This is, in my view, the best performance of op117 since Gould. While Gould polished out the shinier aspects (and called it the sexiest piece he has ever played), Vogt captures the melancholy and 'Innigkeit' (untranslatable term) with unprecedented concentration and intensity. He sadly died yesterday, a great loss to music and this here is his epitaph.
Dankee!
This is some of the most extraordinary Brahms playing I have ever heard. The acoustics, the piano, and the recording quality are all top notch, but ultimately it's the magic of the sound he creates.
I must admit, I prefer this tempo the most. I think this piece should never lose sight of the waltz from which I believe it is derived, so if it’s played too slowly it becomes mired and portentous - even sentimental.
Rest in peace Lars! We will miss you! Thanks for your passion, your humanity and your kindness.

Gould was awful.

Wundervoll :)
You should hear his Janacek, “In The Mist.” His playing goes beyond struggle or doubt; bringing the music. As it is.

Sad. His professional life, as an interpreter, was really just beginning.
The volume is too low. Can barely hear it.
