@@LucasF25the chimera ant arc isn't that crazy bro. Sorry I offended you but the current arc is far more interesting for me. You don't think it'll get better? Just wait and see.
The crazy thing about this episode is, if you rewatch it, it will actually hit even harder, once you realized the symbolisms, it hits the hardest. Crazy how many times you watch it, it just keeps getting better
That's something I've always found it interesting about this arc. I even know people who didn't cry the first time they watched getting emotionally destroyed while rewatching it. It's not a "even althought I've watched before it still hurts" kind of thing, but a "Wtf, Why is this even worse than last time?"
In case you don't see it: Do you remenber the "kokkuri" move komugi invent and have to counter in the next tornament. She call the move "her babby" The king use it at a moment, wich make her stop, she hesitate to kill her babby again that the king "just revive" In the game they play, she use the "kokkuri" move, wich make the king angry, but then succeed to win. So, she save her babby ... their Babby. Another detaills, when he was close to her, she touch meruem face, surely acknowledge he was not human, but still take his hand
Moves they play in Gungi signifies more in-depth meaning, read this if you want to cry more: Kokoriko is an advanced Gungi technique developed by Komugi that centers around isolating the King (as in the Gungi piece, not the Chimera Ant), separating it from the other pieces and killing it off. Just like Netero and the Hunters were planning to do to Meruem. However, Komugi unexpectedly develops a counter to this technique in the middle of a game, meaning that the King piece (representing Meruem) no longer has to die (since he unexpectedly survived the nuke). Then, later on, when Komugi uses Kokoriko again, she actually develops a counter to the counter ("she reversed my reversal???"), representing that the King piece (Meruem) apparently actually does have to die after all (because of the Rose's poison). However, immediately after beating Meruem using Kokoriko (symbolizing his imminent death), Komugi and Meruem start one final game together, a game that they never finish. 1-5-1 Black King -> 9-5-1 White Lieutenant General, I believe, or something to that extent. Immediately afterwards, they die together, leaving on the board Meruem's one black piece and Komugi's single white piece, together in Gungi forever. This represents that the two were always united through Gungi, and will continue to be together even after death, undisturbed and united for all eternity. Meruem places his piece down, symbolizing his death, and then Komugi responds by placing her piece down next to his, showing that she is perfectly willing to die at his side.. The black screen/black panels in the manga show that the Rose's poison has made Meruem go blind. That's why he has to keep asking Komugi if she's still there, because he can't see her anymore. This is ironic because his name means "the light that illuminates/shines upon all". He even got some godlike light-related photon-based powers before his death, allowing him to fulfill his name. In addition, as they are playing in the bunker before their deaths, Meruem sees a blinding light radiating from Komugi as she "reverses his reversal", making her "the light that illuminates even the all-powerful light". Despite being far weaker (and blind to boot), her light shined far brighter than his. Then, as he dies, Komugi holds him and feels his head, allowing her to finally "see" or know what his face is like. Thus, as they die, Meruem joins Komugi in blindness as she joins him in death. Meruem can finally see what Komugi has been seeing all along, and knows what it feels like to be blind like her, and Komugi finally knows his face, allowing each to understand the other more as they fade away (the OST used during their death scene is called "Understanding"). Touching, isn't it? Togashi is a mastermind, and this entire story, especially this arc, is a masterpiece, a beautiful work of art, a canvas depicting love, hatred, innocence, corruption, happiness, suffering, loyalty, betrayal, anger, sadness, life, death, malevolence, destruction, resolve, determination, avarice, sacrifice, "true" power, truth, and understanding. (its @jagmohanmandre7447 who tell me it :) )
Meruem gets blind that's why he ask to komugi if she's still there. He passe to "never make me repeat myself" to asking non-stop komugi to be there. That is the best writing i did see so far
A couple of things people more attentive and smarter than me have pointed out or thought of: - Komugi, at the very end, was going over Meruem's face with her hand to know the shape of his face. It's probable she knew he wasn't human and it didn't bother her. I mean, why would it? - When Komugi first hesitated and talked about kokoriko and how she had to actually devise a way against it, she described it as having to kill off her own child. Considering Gungi is her life, you can tell she put a lot of pride and emotion in that strategy and having to utilize it's weaknesses to essentially make it irrelevant forevermore must have been painful. But through competing Meruem, and Meruem alone, she found a way to bring new life to kokoriko. In Komugi's words, it'd be their child.
