That shawl is amazing and I would love a tutorial!!! I have been binge watching you to cheer myself up . Thank you so much for being wonderful ❤
Enjoy time with your family
I don’t feel so bad with all my WIPs after seeing yours. I try to not have so many on the hook at a time but it seems inevitable that I do. I can see several of yours come to fruition in just a short time. I like your Christmas in July sweater idea. Anxiously await the finished product.🥰
Hi Mary! You seem like a multi tasking crocheter to me. I'm working on a Crystal BOD shawl too! And I bought another shawl pattern from Kristin Omdahl I'm excited about. Both are elongated triangles as I imagined but couldn't perfect. Peace and Blessings to you 🌱🌻🧶
It was cute but reminded me of Little House on the Prairie 😊
Yes!! I agree! Very Laura Ingalls Wilder! 😂❤️
I'm so glad I'm not the only one with "flops!" I'm currently frogging TWO different projects directly into a Monet garden inspired giant granny square blanket. I might join you in an ugly Christmas in July sweater CAL! 😍 cheers!
High fives across the Internet! 🤜🤛 Much as I hate to frog, I hate putting in all the effort and disliking the results even more. How fun would that be for you to join me in making an ugly Christmas sweater?! 💞💗
@@slowcrochet (going to my yarn stash) 😄
Oh man, it can be so frustrating when every project seems to flop. Well done you for soldiering on and switching things up to bring back your joy and crojo 💕👏 ANOTHER MARY CHRISTMAS SWEATER ❤🎄💚!!! Wooooo!!! My fave kind of Christmas sweater 🥰 I’m not very familiar with plush yarn either, so it’s going to be really cool to see how they mesh and make friends with the worsted. Loving the mix ‘n match of colours and textures already 🙌 Ouuuuu your sidewalk chalk shawlette is gorgeous! Really, really loving that colour mix 😍 And another fab hat on the way. Mary, I know it may be a tad overwhelming for you to have so many WIPs on the go, but as a friend, you are ticking all of my ‘Mary project’ boxes this week 💕😂 Have a wonderful 4th of July ❤💙🤍 Xx
Lee, I wish I could bottle the reaction I have when I see your comments. Such joy would bring peace to the Middle East. You sure know how to brighten my day! Not for the last time, I'm wishing we were closer. You are a precious gem! 💕💎
@@slowcrochet Back ‘atcha 💞
I love shawls too!!!! But mine are all knitted. I am crocheting these days but still’perfecting’ my stitches. I LOVE these patterns! Can a novice crocheter make them? I mostly do bags, Freeform crochet, and Amigurumi so lots of single crochet.
I would say a newer crocheter could definitely do the second one, "Crochet It For You"! If you know how to do the basic stitches (chain, slip stitch, single, double, and double two together), I'd say you could tackle most of them! You may surprise yourself! 💗❤️
We are a house divided when it comes to okra lol. I’m not a huge fan 😂
I understand! It is really polarizing 😂 My husband wasn't a fan at first, either, but I converted him 😂
Ella from No catchy name TH-cam goes to waterfalls, she lives in TENNESSEE ,have a nice day
Yes! She and I live a little ways apart and both stay home with our kids, but one of these days we will have to get together! ❤️💗
Thanks for doing the summer tag Mary! 💜☀️
My pleasure! Thanks for hosting it! 💗💕
Oh yes! Southern summers as a child and when my children were little is just magical-long days of playing and looking at the stars at night. It’s the best! Don't blink. 💛
I'll try to remember that when the mischief levels are through the roof 😂❤️💕
Thank you for your thoroughness, Mary! Can you feel the difference in density and is there a difference in the texture in your opinion? I have some trouble with lanolin in wool so I usually have to avoid it. 😔
You know, I think the recycled feels a bit smoother, but I'm planning a project with it, so I'll be able to give a better account then. As far as I've seen, it's only Lion Brand's Fisherman's Wool that distinctly says that there may be some lanolin still in the yarn. I would imagine that the recycling process only further refines the fibers. Great question, though! Love connecting with you! 💚💚
@@slowcrochet oh that's great information! I might grab one skein of the recycled next time to see if it causes irritation; if I'm not in love I have people in my life that would benefit from the warmth. I have a great time chatting in the comments too! 😊
Love your answers to this, Mary! I love so many of those things as well. I'll have to head to a farmer's market and prepare okra that way!
