Quite interesting to those of us who have vintage hooks. It's very clear why making a gauge swatch is so important.
Good point! 💕💞
Thank you for the vintage hooks comparison. Very interesting that there is a difference is size over the years.🥰
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video!
So interesting! I'd think that vintage crochet patterns would benefit from these modern measurements. Thank you!
Ooh, good thinking! My brain hadn't made that leap 😅😆💕
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing
My pleasure! 💕💞
Loved this video, Mary 🥰🧶
I have a number of aluminium and steel hooks that are unmarked and come in a lovely shade of boring grey, but they do have very tapered heads like those vintage hooks. The mystery continues… 😅
Aren’t those colours lovely and I do love hearing that ✨clink✨ when they come into contact. Crocheters are an odd breed at times, aren’t we 😂?
Also LOVE the fact that the price was stamped onto the hook! Not surprising that that went out of fashion 😅
Fantastic seeing your collection grow 🥰❤ Xx
Lee, you beauty! We crocheters are a unique set, I agree - the craft selects for certain personalities, doesn't it! 😂 Yes, the price stamps are definitely a reminder of kinder days 😂 There are a few products around here with prices stamped on the label - a certain brand of tortilla chips, for instance - because they don't want their customers to be gouged. It's not the norm 🤑 Mystery hooks still make gorgeous pieces! I look forward to the next time I get a peek at what yours have been creating! Stay cozy down there! 💞💕
😢 when you see 'vintage hooks' but they are the ones you grew up with... am I that old?!? Oh no... 😢
Don't feel bad! The clothes I wore in high school are back in style now, so you're not alone! 💕💗
Wow - thanks for this video - very interesting how the hooks have changed. Don't know if anyone else has noticed but lately when I have gone to Joann's and Michaels craft stores, I checked out their crochet hooks, the hook ends are very sharp - not sure why - unless it's because they are not packaged - I would be afraid it would keep catching the yarn and maybe shreeding it a bit! Any thoughts? Thanks! :-)
My only thought is, "They don't make 'em like they used to!" I think most modern hooks are made overseas, so the molds (or whatever they use) are different. It takes a real sleuth to figure out what companies have combined and what happened to production! Maybe one day I'll have the time for more extensive research! 😄💗
Interesting....I once listened to crystal (bag o day) talk hooks. I found out from her that I have a somewhat valuable HERO hook, size H. Who knew? But it's fascinating to us crochet junkies, huh?
It sure is! It's amazing to see how our tools have changed over time. Other art forms, like calligraphy and woodworking and even playing instruments, have highly specialized tools, and sometimes "they just don't make 'em like they used to". I love that crochet does, too! 💓💞
I have a Boye hook labeled as K/101/2-6.50mm, any idea when that might have been made?
Hmm, my guess would be the 1980s onward, but I can't be sure! It depends on the shape of the hook head, too.
Wait, those are vintage?? I just gave away a whole bunch of them for free! 🤣
Your generosity made someone very happy, I'm sure! 😄💞
