new players keep in mind, the more you explore maps during leveling, the less you'll have to do when you decide to go for map completion (legendary crafting). you can get to 50% more or less just by exploring while leveling
That is what I am doing with my Engineer. Mostly grabbing waypoints and points of interest, and only engaging with ongoing events along the way. Wasn't even aware there were experience boosting items that worked for pre-level 80 characters, those will be big help.
I do map completion as I level, each map I do, I don't leave until it's at 100%. But I'm in no hurry to level, other than to get to level 10 by using the tip I posted above, so that I have all my weapon abilities unlocked and other conveniences starting out. I enjoy exploring, and finding the small surprises and hidden quirks on the maps. Also, don't skip listening to NPC conversations in the background, sometimes they're hilarious, and there is also a lot of lore to be found. A number of the conversations tie in to the history and lore of the game.
I would say this is untrue i do think its good to do a few zones but its easyer to do with more mounts and faster once u get an elite spec even tho u get scaled down its still a little unbalanced
I came back to the game after like 6 or 7 years and having a mount at level 10 is the best thing that they could have ever done, honestly its super fun to go for map completion, I'm at level 63 and around 40% map completion
Just an extra tip: The level 80 boost that comes with an expansion also gets you a full exotic celestial gear. Which is very expensive for a new player. So it might be worth boosting just for that, if you just don't see yourself using that boost otherwise. I personally used it around level 30 when I leveled my first alt. ( I leveled to 30 to get used to the class.)
Also, the new achievements that were recently added to the game for new players give a TON of experience, nearly cutting the leveling grind in half. Its a little nutty.
here's one, when its Halloween go to the labyrinth you can gain massive amounts of levels from completing the trains. there are always groups in lfg for this, you are scaled up to level 80 BUT since your actual level isn't 80 you still gain xp and since the difference between level 1 and 80 is huge the amount of exp you get is also huge
I recently leveled my first character without using any boosts or having login rewards (no xpac). It wasn't painful at all, I was having a blast doing a few map completions and hit 80 while still on the level 60 story quest
I mean let's be serious, it's not SUPER hard to level in gw2 but with all the boosters and such it may be more viable for players to just zoom through it
Hi, my name is Thorrnn. I’m an altaholic. Currently I have a total of 44 characters, all but 10 of which are lvl 80. I leveled my first 5 characters the long way, because there were no lvl 80 boosts, then. Since HoT, I’ve boosted 2, but the rest I usually play through at least part of the personal story and core story. Then for probably a third or less I leveled them up through play and exploration, and then used tomes. Crafting is crazy fast but also fairly expensive, so I only leveled up crafting once for each discipline. .
my tip: get all the xp boosts as shown in this video and do all the waypoints in core tyria (and some stuff along the way..), thats enough to get lv80 on the orr maps. the waypoints are a must have for every active char and with enough xp boosters, getting them is already enough in gw2 to reach max lvl..
I dont know if this is an uncommon opinion but i personally love the levelling in GW2, it has that true mmorpg feeling. I am just in this huge world with very basic gear and weapons, I am not a hero or anything just trying to explore and get by. Its so fun to actually feel like you are exploring a world and learning lots about it without being stupidly overpowered and called the "Hero" every 5 seconds instead im helping some farmer collect eggs.
leveling in GW2 is easy. the point is, lv80 is not the end, but the beginning of your character's journey. so if you are new to the game, don't focus on leveling up asap, enjoy getting familiar with your class, with all the mechanics, learn the skills, learn dodging at the right moment, movement is very important, don't stay still
I have a toon that I levelled up solely by fishing. Got thrown into Queensdale, asked for help in the map chat for TP to friend to Crystal Oasis and was just straight up fishing for a couple days. I had a group of people who always fished there so we were just chatting and fishing. Made a lot of gold as well.
I ignore crafting till later levels where the added xp really helps on those longer xp lines. Except for cooking. Even at lower character levels, cooking can be advanced quickly and the xp is crazy.
12 max level characters. Wanted to add that the xp booster stacks per kill for an additional bonus as well. I use these and grind underwater mobs and average 8 times bonus XP per kill. Only downside is underwater combat can be a little funky.
i have like 55 max level characters right now that ive levelled through all kinds of ways and honestly the character adventure guide MASSIVELY speeds up levelling, it REALLY is worth doing that. very useful is the xp booster that gives you this boost that stacks up to 10 when you kill mobs. i used to go to maps that were less populated but relatively high level and farmed yellow mobs with that xp booster so i got a shit ton of bonus xp. probably not tthe most effective method but something i did a lot before we had the adventure guide. AND ive made it a habit to play through the story up until claw island (that should be lvl 60 story?) for good xp and up to three black lion keys. i generally really enjoy doing map comp so sometimes im just ignoring all boosters and speed levelling tips and just take it slow and explore the world as much as i can. only JUST getting all waypoints without boosters or anything should get you to about 65-70, so it really is worth just running around and exploring, i personally never get tired of exploring this world even after 8 years of playing and 60 characters in my roster :)
Yeah getting more character slots is addicting. First I had to have one for each race. Then each class. Ok one more for the weekly key farm. Now I’m at 13 going for one for each elite spec, but it probably won’t stop there lmao
Like you I have 56 right now and it is so easy to level up, because I have a stacks of Birthday Experience Scrolls my toons keep getting. I have nine level 50 & 60 scrolls in the bank with over 100 other level scrolls, and a stack of Experience Tomes I got from just from logging on or playing. Once you get a couple dozen toons it becomes effortless to make more toons if you can buy the character slots.
@@chrebetcrunch Joking aside, it is a rarity that games are like this. Refreshing to hear that GW2 hasn't changed much in the however many years it's been around.
