Beautiful, bedankt Tom.
Thank you for saying what you did about the EQ and that old mentality. I think that held me back creatively for a bit after I left school. radical EQ FTW. you're the man!
every tutorial ever: make sure you adjust your gain on your compressor so the signal after the compressor is of equal level. Junkie XL: 1:52 (I Love Junkie and Waves but come on man, sell a gain knob while you are at it.)
@@wavhasfangs waves has lots of meters, I use a VU meter to gain stage before mixing and then make sure i dont over do it by ear with any following plugins, you could have a VU meter on the start and end of your chain and see the difference, search for the Fundamentals of mixing from Michael White on TH-cam for anything else.
@@wavhasfangs Most DAW peak level will even show you after the plugin that you have an increased gain. By pass on and off the plugin and watch the peak level you will definitely see the changes in the meter and peak value. May not be as accurate as say Waves' VU Meter though but it works.
GREAT videos! I have a question though: why not tweak plug-in 1, leave it on, tweak plug-in 2, leave it on, and so on? This way you wouldn't have to fix the previous plug-in settings afterwards. Like, build on what you already have instead of going back-and-forth. Or is this simply a matter of taste?
no you’re right man, I think what’s most misleading is mixing in isolation. EQ adjustments without the full song makes no sense... good plugin demo, bad mixing philosophy
These tracks are sounding like mad max but that too was amazing I'm actually getting some knowledge that I didn't knew Thanks Waves audio and junkie xl
You will never hear like him because he works on 24 bit uncompressed file through high end monitors while you are hearing a bad heavy compressed streaming file... You can only hear an increased loudness, probably badly distorted considering his plugins are reporting a clipping. it's a sponsored video, you can't pretend something better.
My thoughts about gain compensation that everyone is trying to make a flaw in those videos: adding gain with plugins in a mixing stage is a natural thing to do. Forget about that silly rule that you need everything to be matched: if you hear the difference between settings when you are applying it, then you already have an idea what needs to be done and gain adding is a part of it! That's very musical and very right way to do things! Great video, thanks Waves and Tom!
Andrei Viievskyi I understand that there is some sort of gain added when you add a plugin but 10dB addition is a bit too much.. maybe that was done for the sake of the video so people can hear the difference I don’t know, if that was the reason then Tom could have just mentioned it. Waves has grown a community of people who know their stuffs man... the newbies would think it’s right to be adding that much gain after compression and that will lead them into disaster real quick.
When you manually adjust the volume of before and after examples, the differences are so minute that it's really funny why he didn't gain compensate the two versions. But I get it, marketing is everything. Louder is better, right?
@ Waves your current "50% off EVERYTHING" sale is BS!! The only deals you really have are for $19.50...and what's with the $29.50?? That's .50 more than your usual sale prices!! You guys are lame and sharky. Thanks CLA
great video as always. Thanks Tom

Applies compression, cranks up the volume level. Compares state A with B: “definitely sounds better!”. That’s one way to sell plugins.

I thought so too man... +10dB gain after compression LOL... Coming from waves and Junkie XL, a bit dissapointed!!
I was thinking the same! Can't really compare with/without compression now. To bad!
is there a plug in i can put on the end of my chain to a/b check the loudness level quickly?

Yes, I cannot mix that way, I have to hear everything in context
These tracks are sounding like mad max but that too was amazing

Thanks

As always, great video! Thanks a lot! ;)
So Agent 47 is a mix engineer now. Didn't know that.
LMAO
great tom!!!!
Already went shopping during the WavesSale, so i can safely say: that video worked out for me! 🤓 👌
Dope n Lit!😊👏👏
Thank you.
Just wondering if the video editor has any processing on it or are we hearing the sound as Junkie XL is hearing it?

I can do all that with stuff already in Cubase 10
Way too much hype on API.
J XL you are cool, it's ok!

Andrei Viievskyi Even with +10dB gain ??? Don’t you think you will run out of head room quickly if you mix all your track like this in a mix ??

Junkie XL is so dope! @dafingaz
My ears are broken
No gain match
Tutorials and demos are useless without proper gain compensation
This ain't a tutorial. It's called *marketing*
@@thlgnd HAHAHA!!! :)))
I dont buy the hype of Waves in this one and the level is too much with plug-ins on. With that said, I use some Waves in songs...

Folks you can save your money on plugins. If you want the same effect, just +10dB same as JXL.