I need to get to our market, too! I've been a little lax on my duties, but I've also been waiting til I think we've had the weather for it to come in. 😂 What other things do you like from your farmer's market?
@@slowcrochet we often start our dinners with a pile of radishes, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and parsley or cilantro. It's a tradition where my husband is from and I fell in love with it! 😍 thank you for asking!
@@anntally7503 That sounds delicious! What a wonderful family tradition!
Hi Mary, it was nice to get to know you better. I'm a Alabama girl. Lived close to Mobile. I remember the storms we had but I don't favor them. Love watermelon. I can still remember the watermelon man coming by on his big truck and yelling "watermelon " and then he would stop and cut open one and let you test it out before you bought one, and we always got one😊 but my favorite fruit is sugarcane. We use to grow it and it was so good. I do remember the fireflies and there was alot of them. Good memories. I live in Ohio now. What I love about Ohio is the beautiful leaves that we have in the fall. We didn't have that in the south, but what I miss is the pecans, they were everywhere. Ok, I know the questions was about summer but I got carried away. This was fun.😊😊
What a beautiful part of Alabama you called home! Thank you for sharing your precious memories. I felt like I was there with you! We don't have a watermelon man, but there's a farm that has a peach truck, and you see it parked around town, and it's always important to stop and buy some fresh peaches. They are divine! Thanks for reminding me to keep an eye out! 😆💓💞
Summer in the AZ desert is like having a reverse "snow day". If you don't have a place to be in water, you pretty much hibernate in the ac when possible. Love the summer storms though! Sweet, juicy watermelon, family dinner night with pool volleyball, rain on pavement......
Ahh, I bet playing in the rain during the summertime is just wonderful in AZ! I imagine pools come standard with most homes! 🧡🧡
Living in the desert, having wool anything does not sound appealing 😂
You know, I recently saw some historical dressmakers testing wool and cotton and all those layers for heat - I think it was in AZ! I'll see if I can find it... th-cam.com/video/0wHTgi51z6I/w-d-xo.html But I don't blame you for steering clear of wool in the desert! 💖💖
Thank you for taking the time to share this --its not something I would think to test, myself, but do appreciate having the information.
My pleasure - thanks for taking the time to say so! 💗💖
Thanks for sharing
You're welcome! Thanks for taking the time to comment! Means a lot! 💓💞
Great getting to know you a little better. 🥰
Aw, thanks, darlin'! 💗💗
I’m not a big fan of Wool ease and have not used it for years. It was interesting that although they say they are both 4 weights, the recycled was a little thinner than the regular. That could be because the standard number of loops per inch overlap in numbers. Were the prices the same?
