There's a chapter in the book "The Boy Who Was Raised As A Dog" that discusses the 20 children that were let go. It is written by one of the child psychologists who worked with the children. It's really interesting and highly recommend to understand more of the situation from the perspective of the children.
I was literally just gonna comment this!! It’s crazy to think about what could’ve been done if the FBI decided to consider what the psychiatrist was telling them.
@@ange2662 The kids they saved from the first raid drew pictures with houses on fire. The psychiatrist thought this was alarming so let someone from the FBI know but they were stuck on their plan and didn’t consider what he was telling them. So frustrating!
THANK YOU! Dr Perry is my academic hero and hes one of me PhD mentors. He is truly the epitome of what a clinician and researcher should be. He is such an incredible human.
Koresh literally “married” CHILDREN. I could not care less about the legality of that, I would still say that is inherently child abuse. Not to say that the way the ATF / FBI handled the situation was correct and obvi all of the children that died in the compound is an absolute tragedy. I don’t feel even a little bit bad about Koresh dying tho.
It’s 1000% child abuse but it’s strange that it was the ATF serving the warrant. That would be as if a firemen pulled you over on the street and arrested you. Unexpected
But they didn’t come for him because of the child brides...they said he had guns, which he had every right to have. So...who knows what the real deal was.
I was 16 years old when this happened and I remember I was home sick from school and I watched this all go down live on tv, this and the Oklahoma City bombing. The 90's were nuts. The Oklahoma City Bombing would make a great Dark history and so would the Ruby Ridge massacre.
In her bibliography listed in the bio of the video, there was an article about ruby ridge and Waco. It’s a pretty interesting one to explain the correlation.
I remember the OKC bombing from tv. I was on school vacation watching cartoons and they were cut off for live coverage, I remember the OJ car chase too lol

You forgot to also mention that the FBI blocked the exits to their underground tunnels. They found many woman and children stuck in those tunnels, they were trying to get out but couldn't because the FBI blocked those exits. They found them all hugging each other right near the exit 😪.
At the rear of the church the fbi also fired on them with automatic weapons. People trying to escape were shot down or ran back in to avoid the bullets. They did everything they could to make sure the Branch Davidians died in that fire.
I remember hearing about this on the news n thought man the cops dropped the ball. Cuz if they planned it better so many would still be alive. But also wondered how could one man have so much mind control over so many. Women killed their kids n themselves over his word. I still wonder so much but unfortunately noone can tell us inside story
I seen it live on the news the fire 🔥 started right at the time the 'tank' broke part of the wall in the front of the compound as far as people being shot inside I'd rather do that then have a person I loved suffer.. just saying
When I watched the newest movie on this disaster and saw what you are describing, I just bawled. So freakin sad. The government f'd this up so bad and will never be held accountable. I don't necessarily agree with what this group was into or believed in, but we are supposed to be living in a country that does not attack their own people. It is such a black mark on our history.
Bailey I would love to hear you do a deep dive into the Wilmington massacre that happened in North Carolina during reconstruction. It’s such a pivotal historical event that has been so covered up and intentionally suppressed.
I live in & from NC and a lot of people keep it suppressed, they never want to talk about it. I would love if she did, cause it would bring so much to the light!!
As someone born, raised and still living in NC, I would love to see this!! We had a full year of NC history in school yet this was missed. Thankfully, my Dad was into history and he made sure I knew about this!
And the FBI went on the Waco rampage after being on the high of legally executing citizens for not kowtowing to the Government at Ruby Ridge. They got away with the flat out executions of Sam and Vikki, and the same shooters at Ruby Ridge were some of the 1st boots on the ground at Waco. 🤬😥 With that in mind; of COURSE it was gunna be a bloodbath.😥
If they are held accountable for everything they say we wouldn't have a free press. The bad side of a free press is false stuff being reported. But the alternative is a press afraid to print anything in case it turns out not to be true and then there is no watchdog on the government.
Bailey making the seal noise when she was talking about the seven seals had me laughing so hard I had to pause the video for a few minutes. She just cracks me up every single time I watch her videos!!!!!
Bailey is literally the one of two people on TH-cam/internet talking about true crime I can stand. Top tier quality & questioning the yt evils. Yes yes yes! Thanks for not even being a little annoying w/your add breaks & the fact you get into the story very quickly.
This format of learning about subjects you cover in Dark History may seem distasteful and not respectful to some people, but honestly the way you make these horrific events more palatable allows people who would normally stay away from these subjects altogether to further their knowledge of history. Allowing more people in total to learn about these things actually ends up being very respectful, instead of just sweeping it under the rug and pretending like it never happened. I appreciate what you do with this series, and I personally have learned a lot. Happy birthday Bailey, and thank you!
Can we also talk about the fact that the government agencies played the sounds of tortured animals for multiple days as part of the psychological warfare? Bailey did some great coverage on this. If anyone wants to see even more in-depth analysis, Ask A Mortician did an extended version.
Psychological warfare studied and ramped up for decades. 2020 to present.... really took such "skills" and "techniques" to global levels of evil, isolation, manipulation, abuse, and control. Beer-19(84)

