Xander van Dommelen Hey thanks for that tip Xander, I have exactally the opposite problem, on my 2560 x 1600 res monitor the GUI is UGE! Now I can actually make it smaller and see the rest of my DAW lol.
You truly are this 2017 MVP for all the sharing and time you put into this videos, we should all tip our hats to you for the work you do here in TH-cam sharing the content specially with the enthusiasm and passion. Thanks for all your videos.
I found his channel today and I love that he has no secrets. He's totally open, and has some great hardware, but doesn't just trash on software like most of the hardware guys you see on here.
Tom, you are a true blessing my brother! Can't get enough of these Studio Time videos. It's like your very own Masterclass series on steroids. Thank you!
Thank you Tom for your tutorials I've seem most and due to disability which I've now been in intensive care 3 times your enthusiasm just overwhelms me how nice you are to take time out to give advice off your own back your studio is just a dream and your knowledge of everything is beyond me I've listen to a lot of recordings you have done and the scoring as I have so much time on my hands which is spent a lot house bound so keep up the great work and handing down the knowledge
Absolutely love the arturia collection the best investment I ever did !!! since I can't have the real stuff this is something really nice!!! when im tweaking the modular v3 I always says lmao junkie xl has this thing on his studio. thank you for all this amazing tutorials you have no idea how helpful they are.
THANK you for talking about Generator ! was my first production software (Generator 1.5) i created alot of synths and sequencers in there (i made full tracks there) now the software is called reaktor
@Junkie XL, TIP: regarding Arturia synths interface size: Press "Arturia" logo at top left corner > on drop-down menu press "Resize window" = make it as big as 200%, that should be more than enough to work comfortably. P.S. Big thanks for informative videos you produce , all the best!
Chief XL, you are someone I look up to, like a mentor, and big brother. I love watching your video's and yes I subscribe. In due time, I will release some great sounding tunes and even scoring music for real estate marketing and small films! Again, thanks again brother, you are truly an amazing dude and music professional!
I really hope people appreciate what they're getting when a guy like this allows them into his world, for no other reason than to help us grow as composers/artists.
About the ohmforce plugins skins, during installation you get to choose if you want to have the 'classic' (neat & tidy version you have installed) skin, or the 'funky' option, which is the big one you were looking for. Loving the ohmicide most myself out of all their plugins.
So many comments here... I'm not sure if it was mentioned but Absynth - I love it as well - is the brainchild of Bryan Clevinger ootmh. Yes, it was bought by Native Instruments. I know this from a video by PlugInGuru.
Brian Clevinger created Absynth with his company Rizomatic in 1999. I had factory patches in that early version of the PlugIn. I also interviewed Brian 2 times on my TH-cam channel. He's still the owner of Absynth - NI licenses the use exclusively. Hopefully someday we will see a version 6 of Absynth!
Also 1 have 25+ unique libraries that expand Omnisphere 2 into really cool places not covered in the massive factory voicing - Cinematic Orchestral Percussion made with synthesis using Patches playing ARP patterns?? :D
For all of you lusting after the Lexicon 224 that Tom uses at the end, you can get a really great version of it by Audio Damage, called ADverb. It's based on the 224 and it has a great GUI. It's only 50 bucks as well. Not sure how much it sounds like a 'real' 224, but it is perfect for adding that real space that you only notice when you take it off. Works great on drums for ambiance and placing in a room and also for guitars and vocals as well. I've got a boat load of Reverbs, but the Audio Damage ADverb is a real workhorse. It's not really for those super long lush chorus drone verbs (use Audio Damage EOS for that), but for mixing and tracking nothing can beat it. Absolutely essential. I've got all the Valhalla Reverbs plus many many more, but the ADverb is a real keeper.
Man it's soooo incredibly cool you are doing these video's! Thanks for your knowledge sharing and demoing all your machines man. Really cool! Much appreciated!
U-he are my go-to for analog synths. It's not that they sound "more real" (they sound great, but not like any existing synths), but that they are just well laid out and fun to use.
