Ordering espresso in Catalan

Barcelona is a beautiful city on the coast of Spain that receives millions of tourists each year. It is the capital of the Catalonia autonomous region of Spain, where Catalan is spoken as a first language alongside Spanish by millions of people. It is similar to Spanish but quite distinctive in its own right as a Romance language, mixing elements of Occitan, French, and Italian, and it is very fun to try to speak it with locals!

They're not wrong either, I never got pickpocketed in Barcelona but I was warned by one guy on the beach to not leave my bags unattended as thieves regularly target the tourists

Pick pockets in big cities specifically target tourists. Thats why theyre warning you. Theyre very kindly telling you that youre sticking out like a sore thumb haha

It is very difficult to find people who speak Catalan in places as touristy as La Boquería. It's like when you were in Bilbao. Spanish predominates in large cities, so you have to go to smaller cities or rural areas. I recommend you to travel to the provinces of Guipuzkoa and Girona if you want to find more traditional environments, and go directly to the interior areas (touristic≠traditional).

They are being real and quite kind warning you. BCN has some of the fastest and craftiest "pickpocket" teams in the world. They are so skilled they would steal the socks off your feet while you were wearing boots and you would not know until you got a blister 😂
