    Yep
    Awesome
    I purchased a combo powerhead makita set about a year ago
    Yep
    Expensive but worth it
    Awesome to use
    Light & powerful with semi auto feed head & loading is simple now
    Better than petrol if you have enough batteries ( i have 8 x
    5 amp batteries which i use on my mower & power tools as well )
    I purchased the large makita battery mower with 4 blade mulching &
    4 batteries & a free blower
    All awesome as well
    I have 1/4 acre
    it does a great job

    I appreciate the comment about how do landscapers manage to do their work during the summer heat.. Being a small landscape business owner myself I can tell you it's pretty hard. But lately the heat is really getting to me and I simply can't take it anymore. My solution for the last 2 seasons has been the following... I've cut down the number of clients knowing it will cut into my income. This way, during the hot days I work part time. Usually I start at 7AM (that's why I've been transfering more and more to the battery operated machines that are much more quiet and therefore I can start the work early), and work till 10 AM. And then I put in another 2-3 hours late in the afternoon, definitely after 6 PM. That's about 5 hours of work during the summer. The grass is usually much more dormant and daylight ends after 9 PM. So I make most of the money during the spring rush then slow down during the summer and then pick up some slack again in September. The season usually ends mid November and starts in mid to late February...

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really did mean it. The heat this summer has been brutal. That day was really hot and humid, and I was useless after I got done. Getting older don't help either. I always say that getting old isn't for sissy's. As far as this powerhead goes, it is one of my favorite purchases. For homeowner use, I don't see why anyone would need any more. As a professional I think it could get the job done, but having access to multiple batteries would be a necessity depending on how many clients you had in one day. I just got my new pole saw attachment for it today, so I should have another video coming out soon on that. Thanks for watching, and have a fantastic weekend.

    I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use th-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

    Great video and battery test! I bought this unit in a massive kit yesterday for an overgrown deceased estate garden/jungle. Cost me $1200 Australian. Got the 36v 14inch chainsaw too $500. Working between the 2 units allowed dead batteries to be charged on the twin rapid charger almost as fast as they were depleted.. which honestly took some cutting. Highly recommend this gear. The pole saw was very handy! The chainsaw is a weapon. I am not a professional but like getting the right tool for the job.. and have no regrets spending 1.5k on this stuff yesterday.. i relieved $200 store credit to put towards the chainsaw and also as a sweetener I have a $250 blower on the way via redemption and received a bonus brushcutter attachment.. so that takes the sting out of it a little. My advice is if you're looking for a kit like this wait untill a sale or tax time when bonuses are included. Last year I got their 18v grinder free with a drill set. Makes up for the price somewhat 👍🏻

    Beware the DUX60 head with 2 x 6AMP batteries and this EN401MP attachment are very heavy! I had to trim about 20-25m long hedge (only one side and top) and my hands were already falling off half way through it hence had to look for the strap as otherwise would not be able to finish. You really have to have very strong hands or use the strap from the start although there's no position adjustment on the head for better balance with different length/weight attachments. I had to use a cheap corded hedge trimmer because about 85% into the job my 5 year old batteries finished. Apart from that the combo is superb quality and performance! However, I might just get the slightly lighter EN410MP for trimming sides or another dedicated lighter corded trimer and keep the EN401MP for trimming hedge tops and anything that would normally require a ladder.

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree with you. Love the hedge trimmer because it is so robust and well made. But it gets really heavy, really fast. I have to use it with the extension pole to do the top of my umbrella tree and cringe at the thought every time. Luckily it is only 2-3 times a year. Smaller batteries do help a little, but not much. I can't say that it is any worse then the gas power head I was using before though.

      @@DevaultFamilyLivingI came across a couple of reviews recommending the EN410MP (just ordered it) for trimming anything up to 1.8m height but obviously the EN401MP will come in handy with anything that's higher than that.

      Unfortunately the tool attachments are incredibly expensive. For example the XUX01 power head (bare tool) is 250-280$. And each attachment, from the weed wacker to hedge trimmer to edger, will run you from 200$ upwards. I would advise people to buy the regular Makita 36V weed wacker and a hedge trimmer separately. I usually edge lawns with the weed wacker/grass trimmer and the results are almost the same as with a dedicated edger with a blade. And the hedge trimming is much easier to do with a hedge trimmer because of the weight. Also the weed wacker is lighter than this power head with the trimmer attachment.. Sure, this combo system is convenient but I doubt you'll be saving money by buying the power head and all the attachments...

