In 7th grade I did an oral report on Shirley Temple. I even went so far as to make an outfit like she wore lol. Yes I could sew and make clothes from a very young age lol. She was treated horribly by pretty much everyone in her life. I was heartbroken when I found out what all had been done to my childhood idol. May she rest in peace ❤

I learned a thing or two about Rita, but this could've EASILY been a multi-part series. OOOOOH a multi-parter!! YASSSS! Let's make this happen!!! Also, please look into Catherine D'Lish gowns; her gowns would be PERFECT for the DH couch!!
I think she just published a photo of Bailey in her gown! On insta!
From your lips to Bailey's ears. Multi parters 🤞
Yes, I'd love to see more!!
@@jennybk7110 they are quite pricey, witch is why I was hoping maybe they could do a collaboration or maybe she wouldn't mind just investing in one. It would be just the perfect thing! Plus a tiny "matching" one for Joan.
Yes part 2!!!
This definitely still goes on today…. We need a part 2, for real!! There is so much that goes on in Hollywood that you could probably have a whole series just on this.
I adored the facade of Hollywood too and the more I learn it's absolutely disturbing and sad. Thank you for all your hard work
I never liked Hollywood especially how it really made Judy Garlands life. crazy to think that the Wicked Witch of the West in real life was the nicest person to her.
Your profile pic is so pretty!
The fact that Judy Garland's kids went into the same field that ruined their mother blows my mind...
And ruined their lives too
Judy also begged them not to ever get into the hollywood business.
Are you familiar with how trauma works...?? I'm being facetious. I'm sorry....
@@spike16965 But she let them appear on her specials and sing with her on stage.
@@leilan9231 I am not sure it ruined their lives. Liza became a bigger star than her sister Lorna did. Not sure if their brother became famous or not.
I would also add the story of Shirley Temple... Truly disgusting and horrifying
What do you mean? I am a huge fan of hers. I read her autobiography "Child Star" many times. Even wrote her a fan letter a few weeks before she died. She was definitely treated better than child stars like Judy Garland or Jackie Coogan.
@@ashleydowney1222 she was abused by pedophiles, physically abused on multiple accounts...just because someone took their trauma and made a life for themselves outside of it doesnt mean they didnt come from something horrendous. but whatever helps you sleep at night girlfriend
Was coming to the comments to mention this too. That story is so upsetting. :(
My grandmother was obsessed with Shirley Temple and Jerry Lewis. To be close to her and spend time with her we would always watch their movies. I in turn became obsessed with them too.
Can't imagine how bad was her movie to be banned in several countries.. i mean she was just a toddler, what kind of toddler movie was that -_-"
My father worked at Warner Brothers as a set design assistant during this time (yes I was a very late child for him) the stories he tells... I feel so much compassion for these young actresses. Apparently he lived in the same neighborhood as Judy Garland and would hear her practicing from his home.
Wow! What an incredible insight you have!
It's amazing to me that Judy Garland would have been 100 years old this year!
@@GuarDeannAngel yes. My dad just turned 96. It's amazing the history our older family members can gift us.
@@rayajayce2034 Yes it is! I was blessed to take care of my grandmother for several years, she would've been 100 this year as well. I learned so much history from her! She passed in 2014 at 91. Sounds like your dad has lived a decently healthy life! I'm glad you've been blessed to have him so long 💓
Your hair, makeup and whole look is stunning!!! Channeling your own inner Rita Hayworth
Shirley Temple was a victim of Hollywood as well, poor little chick 😢 you’re amazing Bailey thank you for bringing dark history to the light ❤️👏
She did get out of it though, she eventually took over her own life and she did become a US Ambassador in later years.
Shirley Temple was definitely treated better than some child stars such as Judy Garland. She got to go to Westlake School after one her movies bombed. And she was never given medicine to keep her awake and to make her sleep like Judy Garland. She eventually got to have a normal life.
I think she was one of the very few that had a happy ending. But I can't really remember
@@ashleydowney1222 she was however, force to sit on ice when she was only 2 in the studio Everytime she forgets a line. Force to make out with her producer to be given a certain role and her hair was yanked on a daily basis cause everyone thought it was fake
Edit: mind you this all happened before she hit 7 years old
Yes, Shirley Temple Absolutely was a victim of Hollywood as well. So tragic
Bailey always looks phenomenal, but she hits different in this episode omfg
I’m trying to figure out what’s different! She looks banging!!!! 😍
It's that timeless vintage look.
@@TurquoiseInk I was about to say, it's that Vintage glamour. Everyone looks beautiful wearing this style
If you haven't read it, I highly recommend "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.'" It's a fictional take on old Hollywood but there are parts taken from a lot of the actresses and their experiences you mentioned in this episode! It's an amazing book.
Was searching for this comment so much. . . I was just about to recommend it myself when I saw this at last
Evelyn Hugo was also inspired by Elizabeth Taylor !
Patricia's mother was also paid off to testify against her and say it never happened. So sad. They made an amazing and gut wrenching documentary about her story called Girl 27. Highly recommend.
