Also the biggest improvements are the variable speed trigger and the larger control panel, if you can get the XGT for a good deal and have extra batteries already, it's well worth it. But not for $500 retail.
I got the Makita XGT powerhead and pole saw attachment free with the 19 inch XGT lawn mower. But the deal has since ceased. The variable speed trigger is very smooth without any stair stepping effect. Only issue is the 2 second shutdown of not holding trigger/safety in. Agree on the trimmer head to an extent. The main thing is that the line sits quite high from the ground. Leaves you rotating/twisting a lot to get the line lower.
I run two 8 ah in XGT mower and the two 5 ah on blower and powerhead.
I have the XRU23, an 18v model with variable speed and a speed feed type head. It is one of their newer 18v models I believe and I did choose it over the other models specifically because of the variable speed trigger. Never had a problem with the head releasing line. My only problem is I wish the guard was bigger, my pants are totally green every time I do my yard. Wonderful unit overall though
Oddly enough the 18v models have a great head and work fine.
Now we only need a review of 7 other types of xgt trimmers :D yeah the lineup is brutal, hard to choose and know what are the differences exactly. I see you prefer models with motor in the head, not in the base
I used to work for a sthil dealer and they always hated the power heads there, I prefer the simplicity of the motor directly driving the string.
@@UltimateToolReviews yeah they are simpler for sure
