The Car Shown here is Maruti Suzuki Celerio VXI AMT (Optional) However the 7 points not only covers AMT specific driving requirements also it talks in general.
Disclaimer - These Suggestions are based on Individual Experience of Driving AMT cars on Hilly Terrain , This may not be applicable to CVT or DSG cars. Also These suggestions given are meant to share experience and are not bounding / challenge on anyone's driving competency.
I was driving my Swift AMT near ooty just after 2 months when i had purchased it . The outside temperature was around 15 degree . I was completely driving in Manual mode for about 20 minutes that too almost in first gear. i faced problem number 3 and 4 as described in the video. The sensor started beeping and i started smelling burning smell inside. Stopped the vehicle for 5 minutes and continued . I coudnt figure out what was wrong then , thanks for this video this helped me understand what was wrong . A MUST WATCH VIDEO FOR ALL AMT BUYERS. Cheers !!

Nice video sir. Point number 6. While overtaking AMT takes time but you can tap on accelerator paddle, it will go one gear lower and if you tap hard almost half of accelerator, it will shift two gears lower. Point 7. It is not recommended to use breaks and accelerator paddle with both legs in use, your brain gets trained with daily use and it might get confused with change in daily habits. Also chances of press both (breaks and accelerator ) same time might result unnecessary maintenance.
Thank you Sachin for taking out time in watching and commenting, I really value your opinion. coming to point no. 6 I must say that giggling with AMT car comes with experience, so is visible in your comments. I tried this in the early days of my driving this car, later on, I found shifting to manual while overtaking gives the required acceleration and power at the same time and that's what I suggested. Point No. 7 - Yes Indeed it's definitely not recommended to use both peddle at the same time but as and when the situation demands this is one of the options which can come handy. However you are right in saying mind gets trained to what you teach it, that is why in the video from 7:52 to 8:05 I have cautioned about it as well. Nevertheless, anyone who is reading this must know once again that creating a habit of such method of use is not at all recommended. I sincerely thank you Sachin for your comments.

I have new Maruti Dzire AMT 2017. Very good and comffortable to drive AMT Dzire even with full load of 5 peoples even on uphills roads. NO problem with AMT.
As said in video need to arn acceleration method which is somewhat different from manual transmission. U dont accelerate rashly in AMT.
AMT perform excellent with gradual acceleration and your proper patience.

Please note many zero star rated cars on indian roads do have more than 2 airbags, but their safety rating is very poor, latest example is Kia Carens. Its the engineering which makes the car safe and strong.

Hi Vinod thank you for taking out time in watching and commenting, while going Uphill Manual, Based on traffic conditions 1st or 2nd gears or if the roads allows then 3rd gear is also possible, However while going downhill never put vehicle in neutral and keep it in D mode also do take appropriate breaks so that break pads cools down regularly, while coming down breaks are used more than accelerator. Hope i was able to answer your query.

Bhai 7th point mere sath hua hai.. stuck in uphill traffic.. 😢 and all of a sudden that sign started blinking.. I had no idea at that time what is going on.. But I never faced this kinda problem in manual one..

What is the alternative if you should not keep both foots on brake and accelerator. If you don't apply brakes, car will roll back within fraction of milliseconds and hit back. I use both when parking my car in my house which has a ramp. So I press brakes and slowly press accelerator, and the again hold it with brake so it does not roll back. I do not think there is an alternative to this in ANT cars.

Can u please advise kwid amt dial transmission drive well in up hills.. I am very much confused.. Which car is batter for hills driving.. My choice is amt.. But kwid has only D & R mood.. Other car offer manual with automatic.. Please suggest..which one is batter??
Hi My_Experience , Thank you for watching and posting your query , You rightly highlighted that Kwid AMT does not have a feature of driving in Manual, However Other Tata or Maruti 's AMT does gives that ability. Therefore As per my understanding AMT would be a better choice , they both cost same .

Hi Shabbir , Thank you for Watching and Commenting , There is no such fixed Duration , You would need to judge your situation , Sometimes uphill journey is not steep , sometimes , it is , sometimes Traffic is more etc etc... the idea is not to let the break get heat up.

Answer to your question is partial no. The jerk is very soft compared to manual. If it the accelarator is pressed hard the gear down shifts and provides you more power.

Hi Aman, Thank you for taking out time in watching and commenting, Coming to your query i must admit that i am not aware of himachal pradesh's terrain , how hilly it is, but for sure i can conveniently say that AMT cars can be used for occasional hilly drive, for regular and daily usage manual is a better choice than AMT, by the way your car selection is excellent, nexon is the best value for money car available with 5 star safety rating , congratulations in advance.
Sir'Iam from kerala the problem is when climbing steep with right or left turn i cant control hand brake properly then iam using left leg to break some people say it would be burn the clutch

In such a situation instead of using both legs why cannot we use Manual mode /brake n accelerator
I m also celerio zxi amt 2018 owner in bangalore, yaha roads bahut up down hai, traffic mei car agar up side ho to back hone lagti hai, control karna thoda mushkil ho jata hai, fir break and accelerator ek sath manage karne hote hai quicky. this is minus point. hill assist ka feature missing feel hota hai in Amt

Coming to your Query , if the Fogg you are talking about is inside the car during Rains then switching on AC will do the needful. However in Winters you may use Heater available inside the car.

