  • We undertake an epic five hour long, non-stop cross-country from Colorado to Texas. This is the first trip vlog since my channel reboot. Come ride along and see the thought process to manage a long flight such as this.

Pretty much made this same routing when a friend in Ingleside, Texas bought a Cessna 401, but he only had a private license single engine land. He called me in Fort Worth and asked me if I would go get it for him. I went up to Montrose and was surprised when I saw the plane as it had a new paint job, panel and brand new turbo engines. The plane preformed great. I went a little different then you did...more to the East and went right over the top of Alamosa at 17.5 to Raton, New Mexico and then went down to 11.5 and right next to the old volcano while setting up to make a stop in Amarillo. I was hungry and had to whizz, so it is time to find a spot. The 401 surprised me and did great as the turbos were doing what they were suppose to do. Left Amarillo and up to 9.5 to Oak Grove airport in Burleson, Texas to go home for the night. Got up the next morning and went to Port Aransas as my buddy was the air port operator. he had about 250 hours in a single and I worked with him for 10 days to the point that I felt warm and fuzzy for him to take his multi. He passed with flying colors. My friend passed away a few years ago and his wife asked me how to sell the plane and I got her in contact with a friend who is an airplane broker and sold the plane for the asking price. Been in a 310 a few times with friends and I sure do like them but for now, I will stay with my T210.

105 gallons! That’s pretty good for nearly 5 hours of flying! Jb.

Nice job on this video. I enjoy your attention to detail and your down to business attitude. Sadly too many TH-cam avaiators feel they have to be entertainers first, (always yak, yak, yakking) and pilots second. Keep on maing videos and trips,

Nice flight, Jason. What impressed me the most was your careful pre-flight planning and conscientious, conservative operation of your airplane. I'd be comfortable flying with you anywhere.

Great video! Just an observation...My left main gear green light would also delay 1-2 seconds after the other two, and eventually it would not lock down. I had my mechanic adjust the spring tension on the left main gear, and now all three green lights, basically, come on simultaneously.

Great job. Love the video and the flight. Information you shared was very detailed and helpful on Cessna 310. You pointed out everything about the flight. Keep making more videos like that. Thanks!

Welcome back Jason. I’ve watched your old videos numerous times! This isn’t the same 310 you had a few years back is it!? If my memory is correct didn’t you accept employment in Europe? Again, welcome back! I own a T210M and tie down at KMEV..

Good to see your back Jason. What happened to your old bird? We flew a 1955 and a 1969 C310P for nearly 25 years. Love the Cessna 310😁👍👍

Thanks! I love your films as well. My old bird was sold in 2012 when I took a job overseas. I just moved back in 2018. Regards, -Jason

Look into a Continental bulletin about not running below 2300 RPM. It concerns the counter weights getting out of balance. Relates to IO470, IO520, & IO550 motors. Great video, I want to do some outwest flying with my R model, and this gives me some idea of the climb performance that I will see.

Hi Mickey. Yea the bulletin specifically refers to IO-470-G and -N. I keep meaning to ask the Twin Cessna Flyer association for clarification as the 310 has IO-470-VO in it. The bulletin lists out specific 'dash' letters (suffix). Thanks for watching!

Can you hold altitude on one engine with less density altitude. Is there a magic number?

Nice video Jason. You have shown the Songbird's utility as a cross country machine as well as a comfortable chariot thru the mountain passes. The -Q model in my experience has the more reliable( IO-470VO)engines and avoids the "oil canning" noise of the long nosed C310R.
I was always nervous when nearing the end of burning from aux tanks(tho having 31.5 gal in each wing lessened concern over running a tank dry). The previous owner had run one dry at cruise with his mother in law in the back seat, and cautioned me to avoid this scenario(took several seconds for the engine to resume power). I have been fortunate to have a totalizer on subsequent twin flights; this helps alot in timing the switch back to mains. One should prob. leave ~5 gal. behind in the aux.Fuel selector integrity, like landing gear, rates high on the list of ongoing maintenance issues for obvious reasons.
Consider a portable oxygen concentrator for flights in the low teens(now available on used market). Their intermittent (pulsing) and adjustable pressure should be less drying(and more comfortable)on nasal & oral mucosa.
Also, expect to pick up 5-10 ktas if you ever deboot wings & tail on these babies(even with VG's!).Mine got 180 ktas@22gph after I did that.
