WILTY and QI take the panel show crown for me. I cannot decide between them. Taskmaster is disqualified for reasons of not really being a panel show, but is absolutely excellent. Catsdown, Cats, and Mock the Week are the next three, then HIGNFY.
Discovering Taskmaster (and working through all the seasons) was a bright spot at the start of the pandemic (I think that’s when they started releasing them on TH-cam). Thanks Alex / Greg for all the laughs. Love from Canada
Taskmaster is a great show. The editing and camera work is so incredible you don't realize how incredible it is at first. The contestants are always great and these two hosts are a perfect match up. I've watched every season to date as they hit TH-cam for the US audience and enjoy it not only as a comedy but also as a peak into the human mind. Contestants will usually approach the same task in radically different ways. Some are very literal thinkers and plow straight in, some try to find a way around the rules to accomplish the task in a way that fits the goal but isn't what was really meant. Some notice clues, others don't. Some are exceptionally creative, even if they aren't the best at the task. It just works so well, one of my favorite television shows of all time.
His song at the Royal variety performance called your nan in front of Prince Harry is just brilliant. Greg Davies used to be in a musical comedy group called we are klang
Great to see Taskmaster UK getting some US exposure! To any worldwide newbies, I'd thoroughly recommend giving it a watch! If you're as silly as I am, you'll love it!
Taskmaster Australia is good as well! TM New Zealand also had some really fun candidates, the assistant is very good, but that Jeremy Wells dude is a big dud as the TM.
Yeah, the US version of TM failed so maybe they're trying to push the UK version. Americans that don't know it have a lot of fun ahead of them. The New Zealand version is also excellent from season 2 onwards. The first is worth watching but the second is some of the funniest TV ever.
@@mfsoab Jeremy gets better, becomes more relaxed but for me he's one of the reasons that first NZ season doesn't work as well. It seemed like he had no idea about what he was doing. Very flat and boring but he does improve, which you may have seen.
Greg is a national treasure. Alex Horne is our secret weapon. Samevwith James Acaster and Bob Mortimer, they are our comedy Superheroes. Honourable mention as always to Sean Lock R.I.P.
Most "unscripted" TV usually has some scripting or direction that's why. Whereas Taskmaster is literally spur of the moment, come up with an idea and implement it, and then you get the masterpiece of seeing 5 people with varying outlandish ideas.
After binging so many TM seasons in all languages, the UK shows 4 times at least, I'd reckon 20% of TM UK is scripted. But it's fine. Great entertainment.
The trick is to hire people who are professionally funny. US reality shows and game shows are always hiring regular people, or D-list celebrities, or random musicians. The UK is just like, "Wait a minute. What if we got a whole show full of people who are funny and interesting *on purpose* ?"

I only started watching because I thought she might ask me what I thought of it. She was right, I did need this in my life! Do yourself a favor and check it out.
Honestly, scripted British tv shows do not tend to hit for me at all, I've enjoyed very few, but they're one of the few regions that embraces panel shows, and panel shows must be appreciated! I will never understand why Americans are often so terrible at them and why it seems to be so difficult a vibe for them to fit into.
I got sick a few years ago and discovered Taskmaster while surfing youtube for things to watch. Man I binged every series of Taskmaster and have been addicted every since. James Acaster just as a person and the whole of series 4 are my biggest highlights As a US viewer, a bucket list task would be getting to sit in for an episode taping. Keep them coming LLLLITTLE ALEX HORNE!
Alex has been on US TV, on an American attempt to do an American Taskmaster. The fact it happened (one season) is about all you might want to know about it... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taskmaster_(American_TV_series)
My favourite taskmaster video is of Alex & a contestant trying to catch a sausage in their mouth as it swung around a totem pole. When the machine started up & the sausage started whizzing past really fast & smacking them in the face on its way past I very nearly peed myself laughing. To this day I have to make sure I go to the loo before I can watch that clip.
I would like to point out that the reason Taskmaster is so internationally popular*, is that the show made the decisions to upload every episode in full on thier TH-cam channel. I can't believe how so many good shows are hidden behind paywalls and in addition exclude the rest of the world, people dont want subscription services they want to be able to watch what is out there. *it also helps a lot that it is a genuinely good and funny show.
Oh man- good job, lads! So happy for you guys. Been watching since this was on Dave and honestly so happy to be part of the across the pond audience since!
I have LITERALLY never been as excited to watch one (two) of your guests before, and for the announcement of the release of something. I'm mostly here for A Closer Look, as it gives me the Seth Weekend Update vibes I miss, but I RAN to watch this interview.

