You getting this MPC is literally the best thing that’s ever happened. My ADD butt is going to learn so much that I don’t have the attention span to learn from the manual. 🔥🙏
The manual is useless, besides pointing out the functions and names of the machine’s knobs and buttons , the MPC bible is more helpful but has to be purchased
MPC is really awesome - it has so much without deep menu diving. Sometimes frustration is just a result of not knowing of the workflow. Thanks for the video!
I have just discovered your channel and am really enjoying your videos. I have just ordered my MPC One, due to arrive tomorrow so will be like a kid in a toy shop when it arrives. I really like your style of delivery, you are not coming across as someone who knows everything, but you’re just diving in and playing which is refreshing. And your enthusiasm is infectious!
Thanks so much! My perspective is definitely an interesting one. Decades of musical experience but only a couple years in the electronic game. So I know stuff, but not really hahahaha. Thanks for watching!
you can also directly record the same as XYFX automation by switching to the red mode in the upper right corner of the R or W icon, and delete or correct the automation in the same way in the piano roll.
Good explanation. I wanted to point out, though, that even now the automation for plugins is kind of messy: it is applied to the program, so every track that uses that program will receive the same filtering, but there's no point in wanting different trakcs and patterns to follow the same automations (and this automation is only visible in one of those tracks).
@@FreeBeat because I know one can set that up in the qlinks but I’ve never seen anyone do it on how to really set it up and then use it on different sequences
It's literally like watching a daily ad about the mpc one. The difference is, that i click on it voluntairy. 😂 Right now i watch every video! Btw. I met a freebeat viewer under a random mpc video. 😂
The nice thing is you can use it to hold loops on continuously and then play the pads on the MPC which is normally only available in clip mode. Just go midi in push the hold button and then press a key on Microfreak. I did this the other day. It’s a work around for the lack of hold feature on MPC. You can do the same thing with other controllers if they have hold.
The mpc can do much more than the 707, but the Roland sound module is crazy good sounding. The mpc plugins are good, but it's more about bringing your own sounds.
@@FreeBeat i was trying to automate a a low pass filter on my main melody. I finally got there by having the automation on and then pressing overdub. Then i recorded the thing normally. Thank you very much for this video. I basically added the poor man's XYFX :D
How did you make it work in real time on your track ? I learned it yesterday but it only works on program. Do i need to change a setting in prefrences in midi , turn syn and global on ? Got my mpc one last week and before tgat only 2 months on mpc beats with a mpk mini so still a nooby
Thanks a lot for this! Really easy to understand! But one thing is still unclear for me. Is there a possibility to easily record CC Values all located on the first beat without using List mode? I have the NTS-1 attached to my MPC and just want to record all or specific initial CC values. Any idea? Thanks a lot!
I don't know, you may have been too enthusiastic before you tried some real world knob twiddling. Now, I've only had my Live II for a few days but I'm coming to the conclusion that automation on the MPC is just broken and just about unusable when you come to use it for real. I'd really appreciate it if you could try this simple test with what could be the start a poly-rhythmic sequence: 1. Create a 12 bar sequence. 2. Create a track of 1 bar with TubeSynth. This will repeat for 12 bars. 3. Create some automation of one of the TubeSynth parameters that you would like to repeat over that one bar. Say you would like to change the OSC 1 type on the 1st and 4th beat of that one repeating bar. Do this is in the step sequencer. As far as I can see, the notes will repeat for the 12 bars but the automation only occurs on the first bar. Now try automating track mutes over that 12 bars after you have created some more tracks. The reverse seems to apply: the mutes repeat` loop over and over that first bar with the notes but not over the whole 12 bars as you might expect. As I said, I may be missing something so it'd be great if you could look into this please. I bought this machine based on glowing reviews from TH-cam but I don't think any one cared to share this problem. (Using MPC LIve II version 10.01)
I've actually quite enjoyed the automation haha. But I'll have to give your challenge a shot. I use my MPC more as a traditional composition device rather than an electronic jamming device so my automation needs sound quite a bit different than yours though. Thanks for watching!
how do you automate, so that you land on the same level? Let's say you're at +1,9 db, and you bring the volume down with automation. How the hell do I get back exactly on point where it was?
Hey I’m getting a few pops when using the default piano sounds . Do you have any one on one lessons ? Or anyway to contact you to help answer a few questions?
Interesting, which piano expansion are you using? I have a patreon page (link in description) which gives you access to our private discord server. There are a few MPC owners in there as well as myself that might be able to help you out.
any idea why my automations wont export the way I have them set up? sometimes they record in correctly when exporting, sometimes they screw up and dont automate correctly when exporting.
Does anyone knows if its possible to (record) automate a paramater, like for instance 'the lowpass' but not for 1 chop/sample but for multiple or all at once? It seems like it doesnt work. Mayb its my Mp or de update, im on 2.10 right now. somebody? thx
@@FreeBeat there's an even easier more direct 3rd way. just click the 2nd icon from the right on the top of your screen. On any screen. It will turn from a green R (read) to a red w (write). Just move the parameter you want to automate, when in write mode. Just be sure to turn if back to read mode (automation off).
@Selahl Tapes that's literally one of the two ways explained in the video. I was just pointing out that on any screen of the mpc that there's a parameter that can be automated, there' s also the icon to toggle read/write mode on screen, shift+step sequence is exactly an extra step , 2 clicks vs 1 touch. I could keep on explaining it in different ways, if necessary.

awesome! your instincts on choosing cool sounds on the fly are killer. you are really making something out of the confinement!
Haha thanks! I just pick whatever I think sounds cool lol.
To set how precisely you can draw in automation just adjust (or turn off) the quantization.
Thanks!!
Great job especially for your first go at it. Thanks. This helped me out alot.
Glad to help!

I love your work ethic man, you inspire me to learn more! keep going
Thanks so much!
Explained beautifully 👍👽

When you automated a parameter you can edit it in the grid for more precision turn off TC quantize
Extra tip, use a stylus on the touchscreen