This is feeding my addiction for VSTs. Arturia Collection V is my favorite though, so many great keyboards and sounds. 17 Keyboards for £160-£200. I use the pianos, rhodes, wurly, B3 and Vox organs all the time.
Thanks, Tom. You don't talk about favorite piano or orchestral vst's, but we know you like Ivory and Cinematic, and that you have the Spitfire and, no doubt, Zimmer libraries. Well, you actually have everything under the sun and apparently use them all a lot, from Roland 110 to Eurorack and Eventide; I guess it's all good, then. I admire your positivity and generosity.
hot tip for VSTs with tiny UIs: get an old second hand monitor with a tiny resolution and a cheap usb graphics card. simply have it sit off to the left and just drag the VST onto it whenever you need to "zoom in" as it were. total cost as low as 50 bux or so if you're an ebay master.
It's amazing what Tom does, he really opened up his books for audience. All plugins he mentioned are awesome, use most of it , hope he knows about Izotope Iris Sampler/synth.
I agree. u-he stuff is awesome. But I should also mention TAL Software GmbH, Memory Moon's ME80 and, surprisingly, MU Tools. Not to forget Stieinburg's Retrologue. Some of these will emulate and let you tweak the bodgey component tolerances and thermal qualities that gave so many early synths that 'phat' analog sound (by accident).
Tom, loved your videos. It's very kind of you to share all that with the world. What about a tutorial on create custom sample libraries in Kontakt ? Would be really amazing to see any of your custom libraries in action, outside the framework of the movie that were created/used !
Hi Tom, thanks for the great vids! I'm interested in hearing more about your surround setup, when and how you got into surround mixing and maybe what are some pitfalls for people entering that domain. Keep up the great work!
I'm producing electronic music for about 10 years now and I understand all of the concepts that you discuss, Tom (I understand them from a technical viewpoint is what I mean; I'm not trying to come across arrogant here I because I certainly understand that "understanding" and "putting to good use" are two different worlds altogether). What boggles my mind is the sheer volume of it - how on earth are you able to understand, memorise and put to good use all of the subtleties of each synth, sound, effect? I would get completely overwhelmed with such a massive amount of choice in my arsenal. I've had to trim down my plugins and hardware to just the basics in order to be productive and move on with things. The mental-organisation of it all - understanding when to use what, and why, that's the thing that's really impressive to me.
Love STUDIO TIME! Your the best, taking the time for this Tom!
@Junkie XL- for the OhmBoyz delay UI, you need to select the skin (Classic or Funky) at install time - "You will have to choose between Classic Skin and Funky Skin (they cannot be both installed),"
The Arturia Synclavier emulation is remarkable in many ways. First of all: The Synclavier was an early digital synthesizer - basicly an algorithm based machine so the emulation can be 1:1 if carefully done. 2. They got Cameron Jones onboard who was an engineer on New England Digital developing The Synclavier. 3. They expanded on the already rich capacity of the machine.
The Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol keyboard is awesome indeed, I'm using it myself, though the smaller S61 (back when I purchased it the S88 wasn't out yet 😀) Do you also use the Komplete Kontrol feature, it's so cool! I love it. Great video again, it's awesome to see behind the curtain in such detail! 👍👍👍
it's funny to me how many of these tools are simply industry standard. A lot of my picks are the same, it's great to hear about ones I was less aware of.
Maybe this wasn't part of the collection, this round, but does this mean ZERO convolution reverbs in your rad mixes? If I missed that in earlier tutorials, somehow, please forgive! Amazing stuff, all around, as always!
w1wang i think you have to pay native to bundle your own sounds into library. There's a few hacks but i didn't bothered to read the whole topics i stumbled upon.
if you have your own samples, just drag them onto kontakt (without any library open) you can then start matching samples with keyboard keys and etc. its actually super straightforward
If Tom is saying he cannot afford a Synclavier than safe to assume it's beyond fking expensive! Great vid as always man enjoying seeing your go to soft Synths
massive was prototyped inside reaktor by mike daliot but these ensembles never made it out of native instruments offices... there IS a factory ensemble in reaktor called massive 1.1, it's not a synth but a groovebox, and also made by mike daliot, confusingly enough.

