    Let's not forget Hedy's eldest son James. She claimed she adopted him as an infant as she left husband #2 for husband #3. When James was only 11, she sent him away and never saw him again, saying she didn't want him anymore. Only after her death, in which she left him out of her will, did poor James find out he was never was adopted and was her biological son with husband #3. She kept the two other children she had with the same husband. James just recently died in his 80s in 2022. As a mother, a person doesn't get much colder than that.

    • @azahora22

      Why did she get rid of him.and not the others from same husband though? Was he conceived before she left 2nd husband or something? So sad.

    • @betsybabf748
      @betsybabf748 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +61

      @@azahora22 Yes, he was conceived while she was still married to husband #2. She had him, but told everyone, including him and his siblings, that she adopted him. She "gave him back" when he was 11, and it wasn't found out until after her death, when he was in his 50s or so, when DNA then existed, that he was her biological son.

    • @moonyfruit

      Incredibly sad. Not just a testament to how she may have been as a mother, but also to the pressure on women at the time.

      I'm not going to make excuses for this. But I'm also not going to judge something like this either. Times were very different then. There could be several reasons why she claimed adoption. If she's pregnant between husband 2 and husband 3. Neither of the men would claim the child. There's no blood test DNA on Maury to prove paternity. Also husband 3, don't really know much of his real attitude, could have been mistreating and even abusive to James. Should she have just left husband 3? That's not for us to say. Is that what we would do? The majority yes. But not all. Again not making excuses for the way she was with her son. In all actuality he probably had a better childhood and life than her other children.

    • @arielbonzai462

      @@azahora22yes. This would’ve been scandalous. Some women are not cut out for motherhood. Given her interest in radio waves it makes sense. Maybe she didn’t know who the father was. Maybe she did and the third husband wasn’t willing to raise the second husbands son. Certainly he has some role in all this. But….. Again it could be lies. Actresses and other high profile women had great plots constructed around hiding their children when they’re born out of wedlock. It’s kinda hard to fathom. It’s like kids today when you tell them we had phones but they had cords and we had to learn cursive to write out papers. Tell a 20 year old how you did research in a library using phish and encyclopedias that weigh 20lbs each and you’ll see the same reaction any gen after baby boomers have when they hear how devastating it is to lose one’s virtue. Men don’t have virtue to lose btw.

He continued these things and then proceeded to teach himself 5 different computer languages! He designs things on computers and servers where literally nothing else was.
    He now works for a major health insurance company doing computer stuff I can't begin to explain! No degree either! (His college professors didn't know as much as he did so he got aggravated and quit after 2 semesters)

Hearing that a woman was actually the driving force both makes sense as much as it's heartbreaking. Even today, history is written by men.

    Per the inflation calculator; she was making $500/week which comes to $11,004.47/week as of February this year... Holy SMOKES! They were originally offering her $150/week which comes out to $3,301.34/also pretty Flippin dope. Sign me tf up!

    When Mel Brooks was in the process of filming "Blazing Saddles", the story goes that someone raised the concern to Mel that Hedy Lamarr may be upset that Harvey Korman's character was named "Hedley Lamarr", and she may decide to file a lawsuit, to which Mel replied, "If she does, we'll just pay her."
    Apparently, she did, and they did........

    I have always read that Hedy’s last name of Lamarr was chosen because her exotic beauty was reminiscent of the tragic silent star Barbara La Marr.
    Also, most of Hedy’s movies were melodramas that focused on her beauty, but she really shone in comedy roles. She played opposite Bob Hope in “My Favorite Spy” and she was great. Fresh, witty, fantastic timing… I wish she had been able to do more comedies.