Start by running around the starting cities and Lion's arch. You'll get levels fast even without boosts, and start your first zone with all your abilities unlocked and have a leg up on getting your hero points in place too. Quick travel to the PvP lobby and use the LA portals to get to each city, and it's all free. But I don't recommend power leveling unless you are already very familiar with the class. You really do need that time to learn the subtleties and tricks of playing that class to really enjoy it at max level. The expansion maps are not as forgiving as the core world.
I made a mix of tomes, crafting, gathering and xp boosters for alt leveling. 6 classes at level 80 atm. Peacefully and slowly on the 3 left in between masteries farming and various other random stuff.
1) Don't waste laurels or guild commendations on boosters or banners. You probably have boosters from logging in, doing stuff and other players will pop banners in social hubs, popular farms, or big event locations. It's less about your absolutely optimized XP boosting and more about what you're doing. 2) Once you've hit lvl 35 Don't forget HARATHI HINTERLANDS! The entire NorthEast portion of the map has a 'psuedo-meta' that cycles with decent regularity. Great for kill XP. Anybody from lvl 35-60 can get serious value there. Also, doesn't feel too grindy. 3) Don't forget festivals, especially Halloween's "Mad King Labyrinth" which can farm insane kill XP practically at any level. 4) Jumping to HoT early is one of the best sources of XP but you're going to have to be tricky and clever at getting around. You won't be soloing anything. You're going to follow other people around and merely 'tag' HP champs with your wet noodle as best as you can. lvl70 onward is fine. lvl 60 is doable but tricky, anything before is really pushing it. This method is absolutely viable however, especially once you've learned your way around the maps. (If you do this, once you hit lvl80, you may already have a ton of HPs to unlock an elite immediately.) 5) BE PATIENT. After your first, you can level the rest of your toons solely using tomes, especially if you wvw, tomes drop by the boatload. I think even on my main account I only ever leveled 2 toons the old fashioned way. The rest were largely tomes AND - Don't forget leveling SCROLLs which drop on birthdays. Something to consider: Birthday rewards might be worth rolling a few toons right at the start, even if you park most of them. Also something to consider: Birthday rewards are not tied to daily log ins.
That last point is absolutely one of the most important, literally just being patient as you play the game makes the leveling process significantly easier
Also, there is many veteran that bored and stay on starting map or just make helping the new player as their daily routine just to give new players warm welcome, just shout out on map chat for help and there is huge chance you will get help by them, they will guide you and you can ask anything about the game, you will get ton of fun and ton of knowledge for playing for short periods of time
I don't know about getting to HoT metas, but when I started out my friend carted me around to triple trouble and tequatl. I actually managed to get the tequal's hoard box as a level 30 something.
Let me just add for any it might assist Assuming you either dont have any Tomes, or wish to save them for some reason, i have a levelling method that isnt super fast, BUT you can be binge-watching some tv show while you do it At some point your new chaaracter will want WPs unlocked in various zones, so from the start just travel around the zones doing everything except Hearts, if you have a Flyer, especially a griffon, this can be done incredibly fast You fly through any POI, any WP and you stop for any HP, all these give you Exp When youre done with one zone move to the next, youll be 80 long before you have done even half the Tyria Core zones, especially if you try and do each starter zone, then each secondary and so on So maybe just pick a few zones that you like, or know oylul need unlocked for later (Gendarin Fields for Ley-line Bosses etc, other zones that have WBs in them etc) The only annoying part is, once youre 80, there will inevitably still be some zones youll need to go unlock Hopefully your main bought all the LW teleport scrolls and placed them in books, which you can use from Shared Inv if you have it, or by trading them through your bank if you dont Keep in mind Map Completion too, if you plan to do it on multiple toons, but this method really just means going back for any zone you missed, and doing the Hearts Of course you could do the Hearts as you go along but it will take you about twice as long However you level, and however you play keep in mind one thing - Its a GAME and its meant to be ENJOYED, if any of it at all feels like a GRIND, then you are doing it WRONG 😀☮&❤
I used to do SW from lvl 60 with ranged (so you don't get 1 shot), just tag all camps, tag all champs at the end, not only is it good xp but a lot more fun too (you would want to have crit chance on all your gear to actually land some dmg). Someone with a turtle can also port you to all waypoints over the entire world, only the different maps he has to run you through the portals after which you mount back up, and then he can just spam all waypoints in that map with you in the turtle
I currently have 8 max level characters, one of each profession, besides Elementalist. I plan to acquire 2 more (1 Elementalist + 1 extra Engineer) once the character slot discount goes live.
I've used the maguuma teleport scroll before hitting level 80 just cus and it's frustrating. You'll want to buddy up with someone with the turtle and hijack the back seat for yourself to stay alive long enough to get experience and enjoy doing events.
Btw if anyone here is currently looking to level !!! I recommend cooking skills this will get u around 20 levels + you can do these 3 maps with boosters and it should get u to 80 :) - Lonars Pass/ Norn starting zone / caldean Forest / and if u need one more map i find a easy map is queensdale
Been playing for just over 5 yrs. 25 max lvl characters. Idk I get bored and don't have much to do so I make new characters a lot. In the process of making all 9 classes Charr with similar names and full map comp.
9 leveled, only 2 or 3 "by playing", the rest have been though the L80 boost (from buying the expansions) or tomes of knowledge but now I'm working on a few more toons, and I need to level them and I'm out of tomes LOL also, PSA: if you have access to arborstone and the relevant masteries, you can travel there with low-level toons from a portal in LA, and get the well-rested buff for an extra 25% exp boost.
Not exactly the same, but i did Octovine when helping my wife level her first toon. We were in the same party, and i left her in her story area while i did the event. Upon completing, SHE GOT THE XP AND CHESTS as well as me. She jumped, like, 4 levels haha. We havent been able to replicate that since, but somehow she ended up getting participation without even coming to the map.

