If everyone who carried concealed decided to open carry, the amount of guns you would physically see out in public would be enormous. Open carry would suddenly turn into a not so "dangerous" activity. If you're commonly walking around in public with friends or a significant other, then open carry together or as a group. Numbers matter in regards to deterring criminals too.

As long as it's legal in a state, then it's legal for truck drivers as well. The one caveat to this, in ANY state, is that trucking companies, or insurance providers, may prohibit carrying a firearm in the truck. (Many, if not most, do.) Actually, I've had people complain about people open carrying at a BBQ that I host once a month during the warmer months in a public park in Minnesota. The anti-gunners in MN have been keeping track of the records of ALL people with handgun carry permits. It turns out that we are between 4 to 11 times LESS likely to commit a crime (depending upon the crime category) than people WITHOUT handgun carry permits! I don't think that they expected that.

    • @deucedeuce1572
      @deucedeuce1572 ปีที่แล้ว +5

...that's why Rights require no permit. Even the supreme court solidified this in the Bruen ruling. A permit is NOT required to carry concealed, as concealed carrying is every bit a Right as open carry. The Right to bear arms is the Right to bear arms. Matters not how or where you carry. Of course, that won't change the fact that we are a nation of Cowards, who will beg permission to exercise Rights... then act as if someone else is responsible for our unjust gun "laws". Cowards get the tyranny that cowards deserve, because cowards get the tyranny that cowards allow (and therefore create for themselves).

I have been open carrying daily since 1996 without issue from Seattle to Boise to Vegas to Phoenix with no problems ever. Concealed carry makes you look like a personal gun free zone and open carry projects visually you are a hardened target. The fact is, there is just not any overwhelming evidence that open carry is more dangerous. There have been very, very, very limited incidents of OCers that are victim of crimes, or commit crimes. OTH there have been numerous incidents of both with conceal carry, and even if justified, any shooting is is going to be life changing. Personally I think the whole I wanna surprise the bad guy thinking is bad, and WILL come back to bite you in court if you are on record. Heck, right now there is a Colt SAA under my desk, while behind me is a open, ready to go compound bow behind me on the wall. I carry open but conceal my BUG, I don't want to "surprise" anyone, or be surprised, or be a victim. I know that for myself, and probably most people I don't want to get shot. So what makes people think that criminals want to get shot, why not pick the safest victim to commit a crime. Ya know someone who is, or appears to be unarmed.

Long story short, they told me that unless there's RAS, or you're the subject of a call, as long as you have a clean record it's almost impossible to charge you with concealed carry without a permit. Hi Hegshot, great video. There are, as you know, different reasons for open or concealed carry. One issue that seems to be rarely addressed is the reason for open carry. Is it actually to gain access to the firearm more quickly when needed, or as we in law enforcement would sometimes refer to as the: " Look at me i have a gun" mindset. It is my opinion that this mentality is far greater than many open carry people perhaps wiah to admit. This type of person for whatever reason, may believe they are ready for any situation, and even hope to have a reason to "take charge" in certain situation(s) where actually they don't have the ability or training to do so. Again, i am not referring to those who open carry with the right intentions, continually training and always remembering that "deadly force" should be the last option that can never be reversed. Stay safe.

One other point i failed to mention is the value of gun retention . In those scenarios, there are those who have the ability to remove a firearm, even with security holsters. In our police academy, we learned that those incarcerated particularly in state prisons, practice disarming technques on a regular basis. Then when released, that training is taken back and taught on the street, to disarm police officers. It doesn't matter what level or security system of the holster, that problem will always exist. This is is why situational awareness is so critical and don't just rely on a holster. Stay safe.

As someone who prefers CC, I like your point, but I will offer a slight counterpoint on the “culture” aspect of CC vs OC. I definitely see the “hero complex” in gun culture from OC but I’m not sure you can’t reach that conclusion from many CCers logic as well, and I’ll explain what I mean. I totally buy the tactical advantage of CC if shit does hit the fan, it’s why I prefer it, but I do get the sense that many bring this up but overlook the possible preventative advantage of OC. IMO, some CCers give the sense that they’d rather have a tactical advantage in a defensive incident than prevent it totally. Now on both sides, these numbers are small and I truly believe that most who carry are a force for good, but I think the “I want to conceal so I can surprise the criminal instead of possibly deterring him,” can come from the wrong place in the same way as the “I want to be the big tough guy with the gun” mentality.
Funnily enough, the example in the video of having a yard sign announcing the presence of security at the house was used to defend CC, but I think it’s actually a better argument for the deterrence that open carry might offer. Ultimately it’s situational and I commend anyone who chooses to carry responsibly

Here in CA, open carry is illegal, but even concealed carry needs to be done properly because most people here are ignorant when it comes to guns. I have a CCL and do 'cover' when in a public place I consider safe from surprise personal attacks (like restaurants, stores, etc.). When I am on the streets I generally go IWOC because my draw is an estimated 0.5 seconds faster when I don't have to first 'uncover'. I recognize the vulnerability risks and up my situational awareness to compensate (although it is usually on high because - well, because it really needs to be in today's world; that's why I carry.) Being ex-military security I am more than proficient with my iron sights but I keep a green Trigger Guard laser on my gun so I can shoot from the waist if need be. This cuts my response time by 0.25 to 0.50 seconds, and I do not have to come to a full formal shooting stance - and my hit will be within one inch of the green dot. Yes, it gives away my position - so what? If this isn't already known it is unlikely I am justified in shooting. Realistically, I live in an urban area, any self defense I can justify using a gun for will be under 15 yards so point of aim and my hip aimed laser are my major quick response practice areas. If I am concealing and am approached by suspicious or threatening individuals situational awareness should give me a heads up and I will uncover before they get too close. I know they are possible, but I believe finding myself in a situation where the element of surprise would make a significant difference to be statistically extremely small.

