      lol, I recall driving my mom's old Volare wagon in high school / college and thinking: "this turd is so slow but I've been trying to kill it for years and can't!" Then I read up on the history of the engine. How it was supposed to be aluminum and how it was overbuilt as cast iron. Now I have new respect for it. I was still running 3 or 4 owners later. I'd still see it in parking lots with my high school and Uni stickers on it. Still had the dent in the fender where I was checking out coeds with mini skirts and clipped a parking sign with the bumper. Good but slow times.

      @@Bozo1360 nope its a stout 904! Thanks for the info Will. With the correct parts and modifications you can get the 904 to work behind some pretty wicked small blocks / slants. And they are waaay lighter so that will zap less horsepower from your engine.

    In Australia , we had 215 , 245 and 265 CI Hemi straight 6 engines. Some performance variants had triple weber carbs with decent long tube extractors and in a Mopar called a charger.

      slant 6 is a steel motor,steel crank steel rods and a bulletproof block,there' s no end to the fun,everything you do increases hp cheaper than a v8,less breakage

    • @strattuner
      @strattuner 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I worked for mopar for years all of the slants up to 1975 were steel,the best ones were 1965-71,but they were all battle ready

    • @peteloomis8456
      @peteloomis8456 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      strattuner They aren't cheaper to build for racing compared to a V8 take a look at Clifford 6=8 & see how expensive parts are for any 6s be it Chevrolet Mopar or Ford ! I would bet in order for this engine here to get into the 9s there are a lot of custom made internals inside along with some serious stuff done to the head it self to get it to flow good enough for the turbo do it's job. I always wanted to build a 6 for the fun of it being I used to build engines at a speed shop GM Ford Mopar stuff so I looked into building a 6 & it's quite bit more to build one compared to most of the popular V8 engines while the 6 still makes much less HP & torque so it really isn't cost effective to build one for racing. The leaning tower of power is a great engine had a few my self & the early ones used the same crank shaft bearings as a 440 & 426 Hemi does so very strong but I have seen a few that were blown up with a hole in the block from a rod letting loose so they definitely aren't indestructible. I would also bet this here engine has a filled block with hardener to stiffen it up more to support the high pressure that the turbo is pushing to get the HP it's making to get into those 9s so the cylinders aren't moving around flexing & loosing ring seal & power, probably sleeved as well so it has thicker cylinders to add strength as well. Either way this is very impressive being those 6s aren't easy to make serious power with or cheap to do !

      Not taking the valve cover off to service a solid roller valve train before 300k miles isn't that much to brag about. Your grandpa should have had those covers off every 5k miles or so to inspect the lash. That's 60x he neglected that engine! If your going to brag on reliable engines at least do it with a proper comment and mechanical knowledge of what your talking about.

    Tower of power, is the bottom
    end design. Crank only has 4
    journals, instead of the 7 most
    other sixes have.
    But, those 4 main journals, are the
    same size as the 2nd Gen Hemi.

      you must have been high,its far from the best engine ever.......if you spend 3-4 times ON A SLANT 6 what you would spend on a Chrysler v8 you will make 1/2 the power OR LESS.stock,these piles were awful and were known as rolls canardlies,rolls down one hill can hardly make it up the other.this is a labor of love and yes,it is awesome!!!!!!

    • @44hawk28
      @44hawk28 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trillrifaxegrindor4411 the original Slant-6 was actually a race engine and it was all aluminum. The iron version was underpowered yet it was almost impossible to get it to stop running. I have seen them run with no oil for miles and miles. I even know of one case where men bought a brand new Dart with a slant 6 and drove it for 79,000 miles before it wouldn't start. They ask him when he last check the oil and he didn't even know he had to check the oil or change it. He had left the original oil in the engine from the day he bought it. Why do you think all of those commercials where they put slick 50 in in engine in the drain the oil ins sit there and let the engine run are a there a slant 6 Chrysler engine or a small block 318.
      Please read my post, at no time did I ever say it was the best engine ever I implied that it was as reliable and agendas you could find. So please check your drugs.

    It's nice to see someone use something other than an ls. It just amazes me how many times and for how long the driver hit the rev limiter. Either the rev limiter is set to low or the car would be faster if the limiter wasn't hit (reduced power}.

I think ford really had something on Chevy back in the day with their Windsor engines but I think they really screwed up making multiple variations of the same cube engine. When it comes to modern stuff, there is no beating Chevy IMO. Anyone can make either one work but the Chevy will be easier on your wallet anyday.

    He'll go 8's. Last couple of passes he was shootin ducks the top of each gear. Et's dropped but lost a lot of mile an hour. Stop shootin ducks and the mile an hour and the pull at the top of each gear will be enough to drop into the 8's. Super dangerous car off the line. Seems to just teleport to half track shootin ducks and all.

    Ours must have been made on a Friday.
    1977 Dodge Tradesman. Didn’t even have 100,000 miles on it and it was burning oil and had such low compression that if it was parked on any incline the cylinders would leak down in a matter of seconds and kaTHUNK it would roll and hold for another few seconds then... kaTHUNK!!