Yes, I find it interesting that the Craft Yarn Council's guidelines have some overlap, leading to a bit of ambiguity or confusion. I found the recycled at Wal Mart for under $4, and the regular I picked up for a good discount at JoAnn's, I think. Lion Brand's website lists the recycled for $1 more than the regular. Thanks for your thoughts! 💗💗
Your projects are beautiful! I love the hats and shawl! ♥️ That would be so cool if you enter some things in the fair! I did not notice the dye lot difference, but I think your plan for the sweater is a good one 😊
Thank you, sweet Jessie! I actually ran into a lady at JoAnn's yesterday - YES, friend, I went looking for clearance yarn after you inspired me - anyhow, she told me how to find out more definitively about which fair I qualify for, so I'll follow up and try to get some pieces together to enter! :-D
@@slowcrochet You’re welcome! Lol 😄I hope you were able to find some clearance at your store. Awesome! Looking forward to the follow up about the fair! 😃
Hi Mary 🤗 this was very interesting…thank you for sharing! 🥰🧶🤩
Hi sweet Litsa! Thanks for your kind words! 💗💗
Hi Mary 🤗 wow! Nashville Tennessee sounds like an awesome place in the Summertime! ☀️🥰🧶🤩
Ahh, I'm biased, but it is! 😂💗 No beaches, though, so you've got me beat there! 💓💓
@@slowcrochet …but you have waterfalls! 👏🏻👏🏻☀️🥰🧶🤩
I’ve used wool ease thick and quick but have not used either of those. I agree that the recycled one looks more like a 3 weight yarn. I enjoyed learning about the wraps per inch! Thank you for sharing! ♥️😊
Ah, I am always tempted when I see Thick & Quick. It comes in such gorgeous colors! Glad I could shed some light on wraps per inch! 💗💗
Hi Mary! It was fun getting to know more about you! I caught fireflies when I was young too and I also love summer storms 😊
Fireflies are just so magical, aren't they! The best part as a child is getting to stay up late enough for them to come out! 😆💓💓
@@slowcrochet They are so magical! Lol and yes that was the best part 😄
Yay for okra. =) I love okra, too. I make it how my grandmother fixed it, but it’s kinda wordy to describe. - Gardenia, honeysuckle, and magnolia are my scents of summer. =) (And for some weird reason, the smell of a window AC unit running. Haha. Childhood leaves its mark on your olfactory system. =) )
I bet your grandmother's okra is phenomenal. I pretty much love it every which way. Oh, magnolias... Could there be a more elegant tree, in every way? Yes, childhood scents do bring us back. Fresh sawdust always brings me back to my grandfather's wood shop! 💘💘
The beach is a must in hot and humid NW PA. Presque Isle State Park in Erie PA is like an imitation ocean. Potato salad and watermelon are my favorite summer foods. My favorite summer smell is the wild roses. They don't look like much, but their sweet aroma wafts in the nighttime open windows of summer while I'm sleeping. We can watch the storms roll in here too. Giant thunderheads with lightning shooting through them is amazing. Once in a while we have a nighttime fire and food with our grown children. Sometimes I need a crocheted shawl on those chilly nights.
You have a beautiful way with words! I felt like I was there with you, experiencing those roses and those storms! Thank you for sharing your beautiful heart! 💗💗
I've never used either of these yarns. I don't trust any yarn until it's washed and dried. Some yarns change dramatically after laundering.
That is so true! I've used the original Wool Ease over the years and enjoyed it, but I can't remember the last time I needed to wash any of them! I'll try to remember to let you know if or when I do! 💗💗
I love juicy watermelon and the smell of cut grass. I love the feel of the sand at the ocean with bare feet and the constant sound of ocean waves. Ah Summertime!
Oh, the ocean! Our closest salt air is at least an 8 hour drive away. We have to settle for sound machines for waves 😂💗
I learned something new today! I have never heard of the wraps per inch. Thank you!
You are so welcome, Ms. Betty Lou! ❤❤
Very nice❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks, darlin'! 💗❤️

Your shawl is beautiful! I just went to the library today. Looked but didn't bring home a crochet book...yet.
Thank you, Ms. Janna Kay! Hooray for libraries! Even when we travel, we like visiting them! :-)
I love your hats! I think you'd do well at the fair! I love entering mine. Ours is a lot smaller, I'm sure. I've always wanted to go to the state fair, but haven't gotten the chance yet.
I haven't been to the state fair since it moved locations, but I went to it when it was just for that county. That was years ago, when I was single and could still stay up late lol. If I had a choice, I'd prefer a smaller one like yours!
