The color you have on is a summer color. Those winter swatches are meant to represent icy pastels, which are far more saturated than your sweater. Color is more than just the hue, it’s also chroma (brightness) and value (darkness). So the swatches you paired with your items didn’t match. I was honestly shocked when you concluded you’re a spring because of all the clothing you showed as well as what you’ve made, I don’t think there was a single item that had spring color qualities. 😅 I assume that came from a mix of your self assessment as warm and not having dark hair.
Thank you so much for that perspective! That is really fascinating to consider, especially with such a strong emotion as shock! :-) I think you highlighted some of the challenges with color season self-assessment, or even the general subjectivity of it, not to mention the limitations of say paint swatches, device screens, yarn colors, or even individual differences in our perception of color. I understand some have expanded color seasons beyond the original 4 and are up to - what, 12? 16? I'm looking for print literature on the subject, so any recommendations you have would be wonderful! Ultimately, I'm exploring the reasons why some of my yarny makes feel "off", and I'm so thankful you took the time to comment so I can think about things differently! I appreciate you!
I AM SO GLAD YOU ARE BACK! HALLOOO! You dont need to make many videos, do it when you feel for it and we are still here even if you just make a few videos every year🥰
Aww, thanks so much! That means the world to me! 🩷
Cozyyyyyyyyyyy! Me: sitting in front of the laptop on the kitchentable crocheting and watching your husbands masterfilming
Ahh, I will pass along your compliments to him! He is fulfilling his dream of being a filmmaker - he just never thought it would be for a crochet channel! 😂❤️
I am in my 70s and I remember when that book came out. I was selling Avon and learned about color pallets. Long ago 🤣
You were a pioneer! Love that the ideas are still going strong and helping folks like me think in new ways! 🩷🩷
I'm making my first shawl at 62. C2c in Lions brand Mandala Baby in the colored Echo caves. Started off as a baby blanket, and the more I handled and worked with it, the more I loved it. Pulled your video up to see your ideas. I love the way you can change how you wear them. Thank you.
Congratulations on your first shawl! It sounds like the perfect match of yarn and pattern! I’m so glad my video is helping you think of ways to style it! ❤️❤️
I love the sneak peek into your cozy evening and the vlog style footage! I think you’ve mastered cozy!
Thank you for the idea, my friend! About to pop over and see your take on the topic! 💕
@@slowcrochet You're very welcome!
Curious about the chocolate chip cookies from the video? They were my first attempt at this recipe - search "Honeysuckle Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies" if you don't want to click links, or if you do, here it is: th-cam.com/video/f-M3JN_7LGU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=InY2NTaeDekCRf5R
Hi Mary 🤗 Aww your little cozy crochet corner looks very comfy! Love the candle & the cookies, they add to the ambiance! Your husband did a great job! 👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you for sharing your home with us, my friend! 🥰🧶🤩
It really makes it feel like we're close enough to be neighbors, doesn't it, sweet Litsa! Those cookies were a new recipe, and they have quickly become a favorite. Do you use metric or imperial measurements to bake? I know the UK goes back and forth on some things... not sure if it's the same with Australia... I'll pass along your compliments to my husband! Big hugs! 💞💞
@ Hi Mary 🤗 yes, it does feel like we’re neighbours and have known each other forever! 🙏🏼 We predominantly use metric for measuring & weighing…but I still use feet & inches for my height 🤷🏻♀️ best of both worlds, I guess! 🥰🧶🤩
I love how you picked out your favorite clothes to wear. That is a great thing to do, not just with color, but style as well. Moving fairly often has helped me with cleaning out my closet, but I would recommend doing it that way. 😂
Nothing like moving across the ocean to make you realize what's really important :-) As I continue this adventure into crochet x style, I'll have to look at silhouette and fit next! :-)
Just the video I wanted. Thanks!
Ahh, I am so glad! Thank you for taking the time to say so!
The way this was filmed you can feel the love light. Such a welcoming, cozy corner! I can't help but feel a sense of peace. Thank you!
Awww, thanks, dear heart! Josh and I don't immerse ourselves too much in one another's worlds - we talk about them with one another, but only rarely get involved. It was really sweet filming with him, and I'm glad you could pick up on that sweetness! Love you! 💗💗
So cozy! I love it! 🥰
Thanks for keeping me company that evening, beautiful friend! 💖
Hi Mary! Love your video! You have such a cute cozy crochet corner and your husband did a great job! ♥️🙂
Hi, lovely Jessie! Thank you so much! I'll pass your compliments along to my husband ASAP 😉💗
Am I the only one who wants to see more of your homeschool choices? 🤣 Love the video so much! Great work with the shots, Mr. Slow Crochet!
