This was Mule at their best. I love Mule today too, but this era as a pure power trio was as good as it gets. Warren’s tone with the Soldano and the young voice was powerful and cut through the air, Woody was just off the charts and Matt was full of energy. This is a gem of a recording.
Has to be one of the best Mule videos on YT. Agree u cannot get any better with Warren, Woody & Matt than this. Also love that Woody is featured so much more than usually seen. These guys just had it.
the mule could have used their Allman Brothers fame instead they played every gin joint that would book them across N America resulting in insanely rabid diehards like myself still here 25 years later
I was very fortunate to be able to see Gov't Mule play several times during the mid to late 90's in Macon,GA. Three excellent musicians! Allen Woody was a great bassist and seemed to be a very good dude.
I would give a TESTICLE to see these guys at this time period. Warren sounds ridiculously good. You just don't hear this level of straight up talent and musicianship at all nowadays. RIP WOODY.
I wasn't really old enough when woody had played but I seen a few shows in 2003-06 that were intense, hard driving, BUT THIS. This is good stuff. I'm glad I found it
This was my favorite band as far as influences go. As a bassist Woody was my influence. It was the Wood that made it good!! Play loud and proud. That's what he would have said!!
I'm old. Saw MULE in 1996 in Boston. Warren's cab was 10 ft away from my skull... lol..... Was like an awakening. This was the band I wanted to be in. I grew up on ZZ TOP, Jimi Hendrix Experience & AC/DC. Power trios and songs with spaces that make them heavier. MULE completely reorganized my thinking back to that . I quit my band after that when the other members didn't share my vision. I love the original band 95-2000. After Woody passed they weren't the same....
I'm just an idiot...Had like 2 or 3 different chances ta see This lineup. Was too inta stuff like Pantera, Prong, Black Label Society, and Corrosion of Conformity. Strangely enough, it was a C.O.C. song ("Stare Too Long" on AMERICA'S VOLUME DEALER) that Had Warren on Slide, that got me back inta givin' Mule another try. I had DOSE & gave it ta someone back in '97...mellowed a touch, a few years later, heard That, bought LIFE BEFORE INSANITY, Then saw the DEĴA VOODOO tour when Danny Louis joined (Hammond B-3/keys) & w/Andy Hess on bass(badass in his own right!)...😂 with My guitarist, who was a Zakk freak...(🙄we didn't have anything better ta do, so we got tickets for like, $17...at a Bar in Norman OK.😅) Told my guitarist: 😳"Dude!! We Gotta Fuckin' PRACTICE!!! THESE MF'ERS ARE BAD!!!!!". 🤣🤣🤣My guitarist stood there jaw-dropped & speechless!! 😲 😎Nodded!! 😂 🤦🏻♂️And I've kicked myself in the ass ever since for missin' This lineup!!🤘🏻 He ain't the reason I started on bass, but Allen Woody became & prolly always Will Be my Favorite Bassist!
I just stumbled onto this, thanks for putting it up. Great memories, got to see Allen play with them 3 times, each time touring the 1st 3 albums. An absolute revelation. Mountain meets Cream meets the Allman Brothers meets Zeppelin. These guys did not give a f*** what they looked like, it's all about the music and the tone. Allen's bass growl made our drinks travel around the table by themselves. Just so soul-filling glorious. Music fo' yo' ass!
Mule is our jamband Motorhead in a way :) In the mid- 90's hearing those first few notes blast through you face, you knew you were alive and in for 3 hours of power blues rock on 11. I did the "mistake" / "was fortunate" to ride the rail at some shows right in front of Woody and his stack. I am still recovering some of my hearing as of this day. Favorite show: June 16 - 1995 Club Toast, Burlington VT...small club, sweat, weed, shrooms and beer. Huge opening monster classic "Rocking Horse" also Mahavishnu's "Eternity's Breath", the Beatles "I Want You" and so much more. You are always guaranteed a great sweat at a Mule show. Cures your asthma too.
Ya gotta love Allen Woody playin the shit out of his bass and inspiring Warren and vice versa. They played very well, together... also gotta love Matt Abst doin his thing, well! They could play off of each other, great talent!
One day, when I was 16, my dad called me in, sat me down, looked me straight in the eye......and said..Son, You're a damn HopHead. One of my coolest memories heh heh
My 93 year old uncle Pete still calls people that lol "But it's good in that salve I put on my knees" "Aha! So you're a Hophead too!" 😁"I guess so......" Lmfao
My first one. The drummer of my band insisted with a free ticket and a ride....never looked back. Was at the Fox in 98 for the double live album. Met Warren outside the Georgia Therater before a show I attended. The best jam band ever.

Me and a couple of friends were at this show it was such a blast..
On certified fire on Rockin Horse my god!!
Seems like I have this audio on a drive somewhere - cool to see video.
From the beginnings in Bradenton Florida!!
I saw them this same year in Portland Maine. Mind was blown
great band fantastic first lp
Supreme jamming.
I was listening to straight edge hardcore when this concert happened.
Killer band!
What a debut album .
Got the Woody thump
I crashed 3 cars and lost 2 wives during this show, 1 mule everyday.
My 2nd Mule show!! Thanks!
My first one. The drummer of my band insisted with a free ticket and a ride....never looked back.
Was at the Fox in 98 for the double live album.
Met Warren outside the Georgia Therater before a show I attended.
The best jam band ever.
incredible how you can hear each instrument individually if you want to.
That's why a power trio is so badass
They had a recording right section right beside the mixer board at their early shows. There was about a dozen people set up recording this show.
@@samgibson684 And this one badass power trio, I saw them 12 straight years at the beacon theater NYC on new year's eve
I was at this show. $10
Kids today have no clue as to what was out there back then.
Make it seem so easy ,
Trane!!!
So killer. The most powerful power trio of all time. Only trio that comes close to this pure power is rush and they had keyboards lol
Agreed .

I feel ya. I was about 30 feet away from this magical experience.
@@youropionmattersnot hell yeah. Im seeing Mule tmr night. Last time i saw them i was abt 30 feet from Warren. It was kickass. Rock on!!!
Are you sure this wasn’t a 1996 show?
wayback machine copy of Mulebase confirms this show was 95
Outstanding ! Thanks ✌