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markbrisec3972 I agree that the unit, nor the attachments are very cheap. For me it was a matter of storage space. I have 2 small sheds in my urban home and need to utilize my space as best as possible. I do have a garage, but use that more like living space as I spend a lot of time out there year round tinkering around. With that said, I don't regret buying it at all. I really enjoy using it. Far better then the gas powerhead that I had prior to this unit. It is actually one of my favorite Makita tools. I can definitely respect where you are coming from though. That’s a nice trimmer, but man the price :( I have lots of makita tools, and Milwaukee. Love em both. Love my makita rear handle 36v circ saw, and trim router. But when it came to getting a new string trimmer with edger I went with the Milwaukee fuel quik loc and couldn’t be happier. The edging attachment was only 99.00 and that’s a non sale price, I got the power head with trimmer attachment, rapid charger, and 8ah hd battery for 200, now that was a sale price. So basically I got everything for 300 all together. I wish it had the reverse feature though. The hedging attachment is 179 though, pricy. But I am very impressed with the power on the Milwaukee, and I’m sure the makita is great as well. My tool box and garage are red, and teal with a little puke green mixed in lol nice review

      The price definitely isn't very appealing. Not for the power head, and for most of the attachments either. If I had not already had so many Makita tools, I would not have bought their yard equipment due to the pricing of everything. I may break into the Milwaukee line for my cabin property, and may even get a few Dewalt tools. At least that way I won't be locked into one system. I will say that with the exception of one tool, I have been very happy with all of my Makita tools. There is something to be said for that. It depends on the attachment that is on it. The edger is a little heavier then the string trimmer, and the hedge trimmer is heavier yet. If you are using it for just the string trimmer, then it isn't bad. The power head unit is about 11lbs without the batteries. With two 5ah batteries and the string trimmer attachment, I would "guess" it to be right around 14-16 lbs. With the hedge trimmer attachment I would "guess" between 18-20lbs.

    Has anyone done a head-to-head of this ecosystem vs the Ego? Looking at both right now. I like that there are 3rd party batteries available for the Makita, and I've always liked Makita tool quality. The Ego batteries are extremely expensive, but I do love the auto-feed trimmer. I have not see a head to head personally, but I am sure that one of the big channels probably has a comparison on several brands. You really have to watch some of the 3rd party batteries. I have found that the Waitley brand is about the best aftermarket brand as far as run time, but i haven't tried them all obviously. I have had some other brands that were complete garbage though. I don't think I have ever timed it per say. I can pretty much do all my edging, weed wacking, and trim my trees on one set of batteries and have 30 percent or so left over with the aftermarket batteries used in the video. If I run Makita brand batteries, I do get longer run times. Making an educated guess, I would say you could get a solid 25-35 minutes of run time depending on which power setting you had it on and how much of a load the powerhead is under.

    Where do you get that batteries?

      Amazon is where I bought them. Been a few years though. Not sure if they still have that exact brand but I am sure they have something very similar.

    Does anyone know how many extension poles it’ll take for the pole saw attachment

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  ปีที่แล้ว

      The pole saw will attach directly to the powerhead unit which would give you the length of about a string trimmer. Each extension would give you an additional 38" - 42" of reach.

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  ปีที่แล้ว

      Misread your comment. I have not tried more them one extension, but I would have to believe as many as you can attach. You will loose torque with every extension that you add though. Hope that helps.

      @@DevaultFamilyLiving thanks for that. I appreciate you answering me. I couldn’t find the answer anywhere. Best to ask someone that already owns the unit. I plan to use 3 or 4 extensions.

    It is nice, but price of "heads" is insane. You can have the whole tool for price of "heads" :(

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree. Pricing is crazy expensive. I think the edger and the hedge trimmer were only like $100 less then the power head itself. I don't have a big shed for storage though, so it was a better option for me in that respect. Thanks for watching.

      The pricing, and more importantly the postage/shipping fee of the attachments was a non starter for me.
      I did have Makitas dedicated 36v string trimmer, an 18v edger and a 36v long hedger already … the one thing I wanted was the pole saw… but, I’ve just ordered the new 14ft telescopic polesaw unit in the 36v platform.

      Yes has anyone changed or try to change their Makita 36 volt trimmer head to the Echo 400 rapid reload head or to any other better head ?
      I bought the Makita rapid reload head but it sucks.

      You will have to forgive me, I don't know how to translate, but I think that you are looking for the price. Currently the price is $269.00 American on Amazon for the tool only (no attachments, or batteries). I hope that helps you. Thank you for watching.

    It looks like the battery drains out too quickly

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those 2 batteries did everything that it takes to do my entire yard. Weed wacking, edging, and trimming all my shrubs & umbrella tree, and still had roughly a 3rd of the battery life left. Also the fact that they are aftermarket batteries should be considered. With two 6ah Makita brand batteries, it generally has about 2 bars left on each battery (I am guessing about 40 -50 percent). Now I don't have a huge yard, but it is a average city sized lot. That is pretty decent in my opinion. Just curious, what would you consider a adequate run time?