The fact that I’m from Texas and Dallas at that and that I remember this being breaking news so vividly is crazy! We watched the whole thing unfold that day. So so sad.
Although I think the DEA and FBI botched this and therefore share responsibility with Koresh for the deaths, I largely blame Koresh. This was a heavily armed compound and it's pretty reasonable to believe child abuse happened when this guy had 14 year old wives, which is child abuse by definition.
I was there on the compound about six months after all this happened. I had been following the story for months at the time and I was so interested in the situation. I remember hating Janet Reno when they plowed into the building and killed everyone! I was sent to Texas on business for 3 days! I got all my work done in 2 days so I could take a trip to Waco. I was just drawn there. It was pretty eerie. The compound was fenced in and there were makeshift crosses all over the pile where the building had once stood. There was a school bus there on the ground and I decided to check it out. There were clothes all over the place inside and I found letters in envelopes that had been sent to family members and friends who were members of the Branch Davidian's, it was really sad. I too felt the whole ordeal was totally uncalled for. Btw, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BAILEY!!! I’m happy that you covered this story!
The Waco raid was such a sad event- literally roasted so many people alive, and made it so they couldn’t escape. Very interesting to watch interviews of the people that were there til the last chance to escape. So sad- David Tibido does a great job of giving how they were feeling Inside- Waco is another great series
@@gachaluna2708 I lived in Cisco at the time, I'd say about 60 miles west on I20 from Waco. I may have been a child at the time, but I do totally remember this happening and seeing it on the nightly news.
My uncle knew a lot of people there because he was living/working in Waco at the time. Some of who got out way before and some that didn't. He would always said "unless you were inside mount Carmel , or out side using psychological war far on children you don't really know what happened. " All I know is it still deeply upsets me.
Same. I knew people in Waco who knew Koresh. My bf used to live down the street from him before the Branch Davidians. I watched it unfold, I saw TV interviews with people I knew. I know what I think happened, I know what they should have done to avoid the whole situation, and I know that I get highly agitated and emotional over this, even now. I don't agree with their beliefs but I believe in their right to hold them. I visit Mt Carmel every April 19th to pay respects.
It’s like, I don’t feel bad for Vernon, or “David” but I feel bad for those who suffered because of him. David and the Government are at fault for the deaths of the followers. Also, the media should be sued for A LOT of situations. Including this one.
Like freedom of press sure but also that does not equal freedom to manipulate other people's point of views for entertainment or person/political gain because that impedes on other people's right to peaceful living. (As it can make them panic or otherwise do things they would not do in the name of survival)
This is my first time hearing exactly what happened at Waco, but the accuracy that was depicted in the Criminal Minds episode "Minimal Loss" is uncanny. There's even a part where the cult leader, Benjamin Cyrus, says "we know what happened at Waco". I applaud the writers for being so accurate.
I've been watching criminal minds non stop for the past few months. Bailey also just did the story about Natalie Holloway and it made me realize that there's a criminal minds episode that is clearly based on that story as well. What a great show, decades later and it is still so meanful.
Okay, I think the way this situation was handled was tragic and beyond messed up.. but there have been a lot of children who where there that where released to the fbi who had admitted that there was abuse and many young girls where sexually abused.
@@barbarakurtz7244 there’s never been any proof of him marrying a 12 year old that I’ve been able to find. I visited Mount Carmel where the siege happened about 15 years ago. It was eerily beautiful. There was a heavy low laying fog that day and it made for a very spooky atmosphere. There was a small church there and a memorial for all the victims who lost their lives in the Waco siege. I don’t know if visitors are still allowed to the site, but I recommend checking it out if you’re in Waco. It has a very heavy feeling, you almost feel like you’re being watched. A really creepy vibe.
Man, I grew up in Texas when this happened. I felt so "crazy" until she told us about the name change. I kept thinking "that's not the name i remember"... i felt so relieved that my memory wasn't wrong. That stuff was nuts