I'm yet to see a HxH reaction to the end of this episode where the person watching doesn't break down in tears by the end. This episode is a masterpiece, I have been doing a re-watch of this series every year since 2014 when I originally watched it, it makes me ugly cry every single time...
*We were introduced to the ants as monsters. The King was born a monster.* *Then slowly, they became more human.* And like humans, some grew to become good, others to become evil. *And in the end, the King of the "monsters",* killed by one of humanity's cruelest creations, *got to die a person in the most human way: held by a loved one.* The greatest villain character arc I ever experienced 😭
"The story of a blind girl who tahght a god to see" absolute cinema (meruem is my favorite hunter hunter character, he amazingly well written, that episode breaks my heart every time I watch it)
05:13 "All three of them died off-camera." Pretty sure Pitou died in a fight with Gon that we witnessed. Died far from the King, but still on-camera. Then re-died as the animated corpse attacked Gon one last time. 16:22 Pretty sure nobody expected the arc to end this way. As much as I like the GI arc better overall, this ending was masterfully brought. Subverted many expectations in a great way.
Episode 135 is just really good, has one of the most heartbreaking and beautiful scenes you could watch in a series. That's why the Chimera ant Arc is so loved, not because of the heroic cool fights, not because they save the universe, it was because the characters, each single one of them take all the credit for making the Arc so good. I found it insanely great writing the poem of the real leader Diego, it just tell that Meruem didn't know anything about the world were he has been born. In the end he just wanted to be with the person he cared the most, even if it was for a short time.
The creator of Hunter X Hunter, Yoshihiro Togashi (also the creator of YuYu Hakusho, Level E, and husband of Sailor Moon creator Naoko Takeuchi), said in an interview that whenever he is writing an arc in Hunter X Hunter, he writes 3 different endings to the arc an ending where the heroes triumph an ending where the villains triumph and an ending where the heroes and villains resolve the conflict peacefully then, as the arc goes on, he gradually combines the best elements of each of the three endings that he thinks make for the most compelling narrative The Chimera Ant arc was the ultimate example of this
Dude, as a writer, I CAN'T express how HARD is to just "combine" different plans like this. Most of the times the elements just don't work in linear storytelling like this and demands A LOT of adjustments and the quality of the writing just makes it harder. Togashi is a master, the sacred monster of storytelling
When the manga chapter where Meruem revived after being hit by the nuke was released, the majority of people on forums mocked Togashi. They questioned the point of the nuke and wondered who could possibly defeat Meruem now. Another epic fight against him didn’t seem like it would be satisfying, and Meruem looked ridiculously overpowered at that point. Then, the following chapter was released, and everyone turned around and praised Togashi. As Hiatus x Hiatus fans, a bad chapter (if there even is one) is better than no chapter at all.
I am a sucker for shounen anime and shoujo anime (fighting and romance). For majority of the series, I had only seen this as a pure shounen, and I was content. However, the shoujo masterpiece of Komugi and Meruem never ceases to bowl me over and reduce me to a sobbing mess. I think I started to see hints of it during that episode when Meruem decides to end her life, goes to her room and finds the eagle attacking her viciously. When he tenderly takes her hand, scolds her for not asking for help and watches her cry while thinking, "what do I want to do with her?", I started to realise he's in love with her. Then, his amnesia being resolved and everything becoming light and being put into perspective when he hears her name made me cry, as well as Pouf acknowledging that his feelings for her were unstoppable. Lastly, his humbled nature of asking for Palm's help, kneeling to her in humility, repeating himself to Komugi and that intimate moment where he made himself vulnerable to her and she basically asks for his hand in marriage... Wow, I'm destroyed just thinking about all this again!! I never expected the greatest, most painful Shoujo fate to come out of such an exquisite shounen anime.