Ahhhh maybe? 😂 I imagine there's a high incidence of fiber artist mamas with homeschool kids 😉 I'm a curriculum magpie, all tempered with degrees in early childhood ed and my own personal hangups around certain things. I will sure let Mr. SC know his efforts paid off! Big hugs! ❤❤❤
Mercy indeed, riches of mercy all purchased by the precious blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen!
knowing my color season has made a big difference in my life. I try not to buy things not in my season because I know I tend to not wear those items I feel less confident in. And it translates to crochet. I feel so much more confident in colors that suit me :) Colors outside of my season are more for pajamas and can be for fun. i’m not super strict but i’m more mindful with how i spend my $
Ah, you and I are on the same wavelength! That is exactly what I am aiming for - not strict rules but an overall greater joy and confidence in how I spend my money and what colors I work with, knowing what I make will be worn and loved! Thanks for sharing your wisdom!
I'm looking forward to seeing the results.
Thank you! I'm having fun looking at everything through a different lens!
I picked up that book as finding out what season you were, was popular when I was planning my wedding. I’m a Spring.
Amazing how that book has stood the test of time! Spring makes sense for you, if going by your personality alone - you are so youthful and fresh and excited about life! 🩷🩷
Color theory is obviously not a new thing but I know the color season thing is trending because of the Korean color analysis. I didn’t realize the seasonality part was always a thing, but my color theory is pretty weak. I’ve always wanted to get a color analysis or find my personal color because the colors I find pretty to look at are different from what look good on me. I do find it interesting how you mentioned how we intuitively know our color palette and what looks good. I will say, sometimes I find a color that I don’t gravitate to but it ends up being my favorite thing, kinda like that red sweater you have.
Oooh, I haven't looked into Korean color analysis (probably because I live under a rock) - but I'll have to now! Thanks for the lead! I agree - so many times I'm drawn to colors that maybe embody the feelings or effects I'm looking for in my life... peaceful, soothing colors since my life is more full of high-energy, high-intensity responsibilities than not. Hmm.... so much more to ponder! Thanks for being so thought-provoking!
Nice video. Always enjoy them
Thank you so much, Ms. Bonnie! I appreciate you!
I remember the book Color Me Beautiful. It changed my life!! I thought I was an Autumn and looked dreadful in Autumn colors. I found out that I was a winter and also could wear some summer colors. Wearing colors in my "Season" really brought me to life!! I think you're a Summer. You may be a Spring, but try some of the more vivid Spring colors and see if you like them. Please try some Summer colors and maybe even some winter colors. May I very kindly say that gray just isn't your best color. Also, avoid oranges, and browns. Have fun and Happy 2025!!
Ahhh, I am so glad you said all those things! You're confirming what I was thinking. As cozy as my husband's hand-me-downs may be, his coloration is quite different than mine, so I can pass on his grays. Funnily enough, I avoided wearing my college colors because one of them was orange - not at all flattering on me ;-) I'm really thankful for your thoughts in terms of brighter, more saturated colors. Going through this process and sharing it with wonderful folks like you is really stretching my brain in good ways! Big hugs!
I was thinking that hank looked more winter! Color systems and color theroy in general really interest me. It's a bummer to make something to wear and not wear it. Great video!
Ahhh thank you for your extra set of eyes! Always good to get some confirmation on these things because color can be so subjective. It is amazing how complex we humans are! It makes me admire painters and portrait artists of the past so much more! Big hugs, sweet friend!
I really like those three colors in tweed yarn you're putting together. Looking forward to seeing how they look stitched up. This topic is reminding me of one of my favorite classes in college, which was a color theory course. I've never heard of color seasons before. I think I gravitate to the winter colors in that book, but I'll have to look into it some more. Thanks for this introduction! 🤗
Thank you so much! I've held off starting a project with them until I could get an extra set of eyes on it. You have amazing taste. I trust your judgment! I bet your college course on color theory was wonderful. The book heavily leans on those ideas. There are countless blogs, Pinterest boards, and videos discussing color seasons. I hope I haven't sent you down too deep a rabbit hole! :-)
I think just the suggestion that we go through our closets to see what our favorite clothes are is a great step to finding you preferred color scheme. And then using that to pick our yarns.
Thank you so much! I hadn't put two and two together until I did so - amazing what stares us right in the face and we just don't realize it! I definitely need to keep brighter colors in mind next time I yarn shop!