i also have 9 max characters, but when i finish exploration with all of them, i will start a new one that i will delete once the world is completed so i can keep farming gifts of exploration but that is really far from now.
got 36 maxed characters xD and 9 I'm currently leveling. Started to do WvW to support my alt addiction xD I basically use xp booster and run around killing and gathering anything I come across, then every two hrs theres the Octovine meta in Auric Basin that I use to get 3-5levels each time, plus a bunch of loot. Doing just those two things I can levvel 1-80 in about 10-14hrs
Holy crap that is alot of characters. The xp booster is probably the best thing you can do in any case, honestly i try to incorporate one for every character I level
Just leveled up a mesmer. Got any birthday boosters in your bank? 100% xp, gold find, magic find etc. And they last for 24 hours (1 day). Nice thing is that the booster only counts down when you are playing. I had 14 boosters in my bank-still have 13 after hitting level 80. I also do world bosses from WB portal (purchased through gem store). Worth the cost as I use it every day for Dragonstorm event (guaranteed 2 Gold and possible ascended weapons!). A leveling toon gets crazy amount of xp doing the world bosses. Level 15 bosses and on up!
Crafting to level up is amazing and super fast, specially cooking, coz the mats as cheap and it is very simple to do. I leveled up like 10 characters doing this method. Level boost first, play some maps, specially norn starting mapsz until around 40-50, craft until tomes of knowledge. You milage may vary depending on your boosters, tomes of knowledge, and available mats or gold

