The reason we love the “preppy “ style is because this trend was popular in our teenage years. It was a fun and carefree time in our lives. It evokes good memories.
I love it it because it can be well cut, have style clarity, good natural fabrics and suits me. And I am a bit ancient. Sloppy badly cut synthetics and most things are horrible on me. A nice camel hair jacket, good Italian loafers cashmere sweater etc and I am happy. Jcrew used to offer it until it lost market to H&M and Zara cheap clothes.
I only wear metallics in footwear and accessories, and I prefer gold over silver. I love my metallic gold shoes and small gold bag for evening, especially my Sezane gold Paula Babies (slingbacks with 2-inch heels, my idea of “high heels)”. When I travel, they are all I need to complete my evening outfits, with one of my simple silk dresses, my white cashmere wrap and some “gold” jewelry. Thanks for this great trend video, Alice. I look to you French ladies on how to wear trends in a classic way, without overdoing it.
Loving these trends and I agree with you, Alice. 'Quiet Luxury' has been around for decades and it's always been a big favourite of mine because of its clean lines and understated elegance. I would only wear the bow for hair, it looks so chic and feminine. Regarding metallics I'd also wear it only on footwear as an accent to pair with jewellery, I wouldn't buy any other major metallic piece since it may be too much (in my humble opinion) and it will be out of trend very soon anyway. I love following style principles like a Parisian/French Chic lady sticking to classic timeless pieces mainly while incorporating few modern elements to add interest. My top favourites are the classic ballet flats (loving the gold ones), and cardigans for their versatility and comfort to enjoy for years to come. Merci 💕🌸
This so relaxing to listen to fashion videos. The world out there is all wars, murdered journalists, inflation, border crisis, super power nations getting ready to throw down, it's too much. It's so nice to listen to something thats not horrible.
I love Gwyneth Paltrow in the 1998 film, Great Expectations: her icy blonde hair, red lipstick, " quiet luxury" all black art snob outfits, are perfection!
Yes, almost all green, but the scene I am thinking of, is specifically where she is having drinks with Fin, and her future husband, she is wearing this beautiful black top, with dark red lipstick: so fabulous.@@grithSP
I love cardigans if they’re short, at the longest, ending above the hipbones or, ideally, just covering the waistband. I wear them both closed as tops, sometimes with a silk scarf. Or as a second layer over a shirt or blouse. (When worn as tops, I wear a thin silk-jersey, long-sleeved tee underneath them. These protect the wool or cashmere from perspiration, skn oils and dead cells which attract moths, keeps them cleaner for longer, and eliminates or reduces the skin irritation I get). I always felt frumpy in big, long cardigans. Even around the house I feel dumpy and dowdy in them, so I don’t wear them. I like to feel I look good at home, too!
Hello , Christine, from a fellow Bostonian. You are right in saying that this classic way of dressing is in our blood. It’s not a trend for us, as we were brought up wearing n this style and taught to buy classic, quality clothing when we were young.
I absolutely love your videos. I admire your classy style and your ability to put your outfits together well and look great. Well done and I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Thank you x
When I was in high school and college, preppy was very popular. I had a very preppy style because it looked good on me and it felt comfortable and easy. I'm so glad preppy is coming back. I still have my Bass oxfords and tassel loafers and they are still in good condition to wear today. I also love the gold shoes (loafers, sling back and/or ballet flats). Gold and silver has a way of dressing up an outfit.
This was interesting. Thanks for the extensive links. A lot of this seems rather '90s, which is fine with me. I can pretty much do all this but always like to pick up a couple of new items. I especially love the black velvet pajamas with heels for evening. Thanks, Alice.
First ever holiday I had was in Nice 1999 and I bought black ballerina flats with laces and they are still one of my favourites. Been repairing them so much but they are still wearable. Going to Nice on Friday and maybe can find a new favourite piece
Hi lovely! Your videos are so inspiring & informative .. visiting paris for the first time this June . Would love to get some style tips for that time of the month. What kinda outfits / jackets & shoes to carry . That would be of greattt help😊
love love repetto. I need a pink pair of repetto. I will start blog so probably vlog my purchase. I own Chanel flats which I also love. they are also nice niche italian brands. I just discover a little brand in Paris called 'authentique shoes" paris 16 selling bicolor ballet flat. very affordable
Interesting for Paris, gold metallic pants with a Gucci Marmont belt. Also, bright metallic footwear. In 2022, I bought a short skirt, jean skirt style, in silver metallic and love it. Great fun. Whenever I wear it, I get lots of compliments. Real fur. Not thrilled about that one. I'm glad that kitten heels are back as I've worn them for decades. They're comfortable. As for ballet flats, I don't know how one can walk a lot in them as they have little to no support. When I'm in Paris, I'm either in knee boots in the cooler season or sneakers or various style footwear by Cydwoq in the warmer season to style with outfits. Greetings from Los Angeles
Ballet flats unfortunately are very bad for feet. I didn’t feel it before, but many hours of walking in them felt not good. Better stylish sneakers or low wide heel casual shoes. Can’t go wrong with that
Thanks for the tips!! I only disagree about 16eme being old money. I find people there more showy and vulgar than the rest of wealthy people in 3-8th arr
Oh Paris is LATE with the furs, slavs made it a big trend in october already, the winter is gone now. Also mary jane shoes and ballet shoes are huge right now and will be even bigger. Cardigans are big every year

