I agree with that. Same route I went. I honestly don't know anyone who makes beats, who doesn't dabble in recording, mixing, photoshop, video editing, djing. These days everyone is more self sufficient with the arts to get ahead.
Yeah totally agree. I just make beats as a hobby, but I feel that you have to AT LEAST dabble with the mixing tools and effects in your daw or stand alone. Makes a world of difference
1000% agree! I’m a platinum producer, and have tons of tv placements and many of those happened because of all the things I learned becoming a certified audio engineer. I didn’t have to wait for some one to mix things for me.
I agree 100% Bolo. I went to school to be an engineer and fell into producing and beat making because I needed projects to work on. You can discount the value of knowing the engineering process and how it can make you a better producer, beat maker and mixer.
I went to recording school and it cost alot. I have both appreciation and regret about that investment. That being said, there is way more to being an engineer than Bolo had time to talk about in this video. Especially if your music interests go beyond trap beats and other types of urban music. Recording live musicians is something different for an engineer. You have to be a gear nerd. You have to be an electronics nerd. You have to know ProTools backwards and forwards, you have to understand all kinds of mic techniques. You have to be an absolute master of signal flow. You also have to understand elements of studio etiquette. On top of that, you still need to be a creative and a musician. I have journeyed through that engineering world and it’s deep if you work in real studios.
You don’t need much music skills for this , I hate cords and bunch of labor and most live mixes sound like trash , every rushed job and cafe is your only friend d and mic placement and ringing out speakers but yes it is another avenue
Thank you so much for this video, Bolo. I was legitimately thinking about going back to school to take engineering classes myself. This whole time my issues was finding the kind of engineering that involves music or audio recording because there are 40 thousands different kinds lol.
Good video Bolo! Honestly, I get discouraged because of my age. It's so much to learn and I just don't believe I will have enough time. 😢 And I served in the Army for 26 years and music has been my passion but the Army was taking up so much of time and in addition to having a family as well.
This is what I'm locked in on right now the mixing/engineering process...I wanna truly know the ins and outs of the whole production process...In 05 me and my two homies went in on a tascam track board a set of Behringer truth monitors and a behringer c1 mic we set up in my homies dads house in a room and we didn't have a PC because we had the tascam 24 track recording directly into it so we had to mix right there on the board so that was my intro to this... that really made me wanna be more hands on with everything ..we used to charge like 50 for the session and like 75 if you grabbed a beat too....

you always have to know different avenues I went to school to be an audio engineer and I was getting session but I was getting calls for podcast and commercials you have to be versatile you cant box yourself in a box and yes your absoultely right I use pro tools but it doesn't matter what you use they are all tools good stuff
So I had started as a producer first then learned engineering from the school in Tampa IADT after that went into fully making beats until 2014 then I started working at a recording studio and engineering I will say knowing to make beats help a lot instead of pulling something up on TH-cam we go straight to my beat folder and during that time I was making some hard beats too
man that's how loudpak got lit in Pittsburgh i knew beats wasn't enough we created a whole sound from jimmy wopo to hardo to Fedd The God it put us in position been running the city for the last 15 years luv ya show bro keep giving game
I got into recording working in a studio back in the 70's and also hung out at a lot of sessions at other studios. My experience all producer could engineer, some would engineer their sessions, and other would sometime ask the engineer if they could make some changes because it would be easier that trying to explain it. Producers that didn't engineer on a session usually because they wanted to focus more on the music because they were also the arranger and since no autotune or warping they had to have the ears to keep the musicians on thier game. All producers need to know the at least the fundamentals of engineering so they can better communicate their ideas to the engineer.
Real deal bro I feel like your telling my story 😮that’s crazy bro.. I’m a engineer/producer/songwriter so I totally understand where u coming from king 🫡
Great video bolo i agree 100%.Everybody starts there producer journey but in my case i started out in a group so i had to learn how to record us lol.Well the group disbanded and that made me a solo artist beast,i had to make my own beats, record myself, mix and master and thennnnnn had to put my money up to executive produce the project myself😂😂😂. I was a literally a one man band executive. And i dont regret not 1 second of it because after that i was a household name in my area and i was a one stop shop…🫡🫡🫡

You just described my life plan

Why you need more hands on sounds like you did it already
Watching this has been an eye opener. Definitely going to start taking engineering more seriously
I am on my learning curve. I have completed compression and EQ, now on Reverb and later delay. Thanks bro

Love your content, you are so detailed in how to make music. What equipment should I start off with to make music?
That’s facts.

Glad it was helpful!
Awesome 👍
Too true Bolo. You can't be a cabinet maker unless you know how to use a hammer and chisel.
Sure does help to engineer, get more for your tracks
I wish I could of learned and understood the engineering side of music as a teen
c'mon guys there should be at least 300 thumbs up on this video👍
Right!!!!
Man saw into the future
TO EVERY ARTIST, IF YOU TAKE YOURSELF SERIOUS , YOU SHOULD BE AS SELF SUFFICIENT AS POSSIBLE, DON'T BE THE WEAK LINK IN THE STUDIO!!!
So dope
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
💯
Even with set programs the volume must be tweaked...so engineering skill is equally as important.
Bolo where did you go to school in Alabama?? I went to ASU in montgomery
Stillman in Tuscaloosa
Hey Bolo do zZounds ship to Jamaica to?
Can you do some engineering videos
I might
Engineering yes real talk I made money during the pandemic engineering cause others closed up this is the Way”
