    Hi Phillip! What an amazing review! We're totally honored to be on your top ten pedal list, man!!! This is a day I will always remember with gratitude...every day I learn something new from the Marshall world, not just from Marshall itself but from other amazing companies that honor that legacy and I am so happy to be a part of it, so thank you again Phillip, You Rock!!!

    I bought a V3 because of your review. It's simply amazing. And they were extremely cool to do business with. I felt very good about spending the money on a smaller boutique builder.

    Love the v3 version. Has the Marshall knobs and a few more options to adjust the sound. Just make sure your power supply is clean or you get some noise.

    This sounds great ..... if you never have you should try a Marshall Jackhammer JH-1 - Use the O/D (distortion setting is horrible) setting only and then pan the FREQ setting hard panned right (this is key) and CONTOUR setting hard left or try between 7 and 9 o'clock. Gain is usually best around 1 O'clock. Bass for me in a closed back cabinet is at 10 o'clock. It just has that depth and mid clarity you look for in a Marshall. So far my fav all time pedal all around for a classic overdrive / rock tone. I'll have to pick one of these up and check it out though. For sure sounded great through that Princeton.

  • @philipatoz
    @philipatoz 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    My takeaways from this demo - yeah, it sounds great and much like a Marshall. Also, if mere stomp box circuitry can reproduce that sound so well - and at a fraction of the cost of a stack and head - it kind of tells me the amp and effects modelers are going to send the manufacture of traditional guitar amps to join the dinosaurs! Course, if you've got a classic amp, by all means, you'll use it as long as possible. But the cost and inconvenience (and especially the weight and lack of presets) of traditional guitar amps are simply not going to survive in the future marketplace. For one, the modelers will only get better and better and they can be manufactured for far less cost! So, if you've got a great museum piece - excellent - I do as well. But even the horse buggy guys had their day - and once it was over, that was it!

    • @philipatoz
      @philipatoz 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Paul_Lenard_Ewing , LOL - and yet most people can't afford a Stradivarius! But if a company could mass-produce products that can come somewhat close to that "Strad" sound, but at a fraction of the cost to produce AND for consumers to buy - what do you think that might that do to the Stradivarius market? (Notice, I didn't say that the modelers are of better sound quality, - just much more affordable than buying amps and a gazillion effects! Course, the buggy makers were once in denial as well ("Who wants to buy one of those loud hunks of junk when they can own beautiful buggy pulled a handsome team of horses?").

    • @gearViewmirror
      @gearViewmirror 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@philipatoz You do have a valid point there, but i play through both and the feel and response of the tube amp is just better. The sound may be the same, but through a modeler you are just playing guitar-through the tubes, you're taming a beast....🎸🤘🏼🎸

  • @rocktorrocks
    @rocktorrocks 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Is there a specific amp that this pedal works best with to get accurate JCM800 sounds? Asking because I want to run it through a Marshall DSL-1 to make it sound like a smaller JCM800 to use at home as the actual JCM800 amp is too big and loud for my needs.

    • @PhillipMcKnight

    I've commented on this topic before, but I don't mind repeating. One thing it doesn't seem to do is emulate the Boston guitar tone. Other than Dunlap and a couple of international builders, nobody appears interested in even trying that. It should be an available option, essentially the same plexi tone as a Marshall with a big midrange boost frequently achieved by a form of bandpass filter.

    Hello, Phillip!
    The "Rodenberg BL800 Gold" pedal also sounds excellent. It's handmade in my home country, Germany, by Uli Rodenberg and his team. I'm really enthusiastic about it because it sounds authentically like a JCM 800. However, I don't know if it's available in the USA.
    Musical greetings
    Mic 🙂
    PS: "With the Rodenberg BL800 Gold" you don't need to set all the controls to 10 to produce a powerful and punchy JCM 800 sound. You can adjust your sound very sensitively. The pedal also has a switchable booster that lets the sun rise when required. In Germany, the trade press agrees that the BL800 Gold can almost be played like a real amp - and feels like one, which I can confirm.
