    I do all the work on my BMW's & 987 Porsche Boxster. I'm in the market for a Panamera and it's really nice to come across a normal guy like myself who owns one of these beautiful cars and is able to relay actual costs of ownership & reliability for the average Joe who can do his own maintenance/repairs. Thanks for the informative video, I really appreciate it!

    I truly appreciate this video! Realizing the actual costs of ownership for these beautiful machines is very encouraging. Being an owner of a Lexus LS460 F-Sport and a GS350 F-Sport, reliability is critical for me and your sharing of the items you did encounter in three years of ownership has given me a reason to further ponder of actually owning one in the future! Tysm!

      Lexus is known for their reliability. The engines by Porsche are usually pretty solid. after that you going to get a car that handles like nothing else in a 4 door. I'm really interested in purchasing one myself. I think they are just a great looking car. Life's too short to drive cheap cars - as long as you can afford the auto insurance. lol

    I purchased my second panamera a few months ago (2010 turbo). My plan was to purchase an extended warranty. However I discovered it had an aftermarket muffler and intercooler pipe. None of the warranty companies would cover the car because of the additions. I thought about removing them but I'm reconsidering. I'm thinking about doing my own maintenance like yourself. I consider myself pretty handy, have decent tools and have a few dollars saved up. I also thought about selling the car and just be done with it but I REALLY enjoy driving this machine.

      What oil exactly is needed? If you use too thin of an oil does that cause the timing chain to fail, or is it when you go too thick?

      @danielfl.9347 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jason.arthur.taylor If you use too thick oil, and you live in a cold place, then it is not the best as the chain tensioner will not have oil pressure for a few seconds on cold start. Do that for many years and....
      Always go 5W or 0W. Other than that, then stick to the manufactures recommendation.

    • @jason.arthur.taylor
      @jason.arthur.taylor 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielfl.9347 But is the oil pump volume-limited? If it is volume-based, then the thicker oils yield higher oil pressures and the same amount of oil is pumped. The thicker oil should also produce more lifting force on the tensioner. If it has a way to avoid issues are 8,000 rpm then it would NOT be volume limited but might be pressure limited. In that case thicker oils would have less velocity and less momentum transfer force. Your logic only makes sense for the latter situation. Is this true? Also, keep in mind thicker oils allow higher forces on the driveshaft rod journal bearings. So if the latter is true it's a wackamole situation.

      @danielfl.9347 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jason.arthur.taylor For engines with timing chain, then the issue is actually often the wrong type of oil, especially for the guides/rails, but also the the timing chain tensioner, as it "feeds" off the oil pressure.
      Funny enough, you can see VW has revised the oil recommendation from 5W/30 to 0W/30 for all their elder TSI's.
      Thicker oil is great if you drive your car like a maniac, but if you are a normal person, then hell no. So many end up getting fucked in the ass because they listen to their mechanic (often an older gent) who says "put some good ole 5W/40, even though the car is tested and designed with a lower viscosity.

    did the exhaust give you the sound you were after? I was thinking about a 2014-2015 S with, of course, the v6 but I see videos and that v8 does just sound so nice. If the muffler swapout can fix that, that would be a pretty easy thing to do

    I’m going to buy a base model or 4 and put a shit ton of miles on it. Certified preowned unlimited mile, two yewr warranty. I drive all over the country. On my Kia stinger I put 150,000 miles in 3 1/2 years. (That car was amazing by the way, but it’s time to replace it.) Wish me luck.

    I like doing as much work on my cars as possible, because I trust myself over other mechanics. And after 20 years of working on cars and at auto-parts stores feel confident with my ability. This allows for then purchasing OEM or better parts since I can do the labor. Whenever I work on a car I first do no harm. I wish mechanics took an oath like that as doctors do. By the way, it is the "unspoken" rule in all repair shops, and auto parts stores etc. to sell the customer. or replace a part the customer did not need. I really hate saying that, but it is true. And something I refuse to do. There are plenty of opportunities to sell what the customer can use or need if you are a good mechanic and understand automobiles. And never wait till your car breaks before having it fixed. I've never been left stranded and needing a tow because of proper timely maintenance on my vehicles. Every part has been designed to operate so many "hours", which can translate into mileage for people. If your spark plugs say they can go 50K miles, change them at 40K miles for example. Most people will wait till 60K miles when the car barely runs. Don't be that person, and your car will never let you down.

    Hi how r u I like your info for the Panamera. Do u recommend to change all the coils at once or does that matter. I had a misfire also in cylinder 1 only. I was only going to buy 1 cylinder an I spark plug.

    • @mikeshorsepowergarage7577

      It's not necessary to change all the coils. I just did it because I felt that if one coil failed then the others would follow. I just wanted the piece of mind. I would recommend changing all the spark plugs on the side your working on. It will only take about 10 minutes more once you get the covers off. Thanks for watching!