Very useful video. Because it's an end-game method, unfortunately it takes a bit of preparation (and gold). I've already tried to do something like this, but I confess that there comes a time when it gets a little frustrating (at least, it was like that with me both times I tried). So I tried to think of a more "low-effort" way. It may not be super fast, but it works and you can play while having a coffee and watching a series... lol... Basically, I tried to get all the boosters that give passive experience (without having to fight), and I used the Blish addon with the world completion function (it literally draws a path on the ground and you just have to follow it, like TACO). Also, using the mounts, I determined that I would only do HP (some need to fight, but generally not that difficult in the core game), WP, points of interest and Vistas (I ignored the Hearts). Playing 2-3 hours a day for 3-4 days I managed to reach level 80. It might not be the fastest way, but it sure is the easiest after thomes and instant boosters.
Honestly the ease of use leveling i think is incredibly important. I'm the kind of start and stop mentality, if I start grinding something I want to finish it asap... I'm a bit weird however
I got 11 lvl 80s and about to do 1 more these days. For leveling back in the days before tome and writs of experience my thing was to get my low level chars in festivals like the Pavillion and crafting. Not sure now but then one run to 400 gave 7 to 8 levels.
You asked: Main account 50 level 80 toons (4 Elementalist, 7 Engineer, 5 Guardian, 5 Mesmer, 6 Necro, 6 Ranger, 6 Revenant, 7 Thief, & 4 Warrior), Secondary Account has 6 level 80 toons (Engineer, Mesmer, Thief, Warrior, Necro, & Ranger), plus one empty character slot with a "Level 80 - Boost" my grandson hasn't decided on yet. The only reason I have a secondary account is because my young grandson always saw me playing and he wanted to play too, which ended up being about 1 hour a week when he is at my house. I normally have 45 or so toons sitting at chest and have clocked in over 8000 hour on main account and 500 on secondary. No my wife says I do not have a life. :)
Step 1: Open bank. Step 2: Grab one of several dozen level 60 scrolls. Step 3: Grab twenty of something hundred knowledge tomes. Step 4: Profit! Honestly, though. I'ma have some free time in April and I'm thinking of just clearing areas to level 1-80. It's been almost a decade since I've had a good crack at the central tyria zones.
It’s just that my character looks boring all the time with that chainmail armor set I get every time I do something it looks so boring compared to other players and the fact that all not better looking but jus different looking armor set (ie not scalemail style anymore) require a lot of leveling
@@CaffeinatedDad no but you can tp to friend the alt to rest there and get the wp. you can also get there by running from the guild hall to arborstone. also the heart can be easily done just by painting and doing simple mechanics
Powerful Potions of Slaying Scarlet's Army give a 15% XP boost instead of the usual 10%. They also last one hour, not 30 min but are way more expensive. Also, "Aschura" xD Never heard someone pronounce Asura like that. But maybe it's even correct and I don't know anything :)
So you are doing the level 20 story buts lowering you to 13? I would suggest to see what level gear your items are. If they are lower than I'd say 5-7 levels you maybe should purchase some gear form the trading post!
the whole "see the world" thing sounds valid but... I'm a new player, been playing Jan 3rd. Im 71. I have done everything in my city and the next two areas. I am nearly done with my personal story (first part, before the expansions and all that). So quite honestly, I've seen virtually nothing and I'll be 80 in a couple hours.
i level my alts by crafting making my t1 to t2s lol and then if i cant level my crafting im changing crafting discipline, i usually get 50 levels then the last 30 i just run dungeons, it take me 3 hours to go from lvl 1 to 80
Going to disagree with a lot of commenters here about not speed running levelling to learn a class. Its true you should enjoy the story the first time around, but some classes just dont show their playstyle until 80. For the longert time I slept on Ele, Mesmer and Revenant, simply because they felt frustrating to play in early levels. Ele in particular is no fun at all with the attunements locked out- thats basically the whole class mechanic missing, and spamming dagger auto attack gets old very quickly. Revenant is a class just built around the herald elite spec, and despite updates to make the core viable after launch it wil still feel like lots is missing from the class. On the flip side, Thief, warrior etc. ave their core gimicks right from the start (burst skills, steal, initiative etc.), so you'll get a good feel for how the class plays from lvl 10 onwards. So... unless you have the story to distract you, dont feel guilty about wanting to max level your character. The whole point of ele is the 56 step rotation (and being in downstate), and you really need to be higher level to get there.
Hey guys, im a new player currently level 47. Today i got an email saying the Fractal Rush event is going on. So i asked here and there and zoned to volcanic tier1 myself and it seems i could almost solo mobs there if they were more spread out or with a group. My question is do u think its worth it to jump into tier one fractals with a group and grind some xp, gold, etc? So far ive been doing only world progression, quests and event and im actually dying to check out the dungeon/fractal content. Peace
I just don't care about pve or exploring or questing, that wasting time stuff is like Chinese torture for me. I just want to pvp but I'm new to gw2, I used to play ESO but it's too unbalanced. Do you recommend this method if I don't care about the story or pve aspect of the game? would that affect pvp?