@tokinonagare4392 I had to translate this as I only speak English. But Meruem is the one trembling as he grasps Komugis hand, in that moment he's just a person fearing his impending death like anyone else. It being an issue of strength and hurting komugis hand wouldn't really work thematically for this scene.
@@Owneyone Thank you for your kind reply. Sorry, I mistakenly thought Komugi was scared and replied. It was true that he was afraid of death, so he asked him to hold her hand. It may be that Meruem's hand was shaking when he held it. Thank you for your new discovery
The more i watch the more i realise. Meruem never need to know his name if he want to. But he do so because of Komugi, maybe out of respect or something. No.2, Komugi crying happily shows that no ones cares for her that much except the supposed cruel Meruem. Damn, till this day no matter how many time I watch, i got teary eye. You guys might not agree with me, for me this is one of the best love story ever wrtten in manga/anime. Without even need to use romance to show love.
Hunter x Hunter is my second favorite anime. It's so different. I wish we could get more shows like this but it ain't gonna happen because this anime is one of a kind.
kokoriko or whatever u spell it represents muereum's fate where during the invasion the plan for the intruders were to seperate the king. however bc of the game he knew the counter from komugi and believed he would win. he revives after he plays again komugi finds a way to counter the counter for kokoriko where the king dies. at the end

Komugi(小麦) means wheat in English. Queen said“Meruem,it means the light that illuminates all“ While the light gives us grace, it is also a disaster that dries up and burns us up. Komugi grew up in the light (awakening) Wheat grew under light, and the light was given its meaning by wheat.

imo this is the most powerful episode that exists in anime. What a finale for one the greates arcs in anime history. Over a decade later still a masterpiece, always a masterpiece. Also Meruem dying like this is the best thing absolutely, they made a villain that seemed impossible to defeat, and in, fact, he never lost in battle, they didn't find some shitty plot device to make him lose like other anime, great great death.
I can't tell you how many times i've read this arc; how many times i've watched this episode. It doesn't matter the number of times i view it or what medium i view it i will cry every single time. No form of media has ever made me cry like this single moment of time between this monster that should have been irredeemable beyond measure and the little blind girl that gave him humanity.
Humanity defeated the king. Humanity defeated the king in two ways, through Komugi and through Netero. One was through a show of humanity's kindness, the other was through humanity's most horrible weapon of violence. However, the latter was unnecessary. The monster had already been destroyed. Violence was not needed to defeat the king, all that was needed was Komugi. All that was needed was human warmth and compassion. I really like the messaging here, it's really good. A nice twist on the classic beauty and the beast story, in a way. Love, was what slew the beast.
This story is so good. I love Meruem's character, he is really well made. You start the story loving Netero and ends hating how he is, he has nothing, his character is bad overall, he is not a Hunter, he is a dog. And you start hating Meruem, but end loving him.
Watching Chimera Ant arc sometimes reminds me of Anime "Parasyte Maxim". The plots are completely different, of course. But there's something about two different species trying to eliminate each other, yet still learning to understand or even care for one another, that brings it to mind. I already love HxH on its own, but that kind of storyline really hits my sweet spot, so this arc is especially close to my heart.
@@javiantay44 I sayx the Arc starts damn slow and people get bored at that point, but i think the moment it goes to the part where it starts out in the palace it gets very interesting again and hypes up to this point.
I found it tedious to get through the first time because it felt like it was going on forever with very little happening, but on rewatch it was so much better knowing that it actually is all for a reason.

To this day I still can't watch the ending to this episode without at least feeling like I want to cry. A big mistake that I made was watching these reactions on my break at work since everyone around me is staring at me like why do I look like I'm about to cry 😅😢
the final will break ur heart once more i guess. HxH is the really one of the best shounen. I watch a lot of animes but i didnt find any better meaningfull and deep scenes like meruem scenes. Meruem's death was an answer to the deep questions of meaning and existence that have been asked throughout the series. These questions make us think about our own lives, and Meruem's death causes these thoughts to intensify even more.
