though be careful with those oils around cats (and dogs) because they are toxic to them, try to avoid skin contact.) Thanks for showing off your cats, they are beautiful.
The dress is very nice. I also wish Christmas would stay in December but alas it does not. I didn't mind Halloween, but I'm also not motivated enough to dress up. My house doesn't do any seasonal decor. We are just too lazy to put it out and then put it away and store it for his ever long. 😅 I do like fall though, i like the colors and the weather much better than summer. 🍂
That's a great sundress, looks fantastic on you. I love that fabric, it's something that would fit in with my summer wardrobe, even if it does read more "spring" than "summer". P.S. have a family member who works at Michaels, shall have to share your review/commentary with them, I know they'll appreciate it.
Sorry! I meant Spring vs Summer in colour analysis rather than seasonal wear...look up Carole Jackson's "Color Me Beautiful" for more info 😃 And I hope I don't cause a ruckus by thinking the skeleton looked like it was reading on the loo
@@MaireColclough No worries, I wasn't that clear either! I'm classed as a "Summer" in the colour analysis world too, but I wear what I want. (And I agree with how that skeleton looks at first glance! Pretty sure my family member will get a kick out of it.)
Orange, expected, pink, very weird for Halloween. White and light blue, do they know that Halloween is not for sad beige moms? Love the psychic Gothic look personally.
I use my scraps for baby and kids clothes. I don’t have children but my friends and family do. I made Chinese split pants for potty training I think those pants are on their 5th kid now
@@MaireColclough it looked like an old gun or rifle rack. ( storing things cylindrical in a vertical closet)I suggested using it for decorative brooms. Now I can't remember the video.
@@forced2makethisbloodyaccou355 Ah yes. The original owners' gun rack. We'll figure it out eventually. It currently holds a few old VHS tapes while we get things sorted out over here. 😁
You you good in that dress, mind you i have gotten rid of all my tasteful former work clothing finally and i am wearing even brighter coloured garments. Doing adjustable straps is good. When i went to adjust my good tank tops after i lost weight i was surprised that i had to shorten all the straps by 2 inches after i took the body in. I didn't lose height... My scraps go into a box. Someday i will get back to making fibre sculptures, Someday. I have 3 containers depending on size of the scrap.
Hooray for sculpture! I found some of Mum's soft sculpture fabric and have been debating a project I've wanted to do for years that suddenly became somewhat controversial (sigh). Someday, maybe.
Wait...other people are not getting all-year decorations from the fall collections? Due to my country never sells cute Halloween fabric, I have to make a shirt from an extra bedsheet cover, otherwise I found myself to minimize my new home decor stuff into my living space.
You sure you only lost 50 lbs? Your face looks a lot slimmer than just 50 lbs gone. Either way you look great. I never in a million years would've guessed you would choose that fabric. It looks like something I would've chosen for myself and made a sundresses with. Maybe a mom and daughter sun dress if my daughter was still my mini-me and not a moody hormonal teenager. So I take it with all your spooky decorations you and Charlotte aka Ms Spider and not beasties. Can't say that I blame you. If I could get away with it I would plant peppermint all around my house. Unfortunately that stuff take a lot of water to thrive and this year's monsoon season has been lacking, better than last year but still not enough to actually flood my yard which it needs. To help off set my water bill for keeping my garden alive.
I have a general rule with spiders: If they do their job and not bother me - I won't bother them. These guys are just...outgoing. 😳 And thank you! Unfortunately, we can't choose where the weight comes off - but I'm getting to see my cheekbones a lot more often. 😃
It's a current vogue how everyone is cutting fabric. I cringe every time I see the fabric folded and cut in odd angles. Everyone says it saves time..but it wastes more fabric and leads to uneven fabric cuts. (Rant over)
My thought on seeing your new dress with your hair down was: “What a strikingly beautiful woman!” The colour suits your natural colour! And it just is remarkably lovely! Bless you Maire!
D'aww...thank you! 😊
I was in Michaels with my 8 year old niece. We walked through the goth and white Halloween sections and then got to the pink fuzzy pumpkins. She looked at them and literally said "Pink Halloween! This is for me!" So there you go. Specifically made for my niece. 😁😋
Well there we go, then 😁
I hope she has a fantastic pink Hallowe'en!
I had a “I’m not appreciated, I’m not worthy, I shouldn’t be here” moment and threw all of my fabric and scraps out. Am in a much better headspace now and have just bought a t-shirt pattern to restart making my own clothes again, Go Maire!!!
Go YOU! You are definitely worthy of your own me-made wardrobe. I hope the t-shirt is the start of many. more sewing adventures 😃
The dress is absolutely lovely on you! And it looks wildly comfortable. Which is my only requirement for clothes. ❤❤❤
Oh, thank you 😃
Im glad to see a little goofy footage at the end! For the record, I think the colors dont look too spring. The turquoise is universal and the pinks in there are definitely summer pinks!
I'm a fan of goofy footage 😁
I need to dig out the swatch wallet(s) and check the seasons. At very least, dig out my Colour Me Beautiful book ...
you can find mint extract in the baking section of a grocery store, and check the tea section for mint tea.
Yet another project I'll be coppying off you. You find such lovely patterns.
Thank you! 😁
I love dresses for those ‘wildly outside my usual aesthetic’ fabrics - no need to try and figure out what other pieces are needed to turn it into an outfit.
And if you need a shirt to go underneath...choose a neutral and either dress it up or down 😁
I think that turned out really well, and it looks good on you! It also looks really comfortable, and I love a garment with practical pockets. The colors, at least in the lighting in this video, look like they work with your coloring, they don't wash you out or anything.
It IS really comfy! I'm really enjoying having more dresses for days when I don't have to do any kind of manual labour 😃
That dress is so pretty and summery. You look fantastic in it. I sew at my kitchen table and have a curious younger human and two cats to keep away from my pins. I'm glad it has a target demographic! 😁
Getting less shy showing your latest make. Big happy!