I'm kinda mad that it is faster to level to 80 in GW2 now, 'cause I used to do a story chapter, and then explore one map or two, and then next chapter. Now I'm overleveled in the story and I don't even have the maps unlocked to travel to the story zone. Now I might reroll my main, do all map completion all at once, and the do all the story all at once. Would you recommend that ?

Do you think Guild Wars 3 means a hard reset for everyone? My biggest deterrence from playing Guild Wars 2 is knowing my character will mean nothing in the future.
I don't believe so. I don't know if arenanet had the power/resources to hard reset and create a Guild Wars 3. If they do, then I'd be incredibly surprised

@user-ch8mx1vz9u for an experienced player, or an alt, sure. But my mates, when they've tried the game, have taken 30+ hours, are still not level 80 and complain about how slow and repetitive doing heart after heart after heart is, then quit the game.

But unless someone drops a ascended platter, you can’t eat sushi for 150 fishing buff till level 45, and believe me, you want that buff!

i generally really enjoy doing map comp so sometimes im just ignoring all boosters and speed levelling tips and just take it slow and explore the world as much as i can. only JUST getting all waypoints without boosters or anything should get you to about 65-70, so it really is worth just running around and exploring, i personally never get tired of exploring this world even after 8 years of playing and 60 characters in my roster :)

Yeah getting more character slots is addicting. First I had to have one for each race. Then each class. Ok one more for the weekly key farm. Now I’m at 13 going for one for each elite spec, but it probably won’t stop there lmao
Like you I have 56 right now and it is so easy to level up, because I have a stacks of Birthday Experience Scrolls my toons keep getting. I have nine level 50 & 60 scrolls in the bank with over 100 other level scrolls, and a stack of Experience Tomes I got from just from logging on or playing. Once you get a couple dozen toons it becomes effortless to make more toons if you can buy the character slots.