Yes but Meruem was never evil because his evil never came from him. He was born like that. It's the comparison between what we are at our birth and what we learn and become by growing. Meruem was evil because he knew nothing about the world, and his evil was purely animal instincts. Are animals evil because they kill each other to survive ? Are animals evil because they hunt ? Meruem is a very accurate comparison to what humans are in their true nature, without educations. He is only lead by instincts and that's how every living beings are when being born. But as time past, he experienced new things and learned. And what we learn is what makes the difference between instincts and humanity. Meruem learned morals, feelings, conscious of others. He lost his animal side to become a human. It's the same for all the rest of ants... They learned to be more and more humans, forgetting their animal side.
Incase u didnt pick up on what happened the king ended up going blind as he was dyinf which is why he asked if she was still there and in Komugis end she ended up getting her eye sight back to see Meruem.

Honestly one of the best arcs in anime in my opinion.
I'm pretty sure your not wrong
Here ends the best arc of HxH. The arc in which a monster who became a human out of love, and a human who became a monster out of hate.

But through competing Meruem, and Meruem alone, she found a way to bring new life to kokoriko.
In Komugi's words, it'd be their child.
Moves they play in Gungi signifies more in-depth meaning, read this if you want to cry more:
Kokoriko is an advanced Gungi technique developed by Komugi that centers around isolating the King (as in the Gungi piece, not the Chimera Ant), separating it from the other pieces and killing it off.
(its @jagmohanmandre7447 who tell me it :) )
"Didn't he kill a kid? He's evil."
He's 40 days old himself. He's very much a child, but one with the power of a god.
I'm yet to see a HxH reaction to the end of this episode where the person watching doesn't break down in tears by the end. This episode is a masterpiece, I have been doing a re-watch of this series every year since 2014 when I originally watched it, it makes me ugly cry every single time...
React Pack, but to be fair, they might have a bottom 3 reaction series for this amazing anime
*We were introduced to the ants as monsters. The King was born a monster.*
*Then slowly, they became more human.* And like humans, some grew to become good, others to become evil.
*And in the end, the King of the "monsters",* killed by one of humanity's cruelest creations, *got to die a person in the most human way: held by a loved one.*
The greatest villain character arc I ever experienced 😭
i cry everytime
Komugi's line "Though I may not be worthy, allow me to go with] you") is an old-fashioned way for Japanese women to accept a marriage proposal.
"The story of a blind girl who tahght a god to see" absolute cinema (meruem is my favorite hunter hunter character, he amazingly well written, that episode breaks my heart every time I watch it)
And thus ends, one of the most best and well written villains in anime, if not the absolutely most best written one to exist to this date.
05:13 "All three of them died off-camera."
Pretty sure Pitou died in a fight with Gon that we witnessed.
The creator of Hunter X Hunter, Yoshihiro Togashi (also the creator of YuYu Hakusho, Level E, and husband of Sailor Moon creator Naoko Takeuchi), said in an interview that whenever he is writing an arc in Hunter X Hunter, he writes 3 different endings to the arc
an ending where the heroes triumph
an ending where the villains triumph
and an ending where the heroes and villains resolve the conflict peacefully
then, as the arc goes on, he gradually combines the best elements of each of the three endings that he thinks make for the most compelling narrative
The Chimera Ant arc was the ultimate example of this
Dude, as a writer, I CAN'T express how HARD is to just "combine" different plans like this. Most of the times the elements just don't work in linear storytelling like this and demands A LOT of adjustments and the quality of the writing just makes it harder. Togashi is a master, the sacred monster of storytelling
@@niltondias5976 might explain why the later chapters took so long to make (that, and Togashi's health problems)
The comparison to the beginning of the arc is simply enormous.Meruem is simply one of the best antagonists.
What gets me is that you can kind of see the kings hand shaking as he holds Komugi's hand because he's scared.
I never notice that... holy molly.