I’m currently doing a project for my social studies fair on the Branch Davidians and this video helped me out a ton! Thank you so much for covering such an intriguing topic!
I went to the Waco site in September and it’s so so sad. The crushed bus is there, they show the hole in the ground where most women and children died and the pool is still there as well. The memorials of all the names and of those who died is heart wrenching.
I truly appreciate your objective telling of history. You pose interesting questions throughout your telling. Keep doing what you are doing! Everyone needs to know history in hopes of not repeating it. thank you
I highly recommend A Boy who was raised as Dog, and it's an account of the psychologist who worked with the children after the incident. Really interesting how they used play therapy to help these children.
MY ACADEMIC HERO!! Dr. Perry recently offered to be my academic mentor😭😭😭😭 he’s been my academic hero since I was a treatment kid at one of the first centers certified to use his NMT approach. No I’m writing my thesis on power and control in these centers. (Also he’s not a psychologist. He’s a neuroscientist and a psychiatrist)
"We investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing." - Government, always It sounds like the feds got in and made the whole thing look like Koresh was a madman like Jim Jones. The bulldozing the remains of the compound kinda reinforces that.
Hey government folks, do you want to admit you messed up, get punished, pay reparations, and for the elected folks- have the bad pr make it hard to get re-elected? No? Well OK, I guess you're all innocent.
Ain't it funny how investigating themselves never finds that they did anything wrong? Next time I'm stopped for speeding can I decide for myself if I'm guilty?
I'll admit the government definitely did things wrong, but the branch Davidians and Vernon were obviously severely mentally ill. I get it, the government committed serious atrocities like supposedly setting the compound on fire, etc., But you must must also consider the factor these insane religious fanatics played a major role in it by doing things like getting involved in shootouts and digging up dead frickin bodies. Yeah, the government took it too far, the branch Davidians brought it to that point though, plain and simple. They were certifiably insane.
Story suggestion :) - The park in Colorado that use to be a cemetery and they tried to move the bodies but then just put dirt over everything and turned it into a park.
My mom always told me bodies were never moved when a graveyard closed, they only moved the headstones... She said it was illegal because it would be desecration of multiple graves... So like my whole life I totally thought such a situation was the norm...
Are you surprised that the media did this? They continue to do this TODAY and yes, they should definitely be held accountable. What’s sadder is that most of our population actually thinks this stuff is accurate.
He was molesting and marrying children in yet another weird religious cult....I don't care what the media said about guns they don't talk about how destructive organized religion is at all.
@@millerkimberly546 The surviving members say he didn't marry children, so where are you hearing that? There is NO proof of this, whatsoever. The jury even found the living members innocent to serve no jail time, but the judge literally overruled their verdict and switched it to guilty.
@@jordanriley5529 WHERE did you get this from? STATE YOUR PROOF. These are things the state said after they accidentally killed 25 children. They NEEDED the public to hate Koresh after that mistake.

There's a chapter in the book "The Boy Who Was Raised As A Dog" that discusses the 20 children that were let go. It is written by one of the child psychologists who worked with the children. It's really interesting and highly recommend to understand more of the situation from the perspective of the children.

I was 16 years old when this happened and I remember I was home sick from school and I watched this all go down live on tv, this and the Oklahoma City bombing. The 90's were nuts. The Oklahoma City Bombing would make a great Dark history and so would the Ruby Ridge massacre.

This format of learning about subjects you cover in Dark History may seem distasteful and not respectful to some people, but honestly the way you make these horrific events more palatable allows people who would normally stay away from these subjects altogether to further their knowledge of history. I was sent to Texas on business for 3 days! I got all my work done in 2 days so I could take a trip to Waco. I was just drawn there.
It was pretty eerie. The compound was fenced in and there were makeshift crosses all over the pile where the building had once stood. It sounds like the feds got in and made the whole thing look like Koresh was a madman like Jim Jones. The bulldozing the remains of the compound kinda reinforces that.

No? Well OK, I guess you're all innocent.
Much like Ruby Ridge and Brian Laundrie.