Tom, the CS-80 V window can be resized when you click on the logo at the top left and go to resize window. At 200% it's massive!
Awesome!! Gonna check that right away!!
junkiexlofficial this is one of the magic of vst 3. Awesome Musik and thanks for your videos. Stay tuned
Xander van Dommelen beat me to it
vst2 can be expanded a lot too! just click the "A" top left corner :P

I love that you make time to do this videos. You are an inspiration.
Have you tried Serum? It's brilliant
THANK you for talking about Generator ! was my first production software (Generator 1.5) i created alot of synths and sequencers in there (i made full tracks there) now the software is called reaktor
Xpertvision oh yes, this brings back some old memories :)
@Junkie XL,
TIP: regarding Arturia synths interface size: Press "Arturia" logo at top left corner > on drop-down menu press "Resize window" = make it as big as 200%, that should be more than enough to work comfortably.
P.S. Big thanks for informative videos you produce , all the best!
Love your tutorials! Fun to see all of the similar things we use! Fun to find some new things, also.
Chief XL, you are someone I look up to, like a mentor, and big brother. I love watching your video's and yes I subscribe. In due time, I will release some great sounding tunes and even scoring music for real estate marketing and small films! Again, thanks again brother, you are truly an amazing dude and music professional!

Thanks a lot Junkie XL. You are a blessing to many of us 👍
So many comments here... I'm not sure if it was mentioned but Absynth - I love it as well - is the brainchild of Bryan Clevinger ootmh. Yes, it was bought by Native Instruments. I know this from a video by PlugInGuru.
I could listen to Tom talk about audio tech all day... And thanks to TH-cam, I do 👍🏻
Thanks a ton Tom! This video was invaluable & informative! Thank you so much taking time out to do these.Cheers!
Great stuff...LOVE to see what others use and how they use it!!!!
Best part; those mystery keys starting at 42:00. LOL. Thanks for these incredible videos, Tom! I hope to work with you one day!
Omnisphere is a totally different Plugin then any other. It is the new of its kind. Tom, you are in for a treat.

Really interesting selection of plug-ins - bought the full Arturia collection earlier in the summer after your recommendation - best purchase ever!
For all of you lusting after the Lexicon 224 that Tom uses at the end, you can get a really great version of it by Audio Damage, called ADverb. It's based on the 224 and it has a great GUI. It's only 50 bucks as well.

OMG I'd LOVE those Kontakt libraries of yours!!
Wow, with this tutorial I believe you gave to a lot of people beautiful and very useful solutions!!! Great one!!
Thank you so much. Was waiting for this one..!!
U-he are my go-to for analog synths. It's not that they sound "more real" (they sound great, but not like any existing synths), but that they are just well laid out and fun to use.
Thanks for sharing Tom
Keyscapes is nice sounding spectrasonics offering but having option of using those sounds through omnisphere 2 is awesome combined. crazy good fun.
Thanx much in telling what u used...wished i had half of these as most of them are expensive...but gratitude for the information.
This is feeding my addiction for VSTs. Arturia Collection V is my favorite though, so many great keyboards and sounds. 17 Keyboards for £160-£200. I use the pianos, rhodes, wurly, B3 and Vox organs all the time.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge very generous! I'm extremely jealous of both your talent and your studio!
Agree with all these choices and have most ! Great vid
That sem is the shiiiiit! I'm watching this and turned on analog lab to follow along, I love the sounds this makes.
Brilliant series vriend! I loved the Lexicon (hardware box) back in the day. I always wondered how well l the plugin was. Now I know.
hot tip for VSTs with tiny UIs: get an old second hand monitor with a tiny resolution and a cheap usb graphics card. simply have it sit off to the left and just drag the VST onto it whenever you need to "zoom in" as it were. total cost as low as 50 bux or so if you're an ebay master.
also if you have windows try out the windows magnifier. some plugins are not made for it and will glitch out, however.
I use this technique. Old monitors can be had for less than $20 at resale shops! And many graphic cards
support dual monitors.
+famitory +Benjamin Tucker - Brilliant idea!
It's amazing what Tom does, he really opened up his books for audience. All plugins he mentioned are awesome, use most of it , hope he knows about Izotope Iris Sampler/synth.
An episode on those kontakt libaries and how you've programmed them in Kontakt would be amazing!
Amazing. Thank you Tom

Still can't believe the amount of content you push out on YT, thanks for al the tips Tom! Groetjes, Tom
Hi Tom, thanks for the great vids! I'm interested in hearing more about your surround setup, when and how you got into surround mixing and maybe what are some pitfalls for people entering that domain. Keep up the great work!

Also, since you like Massive, there is a Massive-eske skin for Zebra 2 that you might or might not find interesting: plugmon.org/massive-modular/
Great question. Would love Tom to show us how he decides what to use with all that choice available.
Definitely check that out!