Preppy is classic as well. 😊

I really like gold shoes and gold belt also. Bobbies offer also nice gold selection
Still sticking to quiet luxury ❤ timeless and classic

I know what you mean.
I still love a classic la valliere bow blouse, too. Definitely, hair bows❤
Oh yea!
Alice I love how you take your time to research these topics!!!! And all the clear explanations!!!!!
I love Gwyneth Paltrow in the 1998 film, Great Expectations: her icy blonde hair, red lipstick, " quiet luxury" all black art snob outfits, are perfection!
Every outfit she wore in the film was green - and I agree with you, that they would all be on point in 2024.
And in The Talented Mr Ripley
Yes, almost all green, but the scene I am thinking of, is specifically where she is having drinks with Fin, and her future husband, she is wearing this beautiful black top, with dark red lipstick: so fabulous.@@grithSP

Leave it to Miss Alice to show the beautiful wearable trends. Preppy style is in my blood as I'm from Boston, MA 🇺🇸💝

Alice, what do you think of the different brands of ballet flats? Chanel, Repetto, Mansur Gavriel, lolo ballerina, Porselli...etc...
love love repetto. I need a pink pair of repetto. I will start blog so probably vlog my purchase. I own Chanel flats which I also love. they are also nice niche italian brands. I just discover a little brand in Paris called 'authentique shoes" paris 16 selling bicolor ballet flat. very affordable

What were the mid range quiet luxury purse brands mentioned?
Ballet flats unfortunately are very bad for feet. I didn’t feel it before, but many hours of walking in them felt not good. Better stylish sneakers or low wide heel casual shoes. Can’t go wrong with that
Bows are so 90’s!
I got a bit confused, didn’t see much of a difference between quiet luxury and preppy on your looks. They look almost the same 😊
Hi Alice, what do you think about mini metallic bag as an accent to your outfit?
also great. Metallic leather belt is also nice
Thanks for the tips!! I only disagree about 16eme being old money. I find people there more showy and vulgar than the rest of wealthy people in 3-8th arr
I wouldn’t invest a lot In metallic clothing because this style is not going to last long. IMO
Is that classic Chanel bag now a uniform on the street of Paris?
always has been
❤❤❤❤❤
No ballet flats for me. Sold all of them, including my Chanels.
I now only wear Hogans, for comfort. It works if everything else is Parisian.
I wear only a pair of Moccasins which is a cross between a loafer and a ballerina. I had them made for me.
Quiet Luxury is an ancient way of LIFE. It is not to be labelled "trend"
❤
Fur should always be faux!
Hi. Great fun utube info. Can you talk slower love many fashion photos. That’s very helpful to be able to actually see the fashion
I am sad about the fur trend.
🥰
I noticed that you are wearing stirrup pants. Are they coming back in style.
yes sezane very trendy
Why do the French look down on tourists ?! You feel it every where, and it even shows in your videos!!
You don't look down. It is normal that tourists and Parisian don't look the same
votre site est intelligent.juste votre accent qui mériterait un petit effort🤭
You keep saying Persian it’s not Persian it’s Parisian You should correct that because Persian is old and historical name of Iran
Metallics, ummm no. I wear jewelry, so no to the pants.