Taskmaster is one of the only shows I actually cant wait to watch. Its the best introduction to English, Scottish, Irish, South African, etc Comedians, and most importantly ... English panel shows. Unlike something like SNL, Taskmaster shows you who their guests actually are, and why they are funny individuals.
It's genuinely impressive that Taskmasters been *very* entertaining for sixteen series now, soon to be seventeen. I have soo many favorite taskmaster moments that they no longer fit the definition of a single favorite. It's just like...a plethorite now.
@@FloraWest I personally wasn't really a fan of series ten. Part of that was just the show having to deal with pandemic related stuff, like social distancing and lack of a live audience, another part was only two of the comedians' humor really working for me. The others I found actively annoying. Still, one series out of sixteen being a bit of a dud...not a bad score! All other series actually made me miss the contestants a bit when a series came to an end.
Yes! You are so right. I’ve seen every season and I can’t tell you how many times I will see the lineup of new comedians for a season and only know 1 or 2 and think to myself “oh no, this isn’t going to be as good” and literally every time I’ve been wrong, 16 seasons and it has genuinely never been less than incredibly funny and entertaining.
Thank you Seth for supporting so many of these British talents, likely introducing them to many Americans. I discovered TM during lockdown and binged all the available episodes at the time. Was comfort tv for me. I love Greg Davies other shows too - Man Down, the Cleaner, etc. His stories on Graham Norton are legendary.
I discovered Taskmaster through TH-cam a couple of years ago & cannot get enough. The episodes and the clip posts the TM social staff puts together never get old!
I am amazed by how receptive the audience is in this interview. Lots of British comedians just can't work an American audience even if the host loves them (thinking of James Acaster but honestly they all fit the bill) but this is the only instance I know of where an American audience seem fully invested and entertained by British comedians.
I am so happy to see Greg and Alex with the perfect interviewer, actually in NY. I didn't think anyone here (I'm in Georgia) would know who they were. I'm delighted for TM's success.

17 series (and several specials) and they're still rising in popularity, absolutely well deserved, the show is hilarious.
Don't forget all the international versions! And ONLY the international versions...
Plus the podcasts.
Plus someone in the states made their own version. Taskmaster Wisconsin(?).

"Taskmaster" and "Would I lie to you" are by far the best television there has ever been. Both are UK shows and sooooo much better than any American ive ever seen. I have grown up in and never left the USA. Im so happy that i have found them both through TH-cam.
WILTY and QI take the panel show crown for me. I cannot decide between them. Taskmaster is disqualified for reasons of not really being a panel show, but is absolutely excellent. Catsdown, Cats, and Mock the Week are the next three, then HIGNFY.
Both have American adaptations, and both adaptations are substantially inferior to the originals.

