- After slogging through the entirety of 80 levels you are now left with what you should do first. In this example I cover what I would do first as a new player in Guild Wars 2. This somewhat side steps the story and focuses on account unlocks and other features as priority.

I'm late to the game here, but as someone who bowed out of GW2 back in HoT and came back with SotO, I 100% recommend the "jump straight to SoTO, do that story, unlock the Skyscale" approach. I don't feel like the spoilers included in SotO thus far are all that notable (certainly nothing worse than literally naming an expansion End of Dragons anyway), and the Skyscale is incredibly useful. This is especially true if you find the extreme verticality of HoT intimidating as the Skyscale gives you more grace than the glider alone will.

I started GW2 3 months ago. I started with a level 80 boost and got lost right away. As caffeinateddad recommends, start with Path of Fire! I unlocked most of the mounts and I jumped into Soto and I got my skyscale within 2 weeks of starting the game as a completely new player. Skyscale is a game changer and it makes exploring so much more enjoyable. HoT should be for experienced players.

Great Video! always enjoy your content! Another thing I love about the Griffon (and maybe skyscale, don't have it yet) is that you can mount in air, kind of like gliding you can free fall and mount at the last moment.
Checked out your video to see if you recomend the same things to new players as i do and if there was something extra i could be teaching my guildies. 0:20 These are the most important two sentences in the video. That being said, I mostly agree with what's being said. Some notes:
Exotic gear is good for practically every activity in the game. Higher level Fractals is literally the only place where you need Ascended gear because of Agony Resistance that you can only put on Ascended or Legendary equipment.
The Jackal unlocks for 20 gold after you complete the heart task in that area on the day of purchasing the mount, it's only 30 gold if you don't do that. You save 10g by running around there on a rented Jackal for five minutes.
About gliding. Personally, I would go further with the mastery track and unlock Advanced Gliding, too, as that allows you to stay in air indefinitely, especially with updrafts around. At that point, only leaning forward (speed boost) will cost endurance, which will regenerate when gliding normally. This can get you pretty much everywhere until you get a flying mount, as unlocking those are much more involved than filling up an XP bar, even if it's millions of XP.
Hero points. There are enough of those across the Expansions that don't require you to fight anything that will get you to fully unlock your first Elite Spec, but that may require progressing some story to get access to certain maps. HoT maps have like 20 of those, and you can run to most of them with Glider Basics, for example. The fastest way, though, is indeed a HP train you can frequently find in LFG, usually starting in Heart of Thorns.

Great info as always, thank you for your time and insight. I have been playing on and off for quite some time, honestly still way behind most others who've playing this long, took a long break right before the last major expansion due to some RL events needing my personal attention and just came back, lots to catch up on. Playing solo gets a little dry after awhile, need to socialize a bit more i guess, but I am enjoying the game, have all the expansions, and in a good guild CDG. :)

I totally agree ... but I would do gliding first! Simple gliding, no masteries, they can wait until you have the mounts. You don´t need to do anything but once enter an EoD map and it is unlocked. You do not need to be level 80, you can do it at the very beginning and than forget about it. I was teleported to the chest at the end of the kaineng jumping puzzle and I didn´t even realize I had unlocked it ... but it helped me a LOT!
Awesome video, just something to add. There's another way to auto loot, and that's in the options. It's right underneath the autolooting box, where it asks if you want to pick up all the loot. You don't have to be on it just around it and just click away. In fact I don't even wait for the message to pop up, I just hit my"F" key and that's it.👍
This is such an awesome guide as I just came back to the game after being gone for about 8 years, give or take.

