Cleopatra was also the first pharaoh of her family that actually spoke egyptian. Cleopatra's dynasty of rulers (the ptolemies) were greek and they refused to learn egyptian, as this language was associated with poor people. They only spoke greek, as this was the noble language; all laws were written in greek and then translated to egyptian. Cleopatra was the first pharaoh of her dynasty to actually learn egyptian. She did care for the poor people and the people loved her back. She was a very charismatic leader. It is a shame that she was the last egyptian pharaoh ever. The ones before her didn't care as much as she did.

Also she knew that when a country has rulers of foreign blood that came in and conquer the land, the rulers must try extra hard to improve the wellbeing of the local population, because otherwise the poor people will hate the rich foreigner rulers. And that she did. She improved the quality of life and wellbeing of her subjects. Local egyptians were convinced she is the reincarnation of the egyptian goddess isis. She was a very smart and capable leader.

Cleopatra is extremely fascinating. She was not just a pharaoh. She was a mathematician, scientist, created makeup (used charcoal for eyeliner for medical reasons and taught her people about the safe uses of charcoal as eye makeup) She was thought as a magical beauty BUT no one actually knows what she even looks like because when Augustus won the war, he made it a point to erase her image completely which included removing coins that had her face on them. She was even a great leader in war and fought in the front lines with her army. Insane!! ❤
She was indeed incredible - can you imagine this fierce woman at the front line of an Egyptian army? The Romans, professional as they were, still might have been a bit freaked out! Of course, because we can't have anything nice, Rome took Egypt from her - which, figures.

Justin looked like the “saint” during the Britney Spears Justin break up. Looking back on how she was treated vs how Justin was treated is so sad. The interview with BS and Diane Sawyer made me mad then but seeing what all has happened in Britney’s life since then it infuriates me even more.
In a interview he giggled and gave it away he took away Britney's virginity when something like that should've stayed a private matter.

Family and I watched that Janet documentary series that recently came out and the thing that was the saddest about that incident was that she wasn’t angry at Justin and she didn’t want him to receive any backlash or hate so she never said anything and supported him going to award shows when she was banned. Even recently when people were calling him out on it she posted a video saying that she forgave him and that they’re friends. She was too kind, and just for media to shame and cancel her. Bless her heart and soul. 💔

So, my favorite part is that when "nipplegate" happened everyone lost their minds and janet was destroyed. Yet, nobody complained about the thousands of instant replays on the news and entertainment outlets for the entire week following.

You should really do an episode about Cecilia Payne and the women who mapped the stars. Williamina Flemming, Antonia Maury, Annie Jump Cannon, and Henrietta Leavitt. They all made incredible leaps and discoveries in astronomy and never got recognition for their works during their lifetimes. Many of them still aren't credited for their discoveries in scientific forums. It's really tragic.

I think there's a feeling of "sisterhood" where you feel betrayed that another woman could do that to you. It's totally misplaced, but that's the only thing I can think of that makes sense.

If you dont know, you should really look into the story of Zheng Yi Sao, she was the most successful pirate ever recorded and was brutal! Great story a lot of people dont know
Most everyone knows the play Hamilton. Eliza is portrayed as a home wife and can't possibly compare to Angelica when it comes to beauty, social circles, or intelligence. Fun fact, the line about the letters Hamilton wrote for the federalist papers...a significant portion of them were written in Eliza's hand writing and it was said that she was given credit for Alexander's status in treasury, as she was behind the scenes organizing and taking on large portions of that responsibility.

You could do a dark history about J Marion Sims, the "Father of Gynecology". His experimental surgeries and procedures were done without consent on enslave black women. He was a sadistic and would perform procedures on women with no pain medication or anesthesia. These torturous events would happen in rooms full of spectators. When medical students are taught about him, they aren't taught HOW he made his discoveries and at what cost

I feel that men, specifically those in positions of power tend to be far more emotional than most women I know. It’s almost though like they don’t count things like anger, jealousy, and those kinds of emotions as actual emotions if you are aggressive when you have them. Which to me is far more dangerous for a leader to be than anyone on their period ever could be.