There is nothing wrong with open carry if you are smart with it. I did it over a year on my 3 o'clock. Most people never noticed due to my positioning and relaxed demeanor. I also had a locking retention holster in case someone saw and went for it. I never let people linger behind me and always kept situation awareness. One time I was in a pet store and the manager's son spotted it on my hip ( I didn't realize it was take your child to work day) she proceeded to follow me around the whole store and checked me out herself when I was done shopping. She was very rude and short with me. Kinda confusing why you would mess with an armed person like that 😂 Even if I was a danger... Why would you be rude and try to piss me off? I could potentially save your life! There was also one time when i was in the city and 3 men were following me around sizing me up. They followed me at least a mile and I chose indirect paths to verify that they were indeed following me in particular. Once it was clear I stopped and leaned against a wall turning to show my OWB holster on my hip. They took notice and dispersed in the opposite direction. I heard a low "oh sh!t" and they were gone. I didn't have to say a thing or throw a nasty look at all. It is definitely a deterrent.
I had to open carry while I waited for my CCL to process. My county took over a year and a half to process it. It was pathetic.

Another common scenario I find myself in is that I start out the day concealing my handgun with a hoody or flannel shirt but my firearm still on my belt because it’s chilly in the morning but as it gets warmer throughout the day and I shed my layers I become an open carrier and it does attract a few looks but it’s not uncommon to my immediate area for people to open carry and most people who live here keep a rifle of some sort in their vehicle throughout the day as well for a multitude of different reasons.

The problem of having your gun taken from you while you're open carrying can be mitigated with a proper holster that has a retaining device.
Also, how many crimes have been prevented from even happening because the would-be criminal saw you with a gun, and decided to go somewhere else.

Actually, because criminal aggression did not occur, no one (except the criminal) knows if the open carry was a deterrent. So, not a reasonable argument. It might be true, but it can't be proven.

@@gregdamario5808 Just because we can't conduct an exit interview with criminals, or would-be criminals, as to why they did, or did not, commit a crime, doesn't mean the argument is unreasonable. The CDC concluded that roughly 50 million (on the low end) lives are saved per year by defensive use of a firearms. And of those 50 million, the overwhelming majority had no shots fired. With no shots fired, that means the mere presence of the gun was able to deter the criminal, or would-be criminal.

On November 2, 2017, at the age of 80, I was assaulted in my own driveway by two young men in broad daylight. They found out very quickly that they had bitten off more than they could chew. There's nothing more dangerous than a pist off old man with a gun. From that day forward however, I no longer carried concealed. The gun on my side for all to see is like a sign on my fence that says, “Beware of this old Dog, he bites”. People look at me a little weird, but they leave me alone. Recently, a high-ranking officer from the local Police Department, registered his disapproval of my open carry policy and claimed a bad person would see me as an opportunity for a free gun. I will not be drawn into an argument. I don't care about your opinion. The only question the police can ask is, is it legal? In Rhode Island it is legal with the proper permit but in all my years, I have never met another person exercising that right. About the statement that I could be viewed as an opportunity for a free gun, such a decision could be hazardous for one's health. I can assure you it would not end well. - An armed society is a polite society.

I’m one of the “fluffy” guys😂, I’ve tried concealed IWB, works ok with the right holster but my preferred method is OWB with a higher ride on the holster. For me, easier access and conceals just as easily. Either way IWB or OWB ill be wearing a shirt to cover it up. I carry a Glock 19 with a Tlr7 and Holosun red dot. Conceals very well. Does the heel print when i bend over? Yes. But at least in can bend over a lot more comfortably. Also sitting in a vehicle is much more comfortable. But i also have a ready holster i transfer the gun to on longer road trips. Just my 2 cents and how it works for me. Be safe and keep carrying.😊

Either way open or concealed, the gun shirt, gun hat, gun tattoos, gun stickers etc. is what I see before anything. Attire matters. if your really not wanting to draw attention ditch the “I’m a soldier” look and try to blend in. Looking tuff doesn’t always work. Being just another potential victim until it’s time to defend is what seems to be the best. That being said, open carry also works fine too. When in Rome…

Love the outro song. I live in very rural VA. I carry 100% of the time I leave the house. The only place I don't carry is where it's prohibited BY LAW. I'm even armed at the house about 75% of the time. Half the time I open carry & half the time I conceal carry. I'm under the belief if more people saw open carry, they would become more comfortable seeing people armed. The liberal-left has forced me to feel, if you're offended by my firearm, I really don't care. I've also had several conversations get started about firearms and protecting life. Who knows if someone's on the fence about getting a firearm, maybe what I can explain to them will convince them to purchase their first one. On the other hand, if I go into unknown territory, cities, or very crowded areas I definitely conceal carry. It goes to the target/theft idea. I also conceal carry inside many businesses such as banks or movie theaters, anywhere you might consider it, maybe a, "semi sensitive area." I guess all-in-all, taking a thought from the left, it all depends on how I "feel." LOL. I guess call me, carry fluid? 🤭

    Let me add another perspective:
In today’s Karen world; open carry will inevitably draw attention from SOMEONE who doesn’t think anyone but police should be carrying a firearm.
Kinda like, during deer season when someone has a deer plainly visible in the back of their truck, and some animal rights activist goes nuts, when all you really had to do, was throw a tarp, or a couple’a bags of ice on top.

Now if you want to correct that to being prepared it might not sound so bad to a jury. Let's be very clear, your chances of being prosecuted, depending on state, are high even if it is just 1%, it is not worth it.