Discovering Taskmaster (and working through all the seasons) was a bright spot at the start of the pandemic (I think that’s when they started releasing them on TH-cam). Thanks Alex / Greg for all the laughs. Love from Canada
That's when I started watching too! Really cheered me and took my mind off things!
Same.....😊 they even sent home tasks.....thats was really smart.
Unfortunately unable to watch all the Taskmaster series on TH-cam here in Australia

Greg Davies is one of the funniest people on earth I'm so glad to see him with Seth
His song at the Royal variety performance called your nan in front of Prince Harry is just brilliant.
Greg Davies used to be in a musical comedy group called we are klang

@guyjackson132 Or as Greg Davies himself would prefer it, ' the tall m.f. with the ivory hair'. (From Assim's love rap).
His series, "The Cleaner," is fantastic and funny.
Taskmaster on TH-cam got me through the pandemic. Seeing them on an American talk show is blowing my mind, God bless Seth Meyers.
I think the pandemic and their Home Tasks helped the world get through it sanely
Great to see Taskmaster UK getting some US exposure! To any worldwide newbies, I'd thoroughly recommend giving it a watch! If you're as silly as I am, you'll love it!
How can we know how silly you are?
Angela Dravid is the reason that I ever rewatch the first season.
Greg is a national treasure. Alex Horne is our secret weapon. Samevwith James Acaster and Bob Mortimer, they are our comedy Superheroes.
Honourable mention as always to Sean Lock R.I.P.
Sean's the greatest Taskmaster housemate that never happened. He surely would've been on the show eventually had he not departed this world.
I fell in love with Bob Mortimer watching Would I Lie to You on TH-cam.
@@amph4474if I want to cry from laughing, Bob on WILTY is my go-to. So unbelievably funny.
Greg Davies and Alex Horne being guests on Late Night promoting Taskmaster is the most excited I’ve ever been to click on a Late Night video
I'm usually not one for unscripted television but Taskmaster is an absolutely brilliant show.
Most "unscripted" TV usually has some scripting or direction that's why. Whereas Taskmaster is literally spur of the moment, come up with an idea and implement it, and then you get the masterpiece of seeing 5 people with varying outlandish ideas.
Scripted TV sucks, Fallon and others vs Craig and Geoff
After binging so many TM seasons in all languages, the UK shows 4 times at least, I'd reckon 20% of TM UK is scripted. But it's fine. Great entertainment.
The trick is to hire people who are professionally funny. US reality shows and game shows are always hiring regular people, or D-list celebrities, or random musicians. The UK is just like, "Wait a minute. What if we got a whole show full of people who are funny and interesting *on purpose* ?"
@@stephanemignot100 Craig Ferguson was my favorite. There is something fake and annoying about both Jimmys' laughs.
I only discovered Taskmaster last September and have already watched EVERYTHING available on TH-cam. Still crushing on Rose Matafeo.

THANK YOU for finally introducing the Taskmaster and Little Alex Horne to the US the right way - Taskmaster is my absolute favorite show and it was such a drag how it was attempted in the US around 10 years ago. Taskmaster is the show I set a reminder for. I watch it the minute it is available. I tell everyone about it. I love, love it. It has some of my favorite comedians showing up. This was GREAT.
I have a feeling that Seth Meyers spends his spare time like I do; watching UK panel and chat shows as well as clips of the shows.

I'd say Graham Norton still wears that crown.

Love seeing Taskmaster in the US! MORE PEOPLE NEED THIS SHOW IN THEIR LIFE!
I couldn’t agree more!
That Steve numberplate is going to have something to do with a task on a future episode, isn't it 😂
I was not expecting the Taskmaster and Little Alex Horne to be on US TV. That’s amazing

My favourite taskmaster video is of Alex & a contestant trying to catch a sausage in their mouth as it swung around a totem pole. When the machine started up & the sausage started whizzing past really fast & smacking them in the face on its way past I very nearly peed myself laughing. I would like to point out that the reason Taskmaster is so internationally popular*, is that the show made the decisions to upload every episode in full on thier TH-cam channel.

I have soo many favorite taskmaster moments that they no longer fit the definition of a single favorite. It's just like...a plethorite now.
Same! And there are no bad seasons for me-they range from really good to off the charts. Incredibly consistently hilarious show.

Feels so unreal to see them on an American talkshow!!
