    The most dangerous job in horse racing is being a race horse. 29 just at Santa Anita this season. An average of 750 horses dead each year at tracks across the world.

      Much the same can be said for all equestrian activities, even more horses out in paddocks. It's a very small percentage of all horses in work. Sometimes bad things happen in clumps, and an unusually wet fall and winter in SoCal affected the track at Santa Anita. This has been largely corrected, and I do think that too much has been made of this sad set of events. Unfortunately, on equine subjects there are some outspoken and misleading "influencers" in the social media (TH-cam, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook) whose noise drowns out the good work being done by people and organizations to make equestrian activities humane and relatively safe. Horses actually love performing, galloping and jumping when properly prepared, trained and ridden. I will never forget the whinnies of delight from my owner-trainer father's horse when he heard the squeaky ramp of the trailer being lowered before his daily trip to the racecourse for work.

    I had a retired outrider horse. My husband roped off of him. My 6 year old daughter rode barrels on him. We sold him to a man that used him for a babysitter. Four kids would ride him at the same time without a saddle or bridle. We called him battleship because he was a horse and a half long and tall. He was a great horse.

      Charlie Hogan It is and always has been the descriptive term used for all non-race horses on the tracks in North America. I sometimes say 'pony-horse', for those that don't know. However, referring to the "pony" or "horse" is the best way to be clear about which equine we are speaking about. However, it is used to define the horse that is used for their occupation and action: ponying, pony or ponied. I might say, 'The horse, Lava Man was a successful race horse, and now is a successful and happy pony.'

    • @charityville7562
      @charityville7562 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I hate idiots who have no knowledge of horse racing running their months. The term "pony" has nothing to do with the animal's size or breed. It has to do with the animal's role. Horses are racing animals. Ponies are non-racing animals.
