Asuras aren't always bad and devas aren't always good.. Originally, asuras were the powerful devas that's why the the Adityas were asuras and the most powerful among them was Varuna the first king of the gods before Indra usurped the throne. On the Rig Veda being an asura wasn't connected to being bad but being powerful.
