It breathes, it's chunky, it's not fizzy. There's a reason why so many thrash guitarist used it. It just needs an atenuater when not playing at full volume.
the Greenbacks also makes the chunk more chunky, thicc even
Have a Silver Jubilee Studio Classic (20/5 watt) and it's the perfect volume with all of the tone, or so close I can't tell from playing the 100w Silver Jubes.
Defination of 80s thrash metal those tones were so chunky and beautiful

I love the JCM800 "metallic and honky" midrange barks, it sounds super precise and properly dirty to my ears. I hate that modern amps focus on bass frequencies. Leave them for the bass guitar!
Agreed, it makes a mix sound much more distinct and precise when you properly delineate frequencies to their respective instruments

The modern amps have a more defined low end indeed. It seemed to have started with the dual rec but as with the dual rec, if you dial it in for midrange and sizzle up top they respond to that type of setup quite well. Just my opinion.
A cranked 800 is one of the best sounds of all time. 👌🏻

I used to really dislike the Marshall tone but the older I get and the more I understand tone, the more I love it and want one. This sounds great. Then again ola could plug into a bowl of jello and it'd sound good.
Agreed, I my opinion Marshalls really need to be pushed hard to get a good tone. A lot of other amplifier manufacturers manage to get decent tone at bedroom volume, but I feel like every time I've tried a Marshall at bedroom volume, it just sound tinny and nasally.

The foundations of metal. In the context of a live band, it is absolutely perfect, which is what these amps were designed for.
Wow, What a difference in presentation. ALL amp reviews should be recorded the same way. It really does sound/feel like I'm in the room.. Even listening on my phone there's a difference in sound.. Nice job ya Sweed😆👍

I listened to a ton of thrash metal in the late 80s and early 90s, and most of the thrash albums were recorded using JCM800s. It’s a sound that I know well, and love.
i think rtl was recorded using that amp too
@@panosmichal7920 this is a fact Gary and Rick from exodus used the jcm800 with two boost pedals. Gary used two boss sd1s and Rick used a sd1 and ts9 but Gary had his amp modded and ricks was stock

Best amp Marshall ever made in my opinion, loved borrowing them at shows back when I was playing Death Metal. Wasn't so much a fan of the 900s.
When hitting the front end super hard it almost sags from compression, I like that sound though, it's filthy as all hell.
I grew up with the early versions of Marshall’s and to be honest, they’re the standard by which all great amps are measured!!! They simply kick ass!!! I also went thru a phase where I Had To try everything else-and I’m glad I did-in fact, I still enjoy plugging into different amps. BUT the minute I plug back into a Marshall, my ears can hearing it, my playing tightens up, then once I get that inevitable kick in chest, I feel like I’m home!! Almost like being a kid all over again🎶✊🏼

One of the best amps I've ever tried. From early Smashing Pumpkins and Fugazi to Slayer and Hate Eternal. Personally, I'd boost it. Phenomenal piece of kit.
Love this rig. My personal cabs have vintage 30’s, but it was cool hearing this rig with greenbacks tested playing da chugs. I’m sure these push a little more than my higher watt 30’s, just by wattage difference alone. I’m also glad you mentioned how you time align your mics. Is old school engineers gnash our teeth over projects that come to our desk that aren’t time aligned and then told why it’s not important to do so. Phase is important. You know this and I’m glad you passed this on to your viewers. Great vid as always. Love your stuff, Ola. Metal.🤘🏻

Very punchy and organic sounding, also kinda love how it focus on the lower midrange without interfering with the lows lows and highs highs of a drummer and bassist. Its kinda perfect to "my ears"

The JCM800 is the perfect distortion amp for me. Anything from punk to metal, it just works. The Greenbacks are a nice speaker to pair it with, but as you noticed the lack of low end, some folks like the G12-65's which bring back some of that low end, or the G12M-65's (Creambacks) for some more low end than a Greenback but with a little more high end than the G12-65's.
Yeah I love the way this sounds. Man JCM 800 sounds so epic.