Since im a 2000's kid i never familiarized myself with the Beatles and the whole Yoko Ono drama, i had always heard of people criticizing her but never understood why but also didnt bother to look it up myself. I was shocked to hear her true story and the false accusations thrown at her....

Tbh I don't really like the Beatles, but I always thought John brought her in as an honorary member, she wanted more control after being on a song and her bad singing and bad ideas broke them up. At least that's the rumor I've always heard floating around, I was never sure how true it was.

I have to be honest, I'm proud that I was lucky enough to learn the real history of Cathrine the Great and Cleopatra. Cathrine, my 10th grade history teacher was big feminist so I learned the whole story! Also, at age 10 I remember I had to do a history report so I saw a book on Cleopatra and read it front to back. She was so cool! I know a lot of people aren't that lucky so I'm thankful I got to learn this.

Loved this! I know you already covered an Egyptian pharaoh but before Cleo there was another really famous female pharaoh (and the first official female pharaoh) named Hatshepsut, she presented herself in a masculine way in paintings and statues in order to maintain the authority given to pharoahs (who were all male before her), her rule was one of the most prosperous in their entire history, and the successor she had been gearing up to leave things to ended up trying to erase her from history by smashing temples and statues of hers, but it didn't work because we still know about her today. Before her there were queens who ruled Egypt like Nefertiti but Hatshepsut was the first to assume the title of pharaoh. She's really cool and I'd recommend anyone who's interested in Cleo to check her out! (Not me calling her Cleo as if she's my bestie 💀)
Hatshepsut wasn’t the first female pharaoh. And Nefertiti came after her. And while her successor, or more likely her successor’s successor, did attack her monuments and images, that was just increase his own legitimacy for ruling. It wasn’t anything malicious.
I remember one time being in a drive thru at in n out and I was sitting behind this car with some man driving it and it was plastered in Beatles tribute bumper stickers. Which wouldn’t be weird, except that he very specifically had a bumper sticker that was anti-Yoko (I think it was like her name with a crossed out circle over it or something) and directly below that was a sticker that had a quote from the notoriously post-Beatles era John Lennon song “Imagine”. The irony was too painful. The amount of hate Yoko gets from people who are obsessed with John Lennon and his hippy worldview, it makes no sense.

I learned about Franklin but we were always taught in school that Watson and Crick were the only ones to present the discovery because she was a girl

I love your channel, I've been following since COVID started when you were just doing MMMM. I only have ONE suggestion- do NOT blame teachers for not being able to teach you these things. I am a teacher and trust me, I wish nothing more than to have awesome discussions and research projects that report like you do- FACTS. However, the curriculum is dictated to us. It is hard, so hard to have any creative freedom. Make a video about it. About how education ended up in the dumpster in America. We didn't teach you these things because we aren't allowed to. I would love to see a video told by you in which you explain how we ended up with the pipeline system. How education policy is more corrupt than many people imagine.

I'm also an educator and I agree. Research educational figures throughout history, court cases, and the origins of laws around education and you'll see how we ended up where we are. Spoiler alert: we are not trying to teach controversial topics to your 5-year-old.
I had a friend who was a teacher in Guatemala. Same thing. He actually deviated from the curriculum, and when they finally caught him, they fired him. He just refused to conform at that point.
Now he’s broke and so desperate, to the point that we had a problem that ended our friendship 12 years ago, yet, he just wrote me a few weeks ago, without even asking how I was or apologizing for what he did; just to ask me for $200. It must be rock bottom for him to ask me of all people.
That is a GREAT idea! It's the dark history of why and how we don't learn dark history. Bailey definitely needs to do this one!
And if you go off book at all upon risk parents retaliation, or getting fired.

Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton is another amazing woman who often gets left at the sidelines, as much as I love LMM Hamilton musical, her accomplishments are only touched upon there too in the finale of the show. She did so much whilst Hamilton was alive and when he had passed.
Absolutely love this, Bailey 💖I'd love if you could do some research into Mileva Marić. Einstein has always been one of my heros, but looking back, his most ground breaking work came out when he was with her and they were both students in the same school (which she had to be brilliant to even be in that school as a woman).
When I was a kid back in mid 70s, I was the first girl to play on in all-boys league. I was 10 and loved playing baseball. But they would not let play beyond little league. I joined the Air Force and wanted to fly planes, was told no, as it wasn't suitable for girls. I'm happy to see that women's accomplishments are starting to be recognized, but we're still 2nd class citizens. I love that you brought up these women and showed their true accomplishments.
There are women pilots in the Air Force who were born in the mid 70s
I got told by an interviewer for a job he wouldn't hire me because I needed to stay home with my kids. I was a single mother of 3 with no child support...............how am I supposed to feed them then? I didn't turn him in, who would believe me? I just went elsewhere.
@@MF-Dog-Mom yeah, when I went through the Air Force in late 80s, it was a no go for anything other than transport planes, I wanted to fly the fast stuff. I can guarantee the new Top Gun movie coming out will not show women flying the jets, even though they can now.

Ancient Egypt is my guilty pleasure I constantly watch documentaries on ancient Egypt. You could do so many dark history episodes on ancient Egypt cause there are so many cool things about ancient civilizations
Same. I actually named the feral mama cat that had kittens under my deck Cleopatra (aka Cleo) because she is a great leader and keeps all of the males in line. They all also love her. She just happens to be quite a beautiful Manx cat, too. Even though I caught her and got her spayed, she's still the ruler of this street. Osiris and Horus (as well as the others) know their place.

Oh Yoko Ono’s story is making me cry. She’s such an amazing artist and still is to this day. But she did get such bad unfair press it’s so unfair.
She's still a really awful person though. She has absolutely erased John's eldest son even going as far as to sell off all of John's guitars that she didn't want to keep rather than gift any of them to Julian, Julian then had to buy back anything that he wanted to keep from his father. And not for cheap I might add.
I never like Yoko myself. Not because of Lennon but, because of her own actions. I could care less about why the Beatles broke up.

Another woman that doesn’t get enough credit is Hilma af Klint! She was the original abstract artist, a few years before Vassily Kandinsky and Mondrian (who receive all the credit for abstraction). I learned about this from my female art professors!

She wasn't even an especially "beautiful" woman per se, she's just been written that way in history because people couldn't fathom that her intellect and charisma were what influenced so many important men and that the factor of ethereal beauty thus HAD to have been what caused it
I learned about Cleopatra from other people, first by the princess diary series I read as a kid and then from TH-cam channels such as overly sarcastic. Though I like how Bailey talks about the topic I found it strange she didn’t mention that Cleopatra actually killed herself because Octavian planned it humiliate her and she didn’t want to give him that satisfaction. One of the ways Octavian wrote slander against Cleopatra was commissioning Virgil to write The Aeneid.
My best friend is a site engineer for a construction company and is the only woman on site, she has to do the most sometimes because they just don't seem to respect women. I work in medicine and I have a lot of issues with people, it's mostly patients and male physicians. It's still a battlefield out here. It always comes from a lack of respect.
Bailey, I live in Chattanooga. Not even 5 minutes from the Lookouts Engel stadium. In my 38 years of living here, I have NEVER heard of Jackie. We are a baseball family too, my son plays year round, we go to the lookouts often, and still, I had no idea. That infuriates ms to the core. She need so much more recognition, not only here but everywhere in the baseball world. Thank you for doing this story on her. I'm going to spread the news of the Chattanooga woman that struck out Babe!

as a girl engineer, its so hard. im constantly fighting to be trustworthy as if i dont have the same degree as the men do. the amount of times a man has repeated what i had said and gotten credit for it is so frustrating.
As a girl PhD candidate in medical biology.... it's always this. I've been made to feel crazy for saying anything outside the dogma, only for the same professors to come back at me months later saying the same thing as if I never said it! Happens too often to be a coincidence. There's one lab in my department that's essentially all female, and the men always have smth to say about how it must be full of "drama" and "gossip". Lol I've nearly quit multiple times, but we gotta keep fighting to be the change... 😭