It helps having a good videographer who reminds me to smile. And be SASSY 😁
Thank you.
The HC patterns are really versatile...which has made me a very happy camper 😁

Just sayin’, it is super cute! The color is amazing on you and the comfy factor looks off the charts! Again, well done!
Thank you so much! 💕
Very cute. I like the teal color on you. The battle with the spiders continues at my house. Yesterday, one was brave enough to come across my cutting table.

(I can't say much. Mine are very active too...)

That dress is gorgeous. The colors really suit you. Another great project and I can't wait for more.

It's really cute. ❤
Thank you! 😃
I'm a little rusty at the WoW dances 🤣
Oh that dress is so cute💕 you look so good in it💕
Thank you! 💕
Very nice, you look great ❤
Thank you! 😃
I loooove those colours on you! Thank you for another fun video 😊❤
Thank you! 😊
Am following the archnid saga- good grief 😅 I feel for you, but you make me laugh 😂🖤🕸
Also - you look so beautiful and happy in the dress ❤🎉 I love it!!
Thank you! 😁💕
I love it!!!!
Like button booped.
Yay! Thank you!
Looks great!
Thank you! 😃
Love-x-3 the dress. It looks so comfortable, too. Currently too focused on spinning (Norwegian wool this time) to sew right now, but...maybe...in the future...?
OoooOo Spinning! I need to do more of that soon...
@@MaireColclough If only there were more hours in the day or fewer demands on our time!!!
Thanks for the reminder about the oils!
My solution is just to generally decorate as if it's Hallowe'en. Problem solved 😁
That's a great sundress, looks fantastic on you. I love that fabric, it's something that would fit in with my summer wardrobe, even if it does read more "spring" than "summer". P.S. have a family member who works at Michaels, shall have to share your review/commentary with them, I know they'll appreciate it.
Sorry! I meant Spring vs Summer in colour analysis rather than seasonal wear...look up Carole Jackson's "Color Me Beautiful" for more info 😃
And I hope I don't cause a ruckus by thinking the skeleton looked like it was reading on the loo

Whatever floats folks' boats, right? 😃
@@MaireColclough Definitely! It's supposed to be fun!
I use my scraps for baby and kids clothes. I don’t have children but my friends and family do. I made Chinese split pants for potty training I think those pants are on their 5th kid now
Children's clothing is always useful when you have family/friends with kids!
Question: Are you willing to share how you utilised the odd closet in the wall? (Totally not binge watching older episodes)
I'm trying to figure out which odd closet you're referring to....about what time in which video? More than happy to elaborate 😃
And thank you!
(Rant over)
Which method is that?