Where can you watch this?
@@Deebnoff Think I seen this being aired on Netflix
“They cast the same actors and actresses that people would recognize. Almost as if it didn’t matter what the movie was about”. This hit!!! I feel this is one of many reasons why great or more raw and truthful films are never shown on the big screen. If brad Pitt was in an independent film about a taboo or important subject everyone would see it.
I, also, am EM M 😳
Today it's Zendaya
Bailey looks like a Hollywood star ⭐️ herself. Keep up the great work!!
Thank you for this story, Bailey. My mom told me she read an article that said Judy Garland would call her parents begging to take her off the Wizard of Oz movie. She also read that Judy Garland loved Margaret Hamilton (the Wicked Witch of the West) to pieces. Margaret became a substitute mother to her on the set. If anything ever proved that beauty doesn't mean goodness and not-so-beauty doesn't mean badness, it's that. I find it trippy to watch their scenes knowing how close Hamilton was to Garland.
It’s also so shocking to watch now knowing the men hated her bc they were essentially jealous!!
The fact that Judy died from the same pills the studio forced her to take, says it all
Really? I had no idea.. eekkk?!
She suffered so much and was so talented and kind. RIP Judy 🙏
Sadly she was given those from the time she was little until she died. Because they didn't know they were harmful or addictive back then. Which is no excuse. Why you giving a child pills that you don't even know much about?? She would stop taking them while pregnant but she was so addicted that she would start back up if she wasn't forced to after having her babies.
@@oliviablackburn3907 Are you going to let your kid, or would you if you don't have any as of yet, take the covid vaccine?? I'm not trying to be snarky or troll anything, I am actually wondering about this since the vaccinations for kids; 5 and up, start here in Helsinki next week and I have an 8yr old.
@@Veruska75 I'm undecided about that. I might get my son vaccinated. He gets sick super easily so I really don't want him to get covid. But to each their own. It's hard to say because I don't know much about it right now
The fact that I'm getting Hollywood vibes from Bailey in this video and lots of the previous ones almost feels like a tribute to them, let's not forget that the horrible abuse that celebrities have endured still happens today. Thank you, Bailey!
Please do a Hollywood History Month! I agree with others, there is so much more darkness that can be discussed!
There is so much darkness behind old Hollywood that you should make this a series!
And happening right now in Hollyweird
Old Hollywood? Ah, haha, thanks for the laugh. If it's possible to be worse, it is
Bailey, please make this a series of some kind. There are so many tragic and dark aspects of Hollywood studios. Also, this reflects on a larger issue in society; the misogynistic approach to women. It's not only movie stars who find that men either want them to be a seductress, and either exploit or dominate them, or sadly, both. Your channel is amazing and inspiring. Keep it up Lady! 💃
There are many men also abused and destroyed by Hollywood bigwigs. They don't see people but only products.
This could be a whole series. There are SOOOOOO many other stories from that era
I'd love to see more videos on old Hollywood.
Bailey could you possibly do a Dark History series on old Hollywood? There is so much to cover and it looks like we all want more! 😄❤
I have watched other videos of people doing stuff like this but Bailey is just such a natural story teller. When sh puts her makeup on and just chats to us like we're at a slumber party!! She's just so down to earth
This kinda reminded me of a book I read a long while back called, "Little Girls in Pretty Boxes" about the abuses that elite gymnasts and figure skaters endured.
Dancers too
I read that book too. Eye opener, and sad. Nasser the gymnast doctor is in the book, but they don't name him.
”Working them 18 hours a day before they’re even 17 years old”, ”If you wanted to be a star your life was no longer your own”, ”their hair was usually dyed and cut instantly after they sign their contract, then they’re forced to stay under a certain weight… they fed them coffee and diet pills”, ”morality clauses” etc etc… sounds a lot like the kpop industry 🤩
I was thinking this too
Fr
So true. They need permission to do anything!!!
i agree
@@Deebnoff right? Like the dating ban is exactly the type of thing they would've had in old hollywood.. only that was the FIFTIES, and yet it's 2022 and it's still a thing? Gross
I love listening to the end credits- you have an amazing team, and I don’t think people understand how much work, research, production, and a million other details it takes to make your show. Kudos to your entire team!
Excuse me while I am just here crying because of the life Rita Hayworth had. That orson wells reply was like a stake through the heart. I cannot imagine how she ever would have moved past that emotionally. I loved old time movies as a kid. When I was a preteen I wanted to be Doris Day. I even wrote her a fan letter at the time telling her how brilliant she was. Later I learnt that she too had such a sad life in search of love but only finding terrible men who wanted to own / use her.
I cried when I first learned about the treatment of Judy Garland.
She deserved so much more.
ABSOLUTELY AGREE
Totally!!!!! Hope she is at peace now
Crazy to think that the wicked witch of the west was one of the most evil characters of all time. yet in real life the actress was probably one of the nicest person who has ever lived.

