    Because of this video, I drove up from Chula Vista today to hopefully pick up a 15 gallon Reed. I had no sooner pulled in and parked than here comes Tino - What a nice guy!!! I told him what I was looking for and he showed me several Reeds in 15 gallon pots which were pretty small compared to the other trees. I decided to pick up two Reeds and two Gems in the sleeves instead. Tino said he would go to find some which were "mas nicer" and when he came back a few minutes later he had four beautiful trees which I gladly purchased. The Reeds were $34 each and the Gems were $36 each. Thanks for sharing with us on TH-cam and kudos to Maddock and especially Tino!.

    Loving the content! Btw, how deep does the tap root of an avocado can go? Can I plant a mexicola 1-2feet away from underground transmission/power lines that are about 4-5 feet deep?

    • @TheElsinoreGardener
      @TheElsinoreGardener  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Avocado roots don't have Tap roots per se. According to UC Riverside field experts 60% of avocado roots are in the top 3" and 90% are in the top 9 inches. Roots will only grow down as far as they can get oxygen and water. I doesn't drop a tap root straight down like a Moringa tree does.

    Thank you!! I'm planning to buy a few 15 gal trees there after seeing this. These will be my first avocado trees, and I'm limited to containers since I'm renting a house for at least a few years. If you could only buy 2 (or 3) avocado trees for growing in containers, which type would you buy and why? Is it important to get a Type A and Type B? I live in Manhattan Beach, CA, with average high of 80 in summer and low of 50 in winter. Do you know of a good place to buy trees closer to Manhattan Beach?

    • @TheElsinoreGardener
      @TheElsinoreGardener  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      CovertOpsXX I love the Reed avocado and would always have one of those in my collection. If you only have limited space and don’t want a Hass avocado (the standard that all other avocados are measured by) anything will grow in your area. Stay away from Fuerte, it just wants to grow into a large tree. I have had success with Sharwill, Sir Prize, Gem, Carmen and Jan Boyce. If you could find a Carmen that would be a good one to grow in a container. It’s a Hass hybrid and blooms up to 3 times a year in optimal conditions

    We live in Vegas and we bought a GEM avocado tree about 2.5 feet tall in a 5 gal pot three weeks ago in Fallbrook area. We water every two days but the leaves started turning brown two weeks ago and looks like it is dying 😢 Do you think it is too hot for the tree here? It has been 100+ temperature everyday but we have it under the patio roof though.

    • @TheElsinoreGardener
      @TheElsinoreGardener  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The soil could also be the issue. If it is a woody based soil it will die if you water it too much. Check out my video on how to change the soil on an avocado tree
