Traditional archery is way more challenging than people realize. I shoot a 55lb recurve and our 20 yard backyard range is perfect for shooting at a 3D hen. 20 yds? Sounds easy, right? Give it a try, and I guarantee you’ll find that it’s harder than it sounds.
Recurves are fun to shoot and definitely a challenge. My passion is bow hunting whitetails. Though i use a compound its very challenging but also very rewarding. Every animal taken with archery tackle is a trophy. So much has to go right to pull it off. Learning to shoot recurve is the only way to fly IMO. Nothing quite like learning to shoot instinctually before you make a move to sites.

I picked it up a couple of years ago for hunting and my youngest son got interested and took it up as well. You can get into it with a recurve bow without too heavy of an investment. It definitely helps to have a range because most archers are very friendly and will give you pointers. A lot of ranges even have lessons you can take to try it. But once you try it you're hooked. You have been warned.
Get a compound bow an get started.. shooting a deer with a rifle is one thing, stalking a deer an shooting it with a bow, is emotional you get close enough to see an animal breath. Perfect technique an practice still sometimes wont seal the deal but when it happens it is beyond rewarding.

Archery is so much fun!! :DDD ....tho there is a real need for better arm guards. You turn black and blue very quickly otherwise and then you scare the crap out of ppl. Still super fun :D! So many arrows in that foam deer's butt >>:). Kind of like tennis, tho tennis is still better I'd say....there's more tactics and you're competing against other ppl not paper or animals. Still tho, super fun. If they made shirts with a built in arm guard...woohooo!!! I'd buy them all!
Trad Archery gets no credit. That's the real archery. It's a shame. Oh well, not being a hater! I have many compound friends. I would just love to see trad archery get some light too.

I shot for Team USA in 2016 as an Olympic style recurver. Would love to get back in there and do some work.