Wizzard's vault adds another option to gear for free ( you gotta do stuff to get the currency though). Each big reset (the one at 3 months or so) gives 3 ascended armor chests and 1 ascended weapon chest, as well as the legendary weapon starter kit. These make gearing faster and cheaper. Do keep in mind that legendary crafting takes a long time and not all beginners will do it. So, go for the free ascended and add in exotics to fill the gap until the next big reset on the vault. Leveling the crafting professions can be tedious and expensive, so the vault option can save a lot of gold. The cost for the ascended chests are: 400 astral coins for the armor, 600 for the weapon. Total cost 1800 astral coins over the course of 3 months and up.
Can't recommend enough the "Tanetris/So You Want To Gear a Character" off the wiki enough. It's a lot of information but it's really helped me out in figuring out the endgame of gw2 starting points.
I really like your videos... just a few ... well... "few" 😂 thoughts.
As for a good starter class I would recomment the ranger... it has good close and ranged combat value in core stats.
You need raptor 3 to get the heart vendor for the springer... without raptor 3 there will not be a heart there.
The glider is a easy get by just going to an eod map i think... yes... but going there as a new acc will take more time then just unlocking it by doing the start of HoT ... however... if you are in a guild with the EoD GH you can get into Seitung by just a little walking and swimming... and at that point not having and glider mastery ain't a bad thing and not to compare with not getting a mount without having 3rd mastery of another mount.
There are HPs in verdant brink that are just touchy touchy HPs... gliding there and use wp back because you need mastery for the way back... in Auric Basin there are a few without fighting too... but harder to get to without mount or mastery... one easy to get to is... for a simple build hard to achiev because you need to Service the bacon of slow death😂... but there are usually a few helpful ppl there who can help you with their jackal... Tangled should be left to the future... though one HP there is a clean easy kill during the chak meta... Just go to ogre lane and usually a few ppl join in the fight... getting to that meta starter wp is a clean portal to friend use... now... dragon's stand ... 4 HPs are out of limit outside of meta... but that particular meta is imho at least one of the best and enjoyable one... takes time though... the rest is just avoid the enemy and you're good to touchy touch...
I think EoD is mostly guarded by elite ranks... getting there is a matter
of mount use...
Like the video but I have few comments. Quick run down of my POV; I've recently comeback to GW2 (barely played since launch), I've just purchased the first 3 expansions. After levelin a fresh character from 1 to 80 (to put me on track story wise). I've barely hit the last regions that I was 80 and I had like 8 Gold. For gearing, visiting the Trading Post was kinda out of the question (aka too expensive). I've never heard of laurels (or didn't remember). As a new/returning player the amounts of currency is way overwhelming.

Not sure when they introduced it but you can now get real cheap lvl 80 exotic gear with choosable stats from pvp vendors. Bit of honor and some silver and thats for all slots, armour, rings, accessorys and even aqua gear and weapons, alongside the already known but very often not talked about 20 slot siege bag that holds consumables, only one i know of in the game and the 20 slot normal bag from pvp vendors.

Autoloot is amazing! Get it unlocked! Once you get it done on one character it's account wide. I cannot stress what a QoL this Mastery is. Those bags will fill themselves.
I do have to bust out those masteries for the auto loot not gonna lie

I recently started playing this game after a very long time (played it in betas and for about 6 months) anyway I absolutely love playing the hammer catalyst but it is so squishy. What can I do to improve it and not loose too much power?
Celestial gear does wonders for Hammer catalyst, you could also perhaps run a more defensive e skill setup with an earth elemental or two for tanking if your against a particularly difficult mob

I finally decided to get Advanced Logistics when I finished SoTo story, now I dont have to mash F button to loot everytime I play..
I would like to point out that you can go to WvW and buy gear select exotics cheaper than you can find gear on the TP. Good Luck.

it's easy, has a collection attached to it, and is expensive. I believe MuklukTH-cam has a griffon guide.
You need path of fire and 250 gold, instead I recommend the sky scale which is much more versatile and cheaper with the secrets of the solar obscure expansion
Finish PoF story line, then you can unlock the collection achievements. And it costs a flat 250 gold and some running around, completing collections and other tasks. Skyscale is cheaper in Season 4, even cheaper in SotO, but the unlock process is (much) more involved.
every time i hit level 80 on a character, they become parking toons at chests and rich nodes 😂
nobody mentioning that u cant use trading post without buying an expansion... core game very limited as no mail no trading etc etc etc...

(I bought the first 2 expansions for now, bc 100 euro is a lot of money) To be fair, I just have a lot of time, but I dinged 80 today and when I wanna use the trading post thing I will get the notice of: "your account is to new to use it, come back in 2 days" Idk if that is playtime or just time in general, but might be worth to keep in mind. :D

I'm a little bit annoyed by the fact, that literally anyone except maybe 2% of the player base runs either pure power/condition damage dps builds practically everywhere.
Especially in open world lvl 80 content.
They delete everything most of the time before you can even get to the objective to contribute to it.
This, and the fact that basically everyone seems to have the flying dragon mount to just zip through the whole map while I have to use other, much slower mounts to even get somewhere gives me extreme FOMO.
I just can't keep up with anyone.
And most people also have at last full ascended gear, without the need to "buy" different gear, which gives especially crafters the incentive to make materials extremely expensive, while they themselves swim in gold.
This wouldn't bother me at all, if the rewards you get for doing anything wouldn't be so abysmal bad and spread around two bazillion types of ressources which you need to stack in the thousands to craft something useful.
And don't get me started on crafting itself.
You need to craft thousands of junk items and destroy it afterwards for other materials...
I can't play 24/7 to progress.
Yeah I know... it's MY problem, but this puts people like me outright in a bad spot for hundreds of hours.
Farming the flying mount is absolutely terrible even in secrets of the obscure and a tedious timegated process of annoyance.
Oh and you need to read one thousands guides on everything because the game explains absolutely nothing.
Now, after my little rant, I will keep doing useless stuff with my healer/support build, that no one needs or appreciates.
Ps: Finding a guild is also not easy.
