What a great idea: to have a deck of Taskmaster cards with images of different contestants on the back - they could each be depicted in one of their best or worst moments. Another few seasons, and there'd be enough for a canasta deck (double a regular deck) - with Greg and Alex as all the jokers. Or, use 2 of the jokers for them and on the other two could be the yellow plastic duck and Linda the cow.

I love how Taskmaster really always makes you go from "Oh I miss the old cast, who are the new ones? I don't know any of them" to "Holy shit these people are hilarious and I love them all" within a handful of episodes.

But the show knows how to put together a good cast and this one is in the top half I'd argue!! Even if some of the tasks are a bit rough around the edges (I mean, it's series 17) the chemistry and banter from this series is amazing.

John tied ten ties together before using them to tie himself to the cot because he remembered the Task from Series 7 when the contestants had to tie themselves up, then have Alex untie them, but were interrupted to put on boliersuits halfway through. The man is a Taskmaster savant.

I don't think John Robins is any less competitive than Ed, but maybe he doesn't show it quite in the same way. Personally, I didn't mind Ed. I also think the competition is not quite as stiff in S17. Joanne and Steve are good, but John is already 10 points ahead of Joanne and 13 of Steve. Even at the end, Ed was fewer than 10 points away from both Rose and Katy. (And Katy was sick during the studio recordings.)
Huh interesting. John feels to me has a level of intensity that far surpasses Ed, it's just not expressed outwardly. He holds all of it inside and creates this aura of still air in the studio. It's very similar to Mae from series 15. Personally I enjoy it more when someone like Ed or Iain let it all out. It creates funnier studio interactions to me. But that's just preference.
"The load is on his chin--" Greg, unable to keep the sophomoric joy from saying this about (his crush) Nick. It's nearly CRIMINAL in that this statement came 'naturally'.. and he's SO transparent about his bias over his Nick - Love and Steve - Hate. It makes them being teamed up that much more exciting!!
The fact that in the same episode different people made the joke I was very TIRE’D 23:39 and I’m quite TIE’RED 27:22 is one of the most taskmaster moments i’ve seen
The tie task read "If you pull down the 'terrible tie', you are disqualified." I had to go back and watch again whether the terrible tie was pulled down, or just happened to fall. It was pulled.
Nick asked how he would know which is the terrible tie. Alex replied "Oh, you'll know" like it would be immediately obvious. What a little liar. I had hoped pulling the terrible tie would cause an immediate effect like dropping pudding on them or something.
My favorite part about the load bearing task is how Greg's cutout was bent at the shins. Like he's being put through a wringer. But he's not bothered about it in the slightest.
Sophie was so amazing this episode, I haven't giggled so hard in a while when she was jumping with the pigeon! Devastated she missed her chance to win the episode

I love John reacting to the midair task by immediately being like, "Health and safety is going to hate this." I have to know how many lectures he got from them. We know he had at least one two hour meeting. He strikes me as the sort of contestant that would literally jump off the roof of the Taskmaster house for this challenge.
I feel like there might be a lot of opportunity to wonder if there's any actual negativity between Alex and Greg, but one, they've been doing it for 17 seasons, either yes or they're really locked into a paycheck, but two, Alex's laughter at 9:32 shows how much fun they're really having underneath it all

I’m learning Welsh on Duolingo (dw i’n hoffi dysgu cymraeg!) and I’ve never felt smarter than when I noticed the word “ofnadwy” on the tie. “Ofnadwy” means “terrible” and it was one of the first words I learned!

I’m learning Welsh on Duolingo (dw i’n hoffi dysgu cymraeg!) and I’ve never felt smarter than when I noticed the word “ofnadwy” on the tie. “Ofnadwy” means “terrible” and it was one of the first words I learned!

I thought the Diamond Dogs sweater was a Metal Gear Solid reference then I remembered it was a David Bowie album so I briefly thought it was that but then I remembered Ted Lasso used the term a few times if I remember right. So there's that little journey inside my own head. Regardless of where it's aimed at, that's awesome
