    How does one afford a $300K airplane?

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure how to answer that question? A lot of people around the world could ask the same question about a $20K car!

    • @bday55
      @bday55 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FlyingwithRich Well in most 1st world countries, most people can finance a $20K car. And a car can be considered a necessity esp in non-urban places. I guess my question is how much do you have to earn yearly to afford something this expensive that at best is a cool hobby (unless you are starting an airline)?

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have lots of customers who use aircraft for efficient business travel - fewer who consider it a “cool hobby.” As far as what you need to earn - really dependent on many factors, where you live, what other expenses you have, how you plan to pay for it, is it a business asset or personal use - the list goes on and on. An aircraft owner has to have income that is certainly in the higher income levels, but that can be said for a lot of things. I guess in my opinion, your question is too vague to answer.

    • @bday55
      @bday55 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FlyingwithRich I think I was interested on how one finances a plane. It's probably different than financing a car. On a $100K plane how and where does one finance that or do people pay cash? The fuel, airport storage, maintenance etc I understand. Is it like owning a $100K boat?

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can finance a plane with basic terms - 20% down, 15 year amortization. Rates similar to what you can get on a house. We work with several lenders.

    The 310 is a very underrated airplane. It is over shadowed by the bigger Cessna twins and Barons, but the 310 is very good. It is a very smooth and easy to fly airplane, with awesome visibility. The 310 is very comfortable, it makes a great family sized cross country hauler. While the market on twin pistons is shrinking, the 310 is a great option as the 310s hold their value pretty well.

    I'm a non-pilot, but if I were, and had my MEL, I'd do something like this. I saw Controller has a 2022 Cessna 172 for like $655,000. If it was my money, I'd get something older and well gone over. I see Rich has a lot of planes for less then $200,000 (a couple Mooneys, etc). Prices for new planes is out the roof right now.

  • @EtiRats
    @EtiRats ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Rich, nice video. Isn’t great how those old 310s can carry on, even at 9500 hours on the airframe? The avionics upgrade really give them a new lease of life, and if the maintenance and any corrosion issues are kept on top of they’ll keep on trucking!
    The big question one has to ask though, is how much of a market is there for these old piston twins today? Most of the manufacturers seem to have lost faith in this class of aircraft, when compared to the proliferation back in the ‘60, ‘70 and ‘80s (with a few exceptions). Is it their operating cost, or just that high end singles can do so much these days, with similar proven safety margins?
    Over here in 🇬🇧 UK, operating costs are just killing us. I’m sure you think your Avgas prices in the States are crazy high right now, but for comparison the UK average is about £2.30 per litre = £10.44 per imperial gallon = £8.66 per US gallon = $10.75 PER US GALLON ……!
    So if your 310 is burning around 25 USG / hr we’re looking at $268 per hour, and that’s just in fuel costs.
    And if your tanks hold 140 USG, that makes it $1505 for a full load of avgas.
    Anyway, keep doing what you’re doing, and thanks for showing us Matteo and his filming skills. That’s a whole job in itself, especially the post production editing 👍

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I agree most manufacturer’s have written off the piston twins - too bad such wonderful airplanes. Here in the US market seems strong for them right now - and yes if our fuel prices went to where your’s are the market would suffer. Thanks for the message and thanks for watching!

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think best to access it from a total time, complete logs, damage history point of view. Let’s say it has no damage, complete logs and low-mid airframe time. It would be definitely be worth bringing back to life. On the other hand if damaged, missing logs, high time -maybe not worth putting time/money into. Chino is close so if I can help, let me know.

    • @FlyingwithRich

      Likely power would be pulled back so the aerodynamic impact of the engine out is minimal. However, if the pilot panics and executes a single engine go-around and adds full power and pitches up too abruptly - likely VMC roll.

    If I may, one constructive criticism. We don't see enough of the the cabin on these planes, the video itself and the explanation is more on the cockpit work, plane capability and sometimes exterior. If we can see the cabin space, how many people it fits and help visualize the experience for a potential buyer . It will help showing the wives of pilots where they will be lounging. As a real estate developer I learned early on that the wife buys the house.