As a caffeinated dad myself, I can't commit so much time to playing. Thank you for these videos. Easy sub.
Start by running around the starting cities and Lion's arch. You'll get levels fast even without boosts, and start your first zone with all your abilities unlocked and have a leg up on getting your hero points in place too. Quick travel to the PvP lobby and use the LA portals to get to each city, and it's all free.
But I don't recommend power leveling unless you are already very familiar with the class. You really do need that time to learn the subtleties and tricks of playing that class to really enjoy it at max level. The expansion maps are not as forgiving as the core world.
The cities offer a lot more exp then I think I would have ever thought!
I made a mix of tomes, crafting, gathering and xp boosters for alt leveling. 6 classes at level 80 atm. Peacefully and slowly on the 3 left in between masteries farming and various other random stuff.
I feel like there is no one right way to do it, I pick at it when I have time and I think that it works incredibly well!
1) Don't waste laurels or guild commendations on boosters or banners. You probably have boosters from logging in, doing stuff and other players will pop banners in social hubs, popular farms, or big event locations. It's less about your absolutely optimized XP boosting and more about what you're doing.
2) Once you've hit lvl 35 Don't forget HARATHI HINTERLANDS! The entire NorthEast portion of the map has a 'psuedo-meta' that cycles with decent regularity. Great for kill XP. Anybody from lvl 35-60 can get serious value there. Also, doesn't feel too grindy.
3) Don't forget festivals, especially Halloween's "Mad King Labyrinth" which can farm insane kill XP practically at any level.
4) Jumping to HoT early is one of the best sources of XP but you're going to have to be tricky and clever at getting around. You won't be soloing anything. You're going to follow other people around and merely 'tag' HP champs with your wet noodle as best as you can. lvl70 onward is fine. lvl 60 is doable but tricky, anything before is really pushing it. This method is absolutely viable however, especially once you've learned your way around the maps. (If you do this, once you hit lvl80, you may already have a ton of HPs to unlock an elite immediately.)
5) BE PATIENT. After your first, you can level the rest of your toons solely using tomes, especially if you wvw, tomes drop by the boatload. I think even on my main account I only ever leveled 2 toons the old fashioned way. The rest were largely tomes AND - Don't forget leveling SCROLLs which drop on birthdays. Something to consider: Birthday rewards might be worth rolling a few toons right at the start, even if you park most of them. Also something to consider: Birthday rewards are not tied to daily log ins.
That last point is absolutely one of the most important, literally just being patient as you play the game makes the leveling process significantly easier
Also, there is many veteran that bored and stay on starting map or just make helping the new player as their daily routine just to give new players warm welcome, just shout out on map chat for help and there is huge chance you will get help by them, they will guide you and you can ask anything about the game, you will get ton of fun and ton of knowledge for playing for short periods of time

I don't know about getting to HoT metas, but when I started out my friend carted me around to triple trouble and tequatl. I actually managed to get the tequal's hoard box as a level 30 something.

Let me just add for any it might assist
Assuming you either dont have any Tomes, or wish to save them for some reason, i have a levelling method that isnt super fast, BUT you can be binge-watching some tv show while you do it
At some point your new chaaracter will want WPs unlocked in various zones, so from the start just travel around the zones doing everything except Hearts, if you have a Flyer, especially a griffon, this can be done incredibly fast
You fly through any POI, any WP and you stop for any HP, all these give you Exp
When youre done with one zone move to the next, youll be 80 long before you have done even half the Tyria Core zones, especially if you try and do each starter zone, then each secondary and so on
So maybe just pick a few zones that you like, or know oylul need unlocked for later (Gendarin Fields for Ley-line Bosses etc, other zones that have WBs in them etc)
The only annoying part is, once youre 80, there will inevitably still be some zones youll need to go unlock
Hopefully your main bought all the LW teleport scrolls and placed them in books, which you can use from Shared Inv if you have it, or by trading them through your bank if you dont
Keep in mind Map Completion too, if you plan to do it on multiple toons, but this method really just means going back for any zone you missed, and doing the Hearts
Of course you could do the Hearts as you go along but it will take you about twice as long
However you level, and however you play keep in mind one thing - Its a GAME and its meant to be ENJOYED, if any of it at all feels like a GRIND, then you are doing it WRONG 😀☮&❤
I used to do SW from lvl 60 with ranged (so you don't get 1 shot), just tag all camps, tag all champs at the end, not only is it good xp but a lot more fun too (you would want to have crit chance on all your gear to actually land some dmg). Someone with a turtle can also port you to all waypoints over the entire world, only the different maps he has to run you through the portals after which you mount back up, and then he can just spam all waypoints in that map with you in the turtle
I've seen a few people mention this and that's pretty cool to speed run at least!
Dont spend laurels on exp bonus tho as you can purchase your first ascended pieces if you have saved up only 40 even.
I currently have 8 max level characters, one of each profession, besides Elementalist. I plan to acquire 2 more (1 Elementalist + 1 extra Engineer) once the character slot discount goes live.
I expect that type of sale to be live here soon!
I've used the maguuma teleport scroll before hitting level 80 just cus and it's frustrating. You'll want to buddy up with someone with the turtle and hijack the back seat for yourself to stay alive long enough to get experience and enjoy doing events.