Hi Mary 🤗 as always, lovely hanging out with you! All your makes are gorgeous! 👌🏻 great ice-cream choices 🍦😋 I totally agree with you on musk sticks 🤷🏻♀️🥰🧶🤩
Ahhh, sweet Litsa! You'll be proud of me - I bit the bullet and bought lamb for the first time ever! I tried to go easy on myself and work it into something I already make, subbing it for beef in a stew, but I was not prepared for the distinct flavor. Thankfully, it was a hit with the family! Thanks for your encouragement - in so many ways! :-)
@ Hi Mary 🤗 of course I’m proud of you! 👏🏻👏🏻 I cooked a roast lamb dinner for Steve tonight but I had spaghetti bolognaise…I’m not a fan of the lamb flavour either…but my family love it! 🤷🏻♀️
Pretty projects! Love Edy. I would put a pink tongue on her to lick that ice cream, but that's just me.😂
Oooh, what a beautiful idea! I may do exactly that, thank you! 😊❤️
I agree with other sentiments: No worries about how long you go between updates, we’re just happy to see you! 😊 Also: Was it this video or a different one where you were wearing a LOTR shirt? I loved it so much… I either need to just enjoy yours or get four for this whole family. 🤣 This weekend I frogged three projects! Ahh! I needed a fresh start. I’m excited. Anyway, happy Lord’s day, Mary! Blessings, friend!
Aaahhhh yes, that is my LOTR map pullover - a treasure I found thrifting! It’s actually a little scratchy, but I’m too much of a Tolkien purist to mind 😂 I wish I could tell you where to find one! My husband would love one in his size, too! 💞 Fresh starts are good for the soul. I’m glad you took the plunge to frog and start again with more wisdom. Lots of love to you and yours, dear friend!
So many great projects...amigurumis are adorable and the sweater vest is beautiful! Lovely yarn from your friend...how sweet!
Thank you so much, dear heart! Been thinking of you and praying for you! I hope we can connect more soon! Big hugs!
Good to see you back! If you really enjoy Tim Tams, World Market out in Nashville West carries them, along with a large variety of international candies and confections. I enjoy that place quite a bit and have gotten Tim Tams from there. Amazing!
Oooh, good call! I've noticed some local grocery stores are also carrying more international goodies - but maybe it's best if I don't think about it too much... the temptation is soooo strong! 😂
Love the red panda and Edie the bear. You’re getting so good with the amigurumis. 🐻🥰 The sweater vest is just what I like…so creative. The shawl is gorgeous…love it.❤️
You are so kind! Thank you!
Love the red panda and Edie the bear. You’re getting so good with the amigurumis. 🐻🥰
Aww, thank you! I never imagined I'd be so drawn to amigurumi, but they are addicting, aren't they!
Hi Mary! I love seeing your videos, no matter the time between. I love your red panda! And that sweater vest is my favorite crochet vest ever. I'll zoom-in to study the stitch. Moss stitch is a slog for me too, but I love the finished product. I'd follow my heart for the wool yarn colors, you always choose well. That malachite is gorgeous! I love your scrap blanket! ❤ I finished my wave blanket and I love it. Working on a giant rainbow granny square, it flies by! Your shawl is stunning. I'll be looking at your notes here for pattern names. And I love a large hat, easy to throw on. I'm immediately watching this video again, so much beauty to see! All the best, stay well! 🎉❤
Oooooh my goodness, sweet friend, I hope you'll email me photos of your makes! I'd love to see your giant rainbow square and wave blanket! That stitch on the sweater vest is pretty straightforward - just chain however many, then two DC in a stitch, skip a stitch, and two DC again. On the next row, put your two DC into the second stitch of the "V" below. I hope that makes sense! Much love, my friend!
I love your Edy ice cream bear. 💖 Also, love the red panda and want to make that now 😄 I want to make a sweater vest too. I really like yours! Beautiful shawl as well.
Thank you so much, sweet Robyn! You are so encouraging! I love that CK made her red panda in all the colors of the rainbow - she has a joy in her work that reminds me of you! 🥰
I love Edy! And her grass skirt!
Thank you so much, Ms. Betty Lou! Big hugs!
It's good to see you! Beautiful yarn from the UK! The scrappy blanket is beautiful, and the red panda is adorable. Sorbet bear is precious. I love the sweater vest! Stay warm 🤗
Thank you, sweet Marsha! I told my children we should just jump on the interstate and drive down to visit you and escape the cold - except you got snow, too! 😂 Big hugs, dear heart!
@ It was a crazy week, for sure. You will definitely have to visit when it gets warmer!🤗
Nothing would make me happier, my friend! It has been too long since I've set foot near salt water. The last time I was at the beach, I was sick as a dog... We've got to redeem that! 😁
@ We were in Pensacola Florida today, and the water was beautiful. It was a little too cold for the toes but still beautiful. The MS Gulf coast beaches are pretty but the water is not as pretty as Gulf Shores Alabama & FL.
Ah, I could probably say the same about some of our murky rivers… it’s a different sort of beauty, maybe. I’m glad you were able to get over to Pensacola! 💕💕
Love love.❤. Love the grey, orange best. Love abit of bright. Very vintage . ♥️
Thank you so much! Bright colors make me smile, too, and vintage is my jam! Have a lovely day!