I just posted a comment on this a few days ago and Viola! it's here! You're awesome!!!!
About the Ohmforce plugins - in the installation your are asked to choose the classic or funky skin.
@Junkie XL- for the OhmBoyz delay UI, you need to select the skin (Classic or Funky) at install time - "You will have to choose between Classic Skin and Funky Skin (they cannot be both installed),"
Hi Tom, thanks for all these great videos! PS: watch that coffee cup on the top of that Model 15 :)
many thanks for doing this!!!
Great stuff Tom.
Thank you for another excellent and informative video! You've validated all my own choices in soft synths and effects ;-)
Thank you sir! You're definitely a musical gangster. Epic work on The Dark Tower btw
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING SO GENEROUS! YOU'RE THE BEST!!
fabfilter is sick. Simplon is by far my most used plugin.

god thank you so much for doing these. I get a TON out of your videos.
The Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol keyboard is awesome indeed, I'm using it myself, though the smaller S61 (back when I purchased it the S88 wasn't out yet 😀)
Do you also use the Komplete Kontrol feature, it's so cool! I love it.
Great video again, it's awesome to see behind the curtain in such detail! 👍👍👍
Your enthusiasm is contagious! :-D
Hey Tom to change to skin you have to install Ohmboys again and choose the funky skin option during the instalation.
I did some patches for the CS80 and SEM V. Hope he uses some!
it's funny to me how many of these tools are simply industry standard.
It's DUTCH!!!
Mmz I didn't know that
Protools , Macromedia, Digidesign, Avid etc. made in the USA
LOGIC is U.S.
Slate Digital is U.S.
logic is German
Thank you 4 videos, awesome job done, everytime very usefull.
Just give a try to a very old soft-synth z3ta+
It's a bomb!
Love this channel
i just want to say thanks for share your knowledge,,,THANKS
Tom, you are just Gold man! We know how much strain you take to upload these videos. You are so appreciated for doing this!
Also @42.00 😄😄
Thanks man! Learned a lot as always.
Hey I was wondering if anyone knows how to make custom library folders in Kontakt? I've been trying to figure that out for a while now
same here! would love to see a video on that!
w1wang i think you have to pay native to bundle your own sounds into library. There's a few hacks but i didn't bothered to read the whole topics i stumbled upon.
Did you try google "how to create custom libraries in kontakt" ? :D
if you have your own samples, just drag them onto kontakt (without any library open) you can then start matching samples with keyboard keys and etc. its actually super straightforward
@Junkie XL you can resize the window when you click the Arturia Icon on the Top Left ;) just saying lol
works for all V Collection Synths
If you have Reaktor, check out the Photone synth. Its a fantastic synth and JXL made some great patches for it.
"Spectas-tronics" Oh Tom, you silly dutch! Love ya =)
If Tom is saying he cannot afford a Synclavier than safe to assume it's beyond fking expensive! Great vid as always man enjoying seeing your go to soft Synths
I am forever grateful
Getting better as each one goes by :-)
Thank you for the video. And, what is your favorite libraries for orchestral sounds?
That Arturia pack is a treasure trove for synthwave producers.
Great video!
Kontakt has SP-1200 and MPC-60 transposition algorithms if you need dirtier sound.
massive was prototyped inside reaktor by mike daliot but these ensembles never made it out of native instruments offices... there IS a factory ensemble in reaktor called massive 1.1, it's not a synth but a groovebox, and also made by mike daliot, confusingly enough.
If you're a fan of Diva and Monark, check out The Legend by Synapse Audio. Some guy did a youtube comparison video on youtube and The Legend seems to come the closest to the original Minimoog Model D!
I own the legend and it is an excellent sounding synth. Definitely worth trying it sounds alive.
Great post. I have The Legend and it feels rather close to the real thing. It's incredible. Although, it is still not 100%. I used to own a Minimoog. All these emulations sound too static to me. I have to process them really well with the outboard to get that more real, "wiggly" sound. But it works. ;)
dddux what specific outboard gear you use for processing digital synth to bring it alive?
I guess this will be one of the most viewed video on Junkie XL's channel :D
You should try jbridge .i use it and it takes some CPU away from cubase and allows you to use all plugins, new cubase does not allow some plugins to run like kontakt,my buddy has had many problems with kontakt.......uad plugs?
Mr Tom, I bet you will love Meldaproduction stuff, very advanced stuff!
33:36 you should try playing with waves enigma, mondomod, ultrapitch and pusher, you'll see that it's quite possible to go off the beaten path and have a wild session with waves stuff :)
Great content. Thank you for that.
What i am interested in is your project backup strategie. What is your approach on that?
I love your shirts!
Is there any way to buy the mad max library or any of your libraries?
I'd love to get Omnisphere 2 at some point but I love u-he Zebra2. So good!
For plugins delay the psp 608 and they make the lex 42 ,84and 85 that are great delays ....hardware would be the tc 2290 or the h3000
The arturia ones are easy to resize, just go to settings!
In the Ohmboyz (and other Ohmforce plugins)
the skin is defined at installation.