Btw if anyone here is currently looking to level !!! I recommend cooking skills this will get u around 20 levels + you can do these 3 maps with boosters and it should get u to 80 :) - Lonars Pass/ Norn starting zone / caldean Forest / and if u need one more map i find a easy map is queensdale
Been playing for just over 5 yrs. 25 max lvl characters. Idk I get bored and don't have much to do so I make new characters a lot. In the process of making all 9 classes Charr with similar names and full map comp.

9 leveled, only 2 or 3 "by playing", the rest have been though the L80 boost (from buying the expansions) or tomes of knowledge
but now I'm working on a few more toons, and I need to level them and I'm out of tomes LOL
also, PSA: if you have access to arborstone and the relevant masteries, you can travel there with low-level toons from a portal in LA, and get the well-rested buff for an extra 25% exp boost.
Oh absolutely! But that also requires progress into eod zones and story!
Not exactly the same, but i did Octovine when helping my wife level her first toon. We were in the same party, and i left her in her story area while i did the event. Upon completing, SHE GOT THE XP AND CHESTS as well as me. She jumped, like, 4 levels haha. We havent been able to replicate that since, but somehow she ended up getting participation without even coming to the map.

i also have 9 max characters, but when i finish exploration with all of them, i will start a new one that i will delete once the world is completed so i can keep farming gifts of exploration but that is really far from now.

got 36 maxed characters xD and 9 I'm currently leveling. Started to do WvW to support my alt addiction xD
I basically use xp booster and run around killing and gathering anything I come across, then every two hrs theres the Octovine meta in Auric Basin that I use to get 3-5levels each time, plus a bunch of loot. Doing just those two things I can levvel 1-80 in about 10-14hrs
Holy crap that is alot of characters. The xp booster is probably the best thing you can do in any case, honestly i try to incorporate one for every character I level
Just leveled up a mesmer. Got any birthday boosters in your bank? 100% xp, gold find, magic find etc. And they last for 24 hours (1 day). Nice thing is that the booster only counts down when you are playing. I had 14 boosters in my bank-still have 13 after hitting level 80. I also do world bosses from WB portal (purchased through gem store). Worth the cost as I use it every day for Dragonstorm event (guaranteed 2 Gold and possible ascended weapons!). A leveling toon gets crazy amount of xp doing the world bosses. Level 15 bosses and on up!

Crafting to level up is amazing and super fast, specially cooking, coz the mats as cheap and it is very simple to do.
I leveled up like 10 characters doing this method.
Level boost first, play some maps, specially norn starting mapsz until around 40-50, craft until tomes of knowledge.
You milage may vary depending on your boosters, tomes of knowledge, and available mats or gold
I've gotten. Alot of comments about how to level faster with crafting but I personally am not a fan!
@@CaffeinatedDad oh yeah, the traditional way of leveling is morre engaging for sure, i like crafting to level up coz it is faster. I hate leveling up, in any game, worst thing ever imo, so i do everything i can to speed up the process
You can also do dungeons explorable modes and swap out to a lowbie right at the end die mass exp.
Or if you can get a group to carry you through it.