Hi Ankit , Thank you for Watching and Commenting . AMT is actually a Manual Car only , both has the same engine , the only difference is with help of technology they have automated the clutch , However CVT or DSG or DCT they are different technology all together.
I have not driven amt but hill road mein chadhai ke samay agar gadi neutral pe khadi hai to wo roll back nahi karti. Ye baat seahi hai na?

Coming to your second query i would say i have felt while driving on hills driver needs to be in full control of speed and acceleration. In D mode it is the processor which is guessing it and changing it for you which sometimes is incorrectly judged. Sometimes you need a small or little acceleration , but if you press hard car will accelerate accordingly.Hills have narrow space to maneuver, Hence full control of driver on vehicle is must. In manual mode , accidental acceleration does not happen as you drive in low gear 1st or 2nd only.

Hi , Apologies for such a late reply , By saying that i meant , break your journey in several parts , e.g. while going to ooty , one will face 36+ hairpin bends , i divided it into 3 parts and after 12 bends i used to take break , so you would need to gauge it yourself. Be it a slope or plane surface parking an AMT car is recommended with hand break only. Coming to your second Query ...it doesn't behave the same way manual cars do. Car will not stop .

The light you showed is actually steering warning light and not overheating ! Second thing you can control speed by putting in manual mode in low gear while going downhill, need not excess braking.,

Hi Priya, Thank you for taking out time in watching and commenting, Car models currently equipped with the Magneti Marelli AMT gearbox in India include Maruti Celerio, Maruti Alto, Tata Nano and Tata Zest. They all have the same transmission, Difference is safety rating , Tiago is only bs6 car which has 4 star safety rating among its competitor. Looks are personal choices. i would suggest go for a safer car.

In a video u have mentioned at 3.44 seconds that there is a sign of engine heating. I want to correct you. That sign is not for engine heat, that sign is for steering malfunctioning.

I was actually mentioning about that , but yeah you were right in highlighting. I Thank you for that. So to simplify anyone reading this should first check about the exclamation mark , if it is inside the circle then indication is about Auto gear Shift issue if its outside the circle its indicating issue with power steering . Hi Sahil , Thank you for watching and commenting , its a very nice question you have asked , i thank you for that , coming to your query , manual will be only help during such condition however there can be thousands of such situations and every situation is different so needs a different treatment , so driver would be the best one to decide on the action part , just make sure water should not get into silencer , what i do is if i see a waterlogged area i do not attempt myself to face it first , i wait for any commercial vehicle to pass and watch the pattern / path of driver , and then i will simply follow that .

However I am finding it difficult to answer as i am not able to understand , what exactly are you referring to ..by mentioning "Engine Breaking" in your comments. However the part which i was able to understand , let me Comment on that , I can say that speed you can control via breaks .
@@howzzthat By engine braking he meant, in manual cars, when driving downhill, you can keep your car in lower gear. This way your engine will keep your car slow. This is called engine breaking. So he was asking, if you keep the car in 2nd gear manual and drive downhill, will AMT also work the same way as a manual does?
Hi @@roshhack , Thank you dear , so to answer tushar's query i must say that driving downhill in drive mode there won't be any engine braking, if you don't want that you may use manual mode. while driving you are the best judge of your situation , switch modes accordingly .
Automatic mei manual mode gear 1/2 mei chala saktey ho ..downhill paar.

Hi Rohini, Thank you for taking time in watching and commenting, You may check our video made for deciding on between manual or AMT. However i am not aware of himachal's terrain , therefore it would be safe to suggest you to go for Manual. and one more thing , while buying ask them to give in writing which month the car has been manufactured (Dont confuse it with the model year ), because the vehicle made in December will be sold in jan , this will impact you resale price few years down the line.

i have a baleno cvt . i belong to plains but currently driving it in dharmshala. i miss the fun of driving my car in mountains i must say. its very sluggish on climbs. i feel automatics are not for mountains/hills. buy manual instead as you belong to darjeeling.

You can buy an AMT car and use the manual mode while on steep climbs. On normal climbs AMT will mange itself

Recently I had similar problem while driving uphill (2hrs drive). Ahead of destination the AGS warning lamp began to flash with beep sound. The oil level in transmission fluid tank was near low level unexpectedly parallel to dropping coolant level. How do I manage this situation in future. Kindly throw some light.
Hi Hariram , Thank you for watching and commenting , Apologies for delay in reply , i am glad to find that you and your loved ones were safe , Letting the vehicle cool down in such a situation is best you can do , give your vehicle proper breaks , never drive in length during uphill or downhill . A Car is enjoyable only till the time it doesn't gives troubles , you take care of it , and in return it will take care of you.