I love JCM800 sound. When I was a kid it was the first amplifier I knew about. Rock on!!
Back in 2017 with my former band we used to rehearse in a studio where it had every amp you can think of. The first time we rehearsed there i entered one of the rooms and in one of the corners was a JCM800 with an orange cab with V30s. This was the meanest and craziest combo I've ever played to this day. Raw precise and chuggy. I will never forget it. The sound was amazing

This has been my favorite rig for years, I have used a 2205 forever and it will always be my favorite. The 2210 is great as well, I used a simple rig for years with a digitech tube preamp for using on heavier material and I would get compliments all the time on my tone and asked "what are you using?" lol 👍🤘

I have a JCM800 2203 from 1983 an a 1960AV cab. Put a Boss SD1 and an MXR 10 band eq in front and after all these years I have the sound in my head :)

7:07 Hey, that little section from there was really nice, man. A new (at least to me) wee flavour thrown in on some of your favourite riffs we've already heard. Good way to add something new but still play the riffs we've heard in other amp demonstrations so we can still pick out the tonal differences comparing same riff and different gear

I like the sound, it has a certain bite to it. I used to play it in a studio with an overdrive, one of my favorite amps!
I remember Dallas Toler-Wade (ex-Nile, Narcotic Wasteland) showing his recording gear in some video and it was JCM900 with a boost and an old JCM800 cabinet. Such a great amp.
2:39 your tone and riffage is spot on Slayeresque. The JCM800 2205 has always been on my wishlist, but I’m never going to pay “that kinda money” for one! 🤷🏻♂️
Did they ever reissue the 2205 or 2210? I had 2 of the 2205s back in the '90s, but sold both. I've waited for years, but never heard of any reissues. Best Marshall head, imo. We called them "800 channel switchers" in the '80s.
That's all we need🤘 awesome... since 1984 I play Marshall... Marshalls have caracter...and believe it or not, when a Marshall is on, it smells on his own way...that's great🤗 ....long time ago a drummer came in our Band room and he said: hey, I can smell that your band only uses Marshall...really no joke....sounds good and smells good😉

JCM 800 is insane. One of the best amps ever is the 6550 tubed version. It retains all the compacted character and adds some clarity and massive low end. Just crushes your balls balls. So no extra EQ needed.
Interesting. I had the 6l6 version which gave it some serious bottom end

Agreed.. I run 6550s in my JVM and it is killer. I actually hate EL34s in high gain Marshalls.
I got a 800 2210 100wAtt with 6550’s and it’s just completely brutal .

a cool thing that I came to think of when I listen to this is that I have desided to try a copleatly diffent guitar sound than I normaly have for my next album coz of your videos. and that is cool. :-) Be safe and skilful and tanks for a great video
My rig Is a moded 50watt JCM800 2204 and a reissue greenback cab from the 90's. I just had a fx loop installed, the original mod was a fourth 12ax7 in the preamp giving it gain for days.
I got the amp in 1992 and have been driving it hard since.
Thank you for understanding how good this amp really is.

I love my 800 2203x turret board rewired plus mods and hot mod. Mesa os cab with greenbacks up topa d v30’s on the bottom. Pop punk, classic rock, hardcore, and metal all come from that amp. It’s amazing, my favorite, my precious

Those Greenbacks make such a huge tone difference. They breakup nicely as well.
The 800 is one of the best all around Amps ever made.. I loved my 800 2210 ,used one for years with the 25 watt greenbacks, killer tone.

Yeah I do own a JCM800 50W and this thing not only fits for metal but it's exxxtremely loud.

I BELIEVE ZAKK USED LEE JACKSON METAL TRONICS PERFECT CONNECTION MOUNT TUBE PRE AMPS AND RACK MOUNT POWER AMPS. 3 COMPLETE DIFFERENT SET UPS. SET DIFFERENTLY. JUST USED A FOOTSWITCH TO SELECT WHICH TONE HE WANTED. I'VE SEEN HIS RIG, AND I HAVE THE SAME RIG MYSELF. BUT OF COURSE I DO LOVE JCM 800 2205'S. I HAVE TWO 2205 STACKS. ONE WITH 65 WATT SPEAKERS, AND ONE WITH 75 WATT SPEAKERS. BOTH HEADS ARE 1983 MODELS.
Thanks for this stuff! I've never played JCM800 and I'm pretty suprised, that it't tight just like that from 'out of the box'. Maybe, because I've played JCM900 and it was really flobby. I used to boost it with old Boos DS-1 with tone knob to max (!) and it was, sort of, turing the 900 into the broken chug machine. Love you Ola!

More metal than I would have expected out of the JCM 800. Awesome.
Man, this is a classic. Along with many other brands from the past. But Marshall jcm 800 moles. Now we play with fractal, line6, kemper but the truth is the collars are heavy amplifiers and the Marshall jcm800 is one of them!
That's a dreamy rig...I wish I still had my jcm 800, but I have the friedman be so I'm good....I love vintage 30s, but there is something about a greenback 4 x 12...my friend has an old one...it's magical....I do love the friedman cab too with half greenbacks and half v 30s...also magical....

I've owned a few JCM800s, IMO, the 2205 and 2210 as well as the combos versions are the best sounding and versatile of the 800 series.