Great to see you, Mary. So many lovely new finished projects. I currently only have 4 WIPs. Happy new year and blessings to you and your family. Enjoy.......
Four WIPs sounds just about right to me! Any more than that, and they start "screaming" at me. There's one I'm putting off even now as I type... eventually I'll stop procrastinating😅 😂 Have a lovely weekend!
I can’t wait to see what you combine with that beautiful color
Thank you so much! It will require *just* the right pattern! I'd love your suggestions, if you have any ideas! 💗
When you talked about musk sticks I immediately started searching the internet for what the taste is. Reddit had some creative answers but it seems like it’s supposed to be rosewater or some other floral flavor.
Yes, that's what I learned, too - very floral. Sadly, I associate that with either great granny's potpourri or the time my friend spilled rose oil on herself at the Renaissance Fair in middle school... which is a memory just now occurring to me as I type, so maybe that's where the strong aversion originated. 😵💫😅
Oh my gosh! I was so surprised and happy to see your video posted today!! So nice to see you!! Thank you for sharing your yarn acquisitions! Bless you and yours!
Aww, I'm so glad I was a happy surprise! ☺ Thank you! 🥰
I really enjoyed your video as I like to make shawls and am constantly on the hunt for new patterns. Also, you have a rather hypnotic and soothing voice which makes watching your video a pleasure. Thanks!
Aww, thank you! That is so kind of you to say! 💕
Hi Mary! I love seeing The Shire peeking from your right shoulder! ❤ I attempt every day to give of myself with an open heart, because it's the intent and energy of unconditional love that will heal anyone that encounters it. I still mostly crochet for myself as a comfort, but gifts come in many forms. So lovely to see you, and it makes my heart happy to see your makes and your outlook! 🎉
Sweet friend! It always brightens my day to hear from you! You have such a beautiful heart. I'm so thankful for you!
I’m making blankets for a program I found this year, it’s year round so you can take your time. And u trust them. Camp boggy creak. Cute hats!
Thank you! I have heard ONLY good things about Camp Boggy Creek! What a wonderful organization! I am so glad you're able to help them out!
Lovely ❤
Thanks, friend!
I do not donate to the shelters because i found out this one in our area take the nice stuff for employees. So I've gone to the schools and my local sheriff because we live in a small town ...and ask him to share our gifts to a family. They can tell you who in your community is in need or take it themselves. Ive been in this little community for over 30 yrs .
That is amazing! How wonderful that you go the extra mile to connect with local first responders to truly help your community!
Beautiful donations. 💖
Thank you, sweet Marsha!
Hi Mary 🤗 sooo many beautiful items made with love & donated with love 🙏🏼🥰🧶🤩
Thank you, dear heart! You and I swim in the same river, so to speak! :-)
Awesome that you donated all of those beautifully crocheted items. I'm sure the recipients will be wonderfully warm & thankful! I really enjoy donating my crochet items too. I'm a prolific crocheter & couldn't possibly keep everything! 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
I sure hope so! It's so true - we crochet far more than we could keep! I imagine us like the old painting masters - imagine Rembrandt's studio, piles of partially-finished canvases, paintings that didn't sell - except with us, it's hats and scarves and blankets and sweaters! :-) Have a beautiful day in South Australia!
Mary, I think your healthy habit is something we could all adopt. When I was a child we lived near a train track. One day a young black man (no it doesn’t matter that he was black but for context this was an all white neighborhood and people were not always kind) came to our door and said he needed money for the train home. We were about a dozen houses away from the station so I guess he kept getting turned down. My mother gave him the cash she had. (This was the nineties and we were a family of eight so money was always tight) and i guess I asked her why she gave it to him, I was very young, maybe 6-7. She said “you never know when God is testing you. And that if he was being dishonest and didn’t need the money well then God would handle it” I think she caught flack from people when they found out. But this has stuck with me my whole life. She took a chance and gave him money on the faith that his heart was genuine. It’s been over thirty years and I carry that lesson from that day that my mother didn’t realize she was teaching me. Some people “give” because they feel they have to. This is not what Jesus wants. He wants us to love and give as He did. If it’s not genuine then why do it? Obviously I’m not asking you personally that question because it’s so obvious that your heart is genuine and it’s so beautiful Mary. Thank you for being a bell sheep ❤ So many people will feel loved and special and warm because of your beautiful gifts!
What a tremendous mother you have, with such a pure heart and honest faith. How beautiful that her example stuck with you so long! Generosity takes faith, doesn't it, one way or another? But God is always a safe bet. Life is unpredictable and painful, but the safest place to be is in the middle of obedience to our good, kind Father!
You are so kind with your donations. Such a great philosophy about it. Thank you for your generosity.♥
Ahh, thank you! The joy is mostly in the making. I'm just so glad there are places who accept my donations locally!