I think I cannot see a noticeable difference. Mainly because the yarn has marling or heathering in it.
Ah, thank you for saying so! It makes a difference to have a different set of eyes on it! I appreciate you! ❤️💗
2:55 Yes! Crochet colorwork would be awesome!!! Please enter it! You did an amazing job!
Thank you for cheering me on, Marquita! I always love hearing from you! Did y'all get crazy storms last night?
I love your hats! When doing color work you can twist the float on the back every designated stitch of your choosing. I don't think there will be a problem with the sweater. I think that because you knew the dye lots were different you were looking for that. Had you just seen someone else's work you may not have noticed. Your solution sounds fine to me.
Thank you for your perspective! I think you're right - I'm a bit sensitive to the color change because I'm aware of it, and others won't be watching for it. Thank you for your tips on colorwork, too! I appreciate you!
I like the snowflake beanie! Make the sweater a colorblock style sweater maybe? The front all one skein and then a sleeve of that same and since the other skein is quite different, make the other sleeve out of that yarn.
I like that though process, Ms. Betty Lou - be intentional about the placement of each skein so even if it is noticeable, it at least looks purposeful. Subtle colorblocking! Love it! 💞💕
Loving your podcasts, Mary! Your projects are beautiful and I enjoy following your progress on them. 🩵🧶🩵
Aww, thanks so much for taking the time to encourage me! 💕💗
Love to browse my library crochet books. Interesting on the alpaca twist sweater. I would agree with you to separate the lots, because it would bother me too ha! Love the shawls and I would love tutorials!
Thank you so much! You know, even the older crochet books at the library have a lot of treasure! I'm glad to hear you enjoy them as much as I do!
Oh, Mary, that hat is beautiful and sure to win a first-place blue ribbon. I think a shawl tutorial is a great idea! Have a great day! 🤟🏻
Thank you, Marsha! You really are a ray of sunshine! 💞❤️
I think your plan for the sweater dye lots is a great solution!
Thank you! So glad to have that feedback! 💕💞
Mary, are you wearing a snood? Do you happen to have a tutorial for it?
Ah, that is a beret! I modified the "Phannie" pattern, I believe! 💕 I don't have a tutorial for it since it's not an original design. 😅💕
I absolutely love the color way of the green and gray behind you.
Thank you so much! ☺️💞
Thank you from the UK
You're so welcome! 💕💗
Hi Mary 🤗 wow your beret and your beanie are gorgeous! I would love a tutorial on the shawl, when time permits of course! Hmm 🤔 I don’t really see a difference in colour…but I think your solution is awesome! 👏🏻👏🏻 you know you’re going to start the sweater…so why even ask 🤣 have fun! 🥰🧶🤩
Ahh, I'm so glad the color difference isn't noticeable! And... Yes, you know me well! Gauge swatch for the granny sweater is in the works! 😆💕
Wait, those are vintage?? I just gave away a whole bunch of them for free! 🤣
Your generosity made someone very happy, I'm sure! 😄💞
Love the beret and beanie. I think you were very creative in making the beanie with the design going all the way around. Looking forward to seeing all your finished WIPs…even the granny sweater you’re contemplating making.🥰
Thank you so much! You are so encouraging, and i appreciate you! That granny sweater is calling my name 😂😂
I LOVE the color work hat. It's just gorgeous. I couldn't see the color difference in the sweater on my screen. I made a shawl before with Redhart burgundy. One skein was not the same dye lot. It didn't really show unless you were in the sun. One other time I had trouble with Redhart Burgundy. It was not suppose to have a dye lot, but some of it was made in Turkey, and one skein was made in India. Even the weight was not the same. Now I pay close attention to what I'm buying.
We live and learn, don't we! Yes, I've noticed not all Red Heart is the same weight, even when it's the same color and the same store. It's the little things, isn't it! I'm so glad you couldn't see a color difference on my sweater! That makes me feel a lot better! 💗💗
