@MaybeTonightCharters me and a buddy are going to hit the fire island national sea shore for a camping and surf fishing excursion in early june. your video was what pushed us to finally plan it!
thanks capt paul yea i have the shimano baitrunner 8000d and i was looking in to getting the shimano 400b baitcaster also. went out today off the fire inlet went west and south not bunker just small blues thanks again
@MaybeTonightCharters ok thank you for the quick response and how do you like the penn 975 i have herd all different things about them but i guess its all prefrence. thanks again mikey
Hey great video! i also fish in the same area... Just got a couple questions, when you get a run off how long do you weight? and do you set the hook hard with those trebles hooks or just start reeling?
Kent Napp the rod in this video is a Rogue 8ft casting rod,, model 806CC with Penn International 975D and 25lb mono, I also add an approximate 36inch shot of 50 mono as leader. Hope that helps and thanks for coming by, good luck on the water this season!! Capt Paul
Any of the State Parks, (Jones Beach, Robert Moses on the South Shore, Sunken Meadow and Wildwood on the North Shore to name a few) Suffolk County parks at Smith Point and a few others are right on the water. Orient State Park out east on the north fork, Montauk on the south fork. Plenty of parks to access the water for only the cost of parking :-)
This video was shot on June 6th 2011. If the fish have not found those bunker yet (I've heard that they have the past couple days) they will very SOON!! :-) Good luck out there
what kind of rod should i use or could i use for snagging bunker and could this also be done surf fishing? to the others that see this im a newbie still learning stuff for my first season this yr. lol
well what places only require you to have to pay a parking fee that you may know of and what places you know of that only require a permit fee of a realatively small fee as a per year price not a one time fee kind of deal? sorry for all the questions i just would like to learn how to do the sport before getting into the paying a fee in case a do not wish to do a surf fishing deal. you know but thank you so far for your help.
okay understandable and im a spinning but everyone has there preference :-) but also Where here on LI could i go to do some surf fishing without having to pay for a permit like over at Jones Beach, Montauk Point, Long Beach? just till i get use to fishing with a surf rod and reel since this is going to be my first season doing it.
@MaybeTonightCharters lol ok good, we used to use circle hooks and just start reeling, i hated that and used to miss a lot of fish. Thanks for the advice!
That is correct. Unless of course you want to fish NIGHT. then there are the required permits for that, check out State Parks and County Parks websites should have the full details on the parking fees
I am a little worried about fighting a fish that long if I'm going to release it. U can see it looks half dead. Dude didn't even tried to revive the fish. Anyways thanks for the vid man

I has two questions:
1: wat port did come out of
2: would u recommend live snaper as good bait
When you fish for striped bass, do you use the whole bunker or do you cut it in sections and fish with different sections of the bunker?
Hey Captain Paul, what size rod are you using and what is the line weight? Im using a 7 ft 12 - 25 lb MH casting rod 1 - 3 oz.