Because it's an end-game method, unfortunately it takes a bit of preparation (and gold). I've already tried to do something like this, but I confess that there comes a time when it gets a little frustrating (at least, it was like that with me both times I tried).
So I tried to think of a more "low-effort" way. It may not be super fast, but it works and you can play while having a coffee and watching a series... lol... Basically, I tried to get all the boosters that give passive experience (without having to fight), and I used the Blish addon with the world completion function (it literally draws a path on the ground and you just have to follow it, like TACO). Also, using the mounts, I determined that I would only do HP (some need to fight, but generally not that difficult in the core game), WP, points of interest and Vistas (I ignored the Hearts). Playing 2-3 hours a day for 3-4 days I managed to reach level 80. It might not be the fastest way, but it sure is the easiest after thomes and instant boosters.
Honestly the ease of use leveling i think is incredibly important. I'm the kind of start and stop mentality, if I start grinding something I want to finish it asap... I'm a bit weird however
I got 11 lvl 80s and about to do 1 more these days.
For leveling back in the days before tome and writs of experience my thing was to get my low level chars in festivals like the Pavillion and crafting. Not sure now but then one run to 400 gave 7 to 8 levels.
I was unaware of that for crafting! There's quite a few ways that you can unlock these and have them stack up fast
You asked: Main account 50 level 80 toons (4 Elementalist, 7 Engineer, 5 Guardian, 5 Mesmer, 6 Necro, 6 Ranger, 6 Revenant, 7 Thief, & 4 Warrior), Secondary Account has 6 level 80 toons (Engineer, Mesmer, Thief, Warrior, Necro, & Ranger), plus one empty character slot with a "Level 80 - Boost" my grandson hasn't decided on yet. The only reason I have a secondary account is because my young grandson always saw me playing and he wanted to play too, which ended up being about 1 hour a week when he is at my house. I normally have 45 or so toons sitting at chest and have clocked in over 8000 hour on main account and 500 on secondary. No my wife says I do not have a life. :)

It’s just that my character looks boring all the time with that chainmail armor set I get every time I do something it looks so boring compared to other players and the fact that all not better looking but jus different looking armor set (ie not scalemail style anymore) require a lot of leveling
Yeah the more interesting gear requires time and grinds usually to unlock them compared to the baseline gear we get
You forgot arborstone rest buff and the seitung province training area heart completion buff and writ from the vendor
Is the arborstone transferable? Meaning if you have a level 80s there and resting does that buff transfer over to the alt your leveling?

So you are doing the level 20 story buts lowering you to 13? I would suggest to see what level gear your items are. If they are lower than I'd say 5-7 levels you maybe should purchase some gear form the trading post!

the whole "see the world" thing sounds valid but... I'm a new player, been playing Jan 3rd. Im 71. I have done everything in my city and the next two areas. I am nearly done with my personal story (first part, before the expansions and all that). So quite honestly, I've seen virtually nothing and I'll be 80 in a couple hours.
i level my alts by crafting making my t1 to t2s lol and then if i cant level my crafting im changing crafting discipline, i usually get 50 levels then the last 30 i just run dungeons, it take me 3 hours to go from lvl 1 to 80
I've heard so many people suggest using crafting as a leveling source but I am always bored of it or I don't feel it is as fast!

Going to disagree with a lot of commenters here about not speed running levelling to learn a class. Its true you should enjoy the story the first time around, but some classes just dont show their playstyle until 80.
For the longert time I slept on Ele, Mesmer and Revenant, simply because they felt frustrating to play in early levels. Ele in particular is no fun at all with the attunements locked out- thats basically the whole class mechanic missing, and spamming dagger auto attack gets old very quickly.
Revenant is a class just built around the herald elite spec, and despite updates to make the core viable after launch it wil still feel like lots is missing from the class.
On the flip side, Thief, warrior etc. ave their core gimicks right from the start (burst skills, steal, initiative etc.), so you'll get a good feel for how the class plays from lvl 10 onwards.
So... unless you have the story to distract you, dont feel guilty about wanting to max level your character. The whole point of ele is the 56 step rotation (and being in downstate), and you really need to be higher level to get there.

Hey guys, im a new player currently level 47. Today i got an email saying the Fractal Rush event is going on. So i asked here and there and zoned to volcanic tier1 myself and it seems i could almost solo mobs there if they were more spread out or with a group. My question is do u think its worth it to jump into tier one fractals with a group and grind some xp, gold, etc? So far ive been doing only world progression, quests and event and im actually dying to check out the dungeon/fractal content. Peace

Awesome video, still good to watch this even after years and years of playing the game. I'm kinda mad that it is faster to level to 80 in GW2 now, 'cause I used to do a story chapter, and then explore one map or two, and then next chapter. Now I'm overleveled in the story and I don't even have the maps unlocked to travel to the story zone. Now I might reroll my main, do all map completion all at once, and the do all the story all at once. Would you recommend that ?
You do know you can go through consecutive maps while over their level, right?
Just run through the zones till you get to the right one for the story.

You're level 2 after the tutorial. So 78 tomes should be sufficient.
