Je l'aime tellement !! Dans Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, Mozart... Je l'entends pour la première fois dans Brahms. Elle est merveilleuse, juste merveilleuse.
@@daveholt1325 Thanks. Volodos has a way of dwelling on phrases that I find quite enjoyable. However for sheer rhythmic mastery of the fundamental through line, I have yet to hear the equal of MJ Pires in these intermezzi.
Beautifully done. Impressive. Phrases that speak from distant hallways. Come in and fill my mind with your voices. I want to understand what you have to say in a world with no words - only notes . . .
Brahms intermezzo op117no1 is always my favourite piece.I have heard most of the recordings played by great pianists and in my opinion, this is the best. The interpretations, the touch touch me so much and the playing is exquisite.
Bravo Maria from a long fan of yours since V&P with Dumay. Wonderful long phrases and voicing with a touch of perfection: 1. To Ferdinand in heaven. 2. keeps all 7 together, but 3. traded intimacy for a sense of urgency.
Bravissima. Eccezionale interpretazione. Sono piacevolissimamente sorpreso del suo enorme talento. Complimenti davvero. Ho ricevuto un regalo, ascoltandola. Brahms, poi, è stato un Genio di incommensurabili proporzioni. Lo adoro (assieme a Mozart).
So glad to know she plays late 19th century music . I haven't heard Brahms or Liszt or Schumann ever from this great poet .I must find this album . She plays the Brahms trios and withher former husband the Brahms Sonatas !
I cannot locate a fault in the playing, either on musical grounds or in terms of sound and emotion. Nevertheless, I am not moved by this playing. Perhaps she plays a bit too slowly
Too heavy, too pianoy in my opinion. It is all heavy mechanism......no music.........no soul. NOthing sings. It is just a good old heavy grand piano. No magic I am afraid. Listen to the rubinstein 1941 recording. NOw there the piano and the sad soul of Brahms sings out and from an 80 year old recording. It is all about soul not ivory keys, guys.
Sorry to get personal, but it simply is the case that you have no idea what you are talking about. If your observations had any bases in fact, you could be taken seriously, but, for example, you complain that her playing is "...heavy" when on listening to only the first bars of Ms. Pires' Op.117 No. 1, one is struck but the extreme delicacy of her playing...
She has a special touch and sensibility. She has the ability to carry you away to other realms.

I was once again impressed by how soft and gentle it would sound in the hands of masters.
I've listened to several renditions of Op.117 this morning and I believe I've struck gold with this one.
Make sure you listen to Arcadi Volodos playing this he reduces me to tears!
@@daveholt1325 Thanks. Volodos has a way of dwelling on phrases that I find quite enjoyable. However for sheer rhythmic mastery of the fundamental through line, I have yet to hear the equal of MJ Pires in these intermezzi.
This is very nice. Also listen to Radu Lupu. He captures a fragility that is very moving.

Bravissima, Maria João Pires
grande pianista portuguesa.
Orgulho Lusitano 🇵🇹
What a delicate touch, so much nuance!
sweet sweet sound
that caresses my ears,
reach the heart and flood it.❤
Thank you❤
One of the most underrated pianists of the age. A true genius.
She is a much better pianist than argerich.
@@jacopastorius319 You can hardly compare them since they both play a very different repertoire!
@@jacopastorius319 I wouldn't go that far-. It's like saying steak is superior to sorbet. Also, Argerich's Chopin Preludes are superior imo.
Argerich is from another planet I would certainly not substitute one for the other we need both of these pianists in our lives!
Underrated ????
Thank you for posting this! One can never have enough Maria João Pires...and this performance is truly sublime!
So beautiful and moving. MJP shapes the music in such a way that you believe she is a person you would love to have as a friend.
She's astounding. This is sublime playing. I love Brahms's piano music so much. :-)

merveilleuse pianiste dans un répertoire qui l'est tout autant.
Sans doute l'une des plus grandes interprétations.

Absolutely ethereal and mesmerizing...way up there with the likes of Sokolov and Lupu. Thanks for posting!
I fully agree with you.
I'd rather listen to Pires than Sokolov any day of the week
@@michaelrogers5495 I think it's just a matter of opinion; both are top-notch pianists any way one looks at them. Cheers.

She really does play it wonderfully, doesn't she?

She plays brahms with the golden tone of Rubinstein. I like also her recordng of the Brahms piano Trio no.1. Great!
Eccellente
Excelentes interpretaciones. En ellas se asoma el lado femenino y sensible del enorme genio hamburgués. Thumbs up. Hats off...

Much better than Schiff's performance of the same works.
a wonderful performance, but ruined by advertisements stuck in a bar before the end of a piece
TH-cam, Why should there be an Ad of vodka between Brahms piece?!!
No.3 in measure 48 LH should be d natural instead of D sharp
