      " people don't know why you added water to tank"
      That's just one isolated factoid. I'm never surprised how much lack of in depth knowledge most people exhibit on matters they feel feel particularly competent in. Look up the "Dunning Kruger Effect" and read about why that is the case, it very interesting. The lack of basic overall knowledge for a high percentage of people is epidemic today, imo. I'm 69 and it never stops coming up, the lack of real in depth understanding content providers show when making a how to video which they feel adequate in. The hardest part is being effectively diplomatic enough to not be painted as a hater and troll when pointing out short comings in a video or presenter's methods/Knowledge. Ignoring it and not commenting is the safest. Cheers.

Also, my feet hurt every other day or so and someone else said it would be helpful to mark the shoes L and R but how am I supposed to know which letter goes on which one and how would that help anyway? I painted a floor the other day but left tracks on it when I was finished and my wife laughed at me. I still don’t think it was funny, I had to get out somehow.

      Don't know if some of these comments or a joke or not the reason why you would add water to any vessel before cutting or welding is to purge any residual vapors or even liquids from the interior many people have been seriously injured or killed for failing to do a simple step. People assume that because the vessel is empty that the danger is gone but in fact they are still very dangerous.I fill vessels until they are overflowing and l continue to overflow for several seconds just to make sure no Boom

    I would add one safety measure. He made sure the valve was open to depressurize the tank. However just in case the old valve was faulty, when unscrewing the valve, wiggle from side to side to tell if there is pressure in the tank. If the valve is not very loose, there may still be pressure in the tank. Be safe.

      Thanks for asking! That is Gypsy Trail Pom. She goes everywhere with me. She is what is called a Throwback Pomeranian (that's a Pomeranian with "throwback genetics" from when poms were larger dogs). Instead of being "lap dog" size like most poms, "throwbacks" get to be about 20lbs and look a bit more like the larger spitz breeds (elkhounds, malamutes, etc) but are typically a little leaner. You'll see her featured in a lot of my videos since 2019 and she always pops up from time to time in the background. Thanks for watching and leaving such a positive comment! Stay well. Peace.

    If you wanted to make an air tank out of one of these the threads are 3/4 US pipe thread. A 3/4 x 1 1/2 inch nipple to a 3/4 inch T a ballcock valve and reducer reducers to fit the female air coupling to it, and use the other end of the T for either the air inlet or an air gauge and use a double ended male air coupling to fill the tank at the female outlet. But this is at your own risk.

      When these bottles are new they are certified to 325 psi for a period of six years. If rusted or otherwise damaged (impact, burns, metal fatigue...) that certification is meaningless. If you take a bottle like that to a business that specializes in propane, they should reinspect the bottle and either reject it for further use, or recertify and apply a date stamp showing recertification date, good for another six years.

      Have you ever worked with a tank that's rusted closed?
      I searched youtube and found this video.
      The triangle-shaped handle won't move either direction. I cannot tell if it is currently opened or closed.
      Using a pin I purged the gas I could out of it, but I'm sure there's still vapor. This makes me uneasy about opening it up.
      Is it safe to drill into it underwater, would that prevent explosions?
      I was also thinking a file and some lube, nobody has ever made a spark using a file.

    • @cocospops9351
      @cocospops9351 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@capnlatenight5356 You can just drill into it normally, if there is no pressure inside of it. Nothing will happen. 1: Drilling doesn't produce sparks, if it does you'll destroy your bit before making it through the tank 😉 2: even if it did spark, it won't explode because there is no air in the tank, it would simply produce a small flame where the hole is. I cut these all the time as I make wood stoves from them. Heres my method, drill 6 or 8 mm hole in depressurised tank, put tank in a fire (I use a steel oil barrel, wood and a powerful blower from a bouncy castle) this burns off the paint and frees up the valve. After heat treating the valve comes out easily, usually just twist out by hand. At this point it is dangerous because there'll likely still be vapour inside (which still surprises me as the tank would be glowing red during heat treat) and taking the valve out will introduce air. You can leave it to air out for a day or so and it'll be good to go. I actually do a "controlled explosion" by firing my plasma cutter into the hole I drilled and the vapour ignites and shoots out the valve hole with big whooosh, sometimes still gives me a fright even though I've done it hundreds of times 😂😂 But you can skip that last step if you're not feeling brave/don't have a plasma. 👍 Let me know if I can help any more, don't want to see you getting hurt.

    • @cocospops9351
      @cocospops9351 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@capnlatenight5356It's important to make sure there's no pressure inside it before drilling. If there is, it's possible that gas will spray out and ignite from the brushes in your drill motor, flame throwering you in the face (this has never happened me but I'm conscious that it could) As you say though, jam something into the valve pin and release any pressure first.

    • @HNXMedia
      @HNXMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is the safety relief (pressure relief) valve. It is used when filling the tank to keep from building too much pressure.

    • @brettelmerelmer3061
      @brettelmerelmer3061 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually, it is a fixed liquid level valve. The purpose is to give you an unwavering indicator that the tank is filled to 80%, the legal fill level for liquid petroleum gas (lpg) bottles. It is commonly called a spitter valve, because as long as the tank is below 80% full, it vents gas. At 80% or higher, it vents (spits) liquid. Don't get any liquid on you, because it evaporates at 44 degrees below zero and will give you some rather painful freezer burns. The reason for the 80% fill level is to allow for thermal expansion of the liquid inside. Gases are compressible, liquids are not. If the liquid expands to 100% in that tank, and more heat is applied, at some point, the tank will rupture and cause a problem you don't want to be within a hundred yards of unless you enjoy having all the hair singed off your body and a lot of third degree burns. When the tank ruptures, each gallon of liquid evaporates to become 270 cubic feet of gas, which is explosive at any concentration above 4% in the atmosphere. After the initial pressure release of the rupture, the remaining liquid inside cools almost immediately to 44 below zero, and will continue venting through the rupture until all of the liquid is completely evaporated. Ever wondered why people who deal with this stuff daily need a certain amount of training before they get turned loose to work with it?

In addition to hot water and dish soap rinse outs, I would also continuously force 125 PSI shop air in through a 3/8 inch tube while cutting, to create an overly rich mixture and prevent outgassing from forming an explosive pocket!! It is also very dangerous to grind off the welds on the safety guard, or the bottom rim, because the original weld might have had a "piping porosity" pinhole that went through the body metal but sealed up in the weld metal reinforcement or fillet weld as it cooled. The tank passed Hydro test, because the hole did not continue to the surface, but now, you have opened a hole with your grinder, just by grinding into the weld reinforcement above the tank wall, and possibly BOOM!