Wow. The studios are pure evil. Now I’m wondering about the backstory of all our current “movie stars” and what they had to go through to make it.
Imagine all the things we DO NOT hear about SMDH
does anyone else want bailey to do a dark history video on scientology?? i would absolutely love to watch her speak on this cult !!!
Yes!!!!!
I agree, a part 2 would be awesome. Mae West was one of the few ladies during that time that kept control of her own contract.
A lot of these stories about how the industry treated stars like Rita Hayworth and Judy Garland rings a bell even today… this is still going on in Hollywood! How the “industry” treats some of todays biggest stars.
Loretta Young was also a huge victim of Hollywood's horrid abuse via Clark Gable! A lot of people know nothing about that either!
Along with their daughter , who found out @ her wedding who her father really was! Clark denied her meet her once as a child.. Loretta had to have her baby in secret & adopt her from an orphanage… crazy story! Bailey should do a part 2 w/Loretta’s story added ❤👵
Please do more like this!!! I’d love to hear more about Shirley Temple and even Betty Whites history!!
I would love to hear both of those!!!!
When she mentioned children I thought she would have mentioned Shirley Temple. This doesn't scratch the surface of how corrupt Hollywood truly is........like there's a lot going on.
There is an older book called Hollywood Babylon as well as sequel that has a bunch of stories similar to the ones you talked about
Kenneth Anger ✅
I could watch endless videos on this . It's very sad and makes me angry but we need more awareness of what REALLY went behind the scenes when we glamorize old Hollywood and unless keep in mind some of these things could and probably still are happening now... Look at Kesha for example 💔
You should do a part 2 of this about the racism in Hollywood.
And ableism, and weightism, and ethnic stereotypes.
She should definitely do a Hollywood History Month! There is so much content to work with.

PLEASE DO A PART TWO ON THIS! I really enjoy your dark history videos!
The Judy Garland story made me cry.. Also I don't think I'll ever be able to watch the Wizard of Oz the same way again. What a corrupt thing to do to a young woman.
Loved this have you heard the scandals that went on the filming set of wizard of oz it’s was absolutely disgusting the way they treated the actors
Judy made tapes that she wanted to turn into an autobiography. They corroborate everything you said here, and how depressed and angry she was about the studios stealing her life when she tried to do her best.
I feel like Bailey is being more her natural self in this dark history and I'm here for it! 👑

Eh. I don’t like the teleprompter. She’s much more genuine on her other channel. Just my opinion. 🤷🏻♀️
@@minini5571 that's exactly what I meant lol. Dark history was feeling really scripted and disingenuous but this episode felt more normal if that makes sense.

Gilda is absolutely iconic. I didn’t know she had such a rough life.
I went through a phase in my tweens of being obsessed with old school Hollywood glam. I would devour anything on the classic actors and actresses and movie sets. It really made me open my eyes when I was young. I decided I'd probably never want to meet any of my fave actors/actresses/singers, etc...
I love Old Hollywood but there are so many other tragic stories.. Peg Entwistle for example who jumped to her death from the H on the Hollywood sign, Jean Harlow, who died aged only 26 and her husband Paul Bern's controversial death.. Lupe Velez, the Mexican Spitfire...Jayne Mansfield's supposed decapitation. So many srories to tell. I love your Dark History podcasts! Thank you :) x
Supposedly Jayne wasn't decapitated, that was her wig. Mariska Hargitay was also in the car.
@@antipatsy it was her hair piece and she was scalped, awful😪
Jayne Mansfield was in a car accident, she was wearing a wig and it came off through the force of the crash. She wasn't decapitated! There was a man who saw her wig come off and mistook it for something else. If she had been decapitated there would have been tons of blood all over the place!!! I guess the man didn't know that though. And her youngest boy was in the car with her, so if she had been decapitated he would have been covered in blood. Which he wasn't.
