I just bought an MPC ONE and my first big question was exactly how to map and modify effects while playing. So thanks a lot for this great demo and deep explanation!! 🙂
First time ever posting a comment on TH-cam and close to 10 years of viewing. Just had to say that this was really inspiring. Super catchy. Going to play hooky from work right now and run home and start playing on my MPC.
If you add an Faderfox EC4, its like having 16Q Links on the MPC One. (And it can map more parameters on different pages, and show which parameter its controlling.)
OMG.. i should watch this ultra informative video 1 week before.. but anyway definitely super great useful info about Qlinks !!! thanks a lot Tefty !! 🙏❤
Great video. Is it possible to add different functions to different q link banks? For instance bank A is on screen functions, bank B custom. Thank you!
i always ignored submixes and returns, never really understood why i would use them on my Mpc. but this was great to learn, and i mean great. makes me appreciate the mpc even more, and definitely gets my ideas going with what else i can do 🤔
I'm intersted in how you organise your live sessions on the MPC. Are you triggering samples, in this example? How do you set that up? Have you done a video on this yet? (lots of questions!). Thanks for the content - really helpful stuff.
hi, do you know if it's possible to map/assign Pitch Bend to one of the Qlink knobs? let's say, if I want to apply pitch bend to a bass note recorded into the sequencer or in real time performance?
For controlling multiple effects with one knob, maybe using the sends can allow you to affect multiple effects mix at the same time, if you can adjust the send mix with the q link
So the send is definitely one option, but if you want to control different effects on different programs, then you're still out of luck. Maybe in the future 🙏
Would be it similar or even better to put the vocal delay and reverb on a return channel instead of directly on the submix. Then you could automate or live perform the mute on/off of the return or the actual send level to the return. Idk
oldish video but hopefully this is still helpful. Having a qlink control multiple insert parameters is not possible; but if you hook up an external midi controller, you can have as many parameters as you'd like all assigned to the same knob/fader
I have an MPC live 2 and I wish that all banks of the Q link at least the top knob could be dedicated to tempo. Please help! I just use the mpc as a drum machine for solo singing/piano gigs.
For using the knob with an fx on my snare for exemple,,it s submixes? I don t understand i just want reverb on my snare, and contrloled with the knob, sorry i'm french
Anyone know if it's possible to Midi Map the Q-Link Options to a Novation SL Zero MK II? I'd love to utilize the Q-Link Edit functions and be able to actually have a visual on what it is I'm editing rather than having to remember each parameter
Dug this video up, speaking to knob limitations and multi-function, I’m curious if you think running an MPD218 or similar pad controller would be useful for production or workflow, aside from performance play? I’ve seen them used for effects and track mutes, could they be useful in other ways? Or has mpc3 brought multifunction to the knobs?
Have you given any thought to using an external midi controller to use for performance? I use a MidiFighter Twister which has sixteen knobs that give you both push control and relative control
it's cool but I always struggled with external controllers, Midi informations sometimes crashed. wouldn't take MPC One on stage with external controller.
Great Video, really helped me a lot. BUUUUT I have one very important question: How can I save the Q-link mapping for a certain project. When I re-opened the project this morning none of the Q-link knobs was assigned to any of the FXs on the submix, this has proven to be really frustrating.
@@mrthingamabob8117 So i finally tried saving it as a user template but still wont work, it doesnt save my Qlink edits for the project tab when assigning them to insert FX parameters on the submixes. What ive done is just re map the parameters every time I re open the project, which has been annoying as fuck
Rule of them, give yourself plenty of headroom and utilize the submixes as much as possible. I'll consider a video on the topic. It's tough with those because they end up being super long videos 🤣
@@TeftyMeems thanks for that. I saw your video with some submix tips but definitely need something a little more in depth. Your videos are really great thanks for all you do
Well, geeze, I had no idea long pressing the q-link button brought anything up, let alone that I could map them to things. I rarely use the q-links for this reason, they always seem to do things I don't care about
Another BIG limitation is that, as of 2.10, q-link and midi mappings made to effects on submixes and return tracks won't get saved in the project file. Meaning you will have to redo all your mappings every time you load the project. No idea why this is. Still works in 2.9 though.
Oh so it wasn't me 🙄. In the new release if you select promram edit or sample edit (etc) on the mpcx and click on it again it won't close. You have to press main again.
It is unfortunate that you can't play a bigger set with any of these grooveboxes except for the sp404. Would love to be able to have a big set on a MPC and use all the advantages of it. Next gen maybe.
Care to elaborate? I'm interested in the MPC as a live performance hub for sequencing other gear, including semi-modular and eurorack stuff. Why can't I play a longer set on it?
Yeah, I can see that being a problem for someone trying to make whole projects or sets all within the box but im leaning more towards using it as a sequencer for my hardware that can save all my compositions as well as automations for both midi and CV. It's quite a nice interface for that, especially being able to see everything on the screen.
@@aubergine777666 I hope it won't be a problem! Thanks for bringing it up. Good thing to consider, especially since im really trying to avoid the problems I have with Ableton crashing when I have too many devices or midi tracks going. Up to 3 clicks on the Qlink bank button or map an external controller...doesn't seem too bad. Any suggestions on budget-friendly and reliable/compatible usb hubs? Does overbridge /hub work with the MPC ONE?
That's a great video but I think you're limiting yourself by not using the 4 q-link pages. You could set one page for each submit for example... It requires some juggling back and forth, indeed, but it multiplies the possibilities by four !
You can't assign multiple things on a single qlink unfortunately. But you can do that with a midi controller and assign multiple parameters on a hardware knob. I have asked akai for macro functionality in mpc long time ago.