メルエムの顔と手を優しく触っている事から怖がってるのではなく、震えている理由は「強く握った」のと「コムギが弱っていて震えてる」の二つだと思うのですが違いますか?
The story of how a blind girl taught a king how to see
The more i watch the more i realise.
One of the best arcs in anime. HxH will forever be a master piece. It is not like any kind of anime. It is simpmy unique.
Hunter x Hunter is my second favorite anime. It's so different. I wish we could get more shows like this but it ain't gonna happen because this anime is one of a kind.
Togashi a master class in character development
Meruem is how you kill an overpower character
kokoriko or whatever u spell it represents muereum's fate where during the invasion the plan for the intruders were to seperate the king. however bc of the game he knew the counter from komugi and believed he would win. he revives after he plays again komugi finds a way to counter the counter for kokoriko where the king dies. at the end

Komugi(小麦) means wheat in English.
Queen said“Meruem,it means the light that illuminates all“
While the light gives us grace, it is also a disaster that dries up and burns us up.
Komugi grew up in the light (awakening)
Wheat grew under light, and the light was given its meaning by wheat.

The best arc in anime finishes here❤️
imo this is the most powerful episode that exists in anime.
It breaks me everytime
God i love this anime
F me man. I even have Gon's name tattoo. Still cried 8am with the cofee. Great videos man, a hug from Spain.
This story is so good. I love Meruem's character, he is really well made. You start the story loving Netero and ends hating how he is, he has nothing, his character is bad overall, he is not a Hunter, he is a dog. And you start hating Meruem, but end loving him.
It's the first time the King actually repeated himself to Palm, even if he was saying "i wont repeat" or something like that
Watching Chimera Ant arc sometimes reminds me of Anime "Parasyte Maxim". The plots are completely different, of course. But there's something about two different species trying to eliminate each other, yet still learning to understand or even care for one another, that brings it to mind.
I already love HxH on its own, but that kind of storyline really hits my sweet spot, so this arc is especially close to my heart.
And people say this isn’t a good arc Because it’s “too slow”
HATERS! HATERS I TELL YOU!
@@javiantay44 I sayx the Arc starts damn slow and people get bored at that point, but i think the moment it goes to the part where it starts out in the palace it gets very interesting again and hypes up to this point.
Brainrot, people used to tiktok can't sit and watch a slow build up. They'll be dead if they watch most old anime
I found it tedious to get through the first time because it felt like it was going on forever with very little happening, but on rewatch it was so much better knowing that it actually is all for a reason.
It is slow
But it's 100% one of the best anime arcs out there.

To this day I still can't watch the ending to this episode without at least feeling like I want to cry. A big mistake that I made was watching these reactions on my break at work since everyone around me is staring at me like why do I look like I'm about to cry 😅😢
This part gets me every time.
I've been waiting for this episode! It always makes me cry, no matter how many times I've seen it 😭😭
And that's how Togashi created Anime 2
I forgot how sad this scene was
Lots of tears get shed to this one
At the end all dams brake and the flow of tears run to this day.
well... we reached the best episode of HxH
you finally reached this moment.
tis the only sad anime moment that doesnt hit as hard on first glance, but has DOT effects
the final will break ur heart once more i guess.
This is THE episode
aaaaah sweet thumbnail tears
No one can ever be the same after watching this arc 😅
Its time!
There is talk that some day they will do more seasons after the next. But that is they pick up and not do a full restart reboot of the anime
HxH is at hold at Mad House studio so yea, i guess they'll pick it up when manga finishes
no matter how many times i see this , i always cry
THE episode of HxH in my opinion.
Hello
Why hello you amazing beautiful people 0:00
th-cam.com/users/shortsZPUZ6c-fpoA?feature=share
Incase u didnt pick up on what happened the king ended up going blind as he was dyinf which is why he asked if she was still there and in Komugis end she ended up getting her eye sight back to see Meruem.
この回は悲しいからみんな本当は見たくないんよな
The episode that seperates real people, who are able to feel and cry.. from the fake people. Who cannot
