What I like most is that during filming, the script originally had Harvey Keitel's character simply being consumed by the creatures, and he flat out said to Rodriguez, "I want to be a vampire too," so he augmented it so that he could have a moment as well. I love how the movie goes completely sideways in the middle! It reminds me of staying up late on weekends watching B-Movies on a program called (Movies til Dawn). Back in the 1970's in Los Angeles TV went off the air between midnight to around 5am. Sun-Thur. On Fri & Sat they could afford to show low budget movies when the station would normally be closed over-night. The writing budgets & production value were so low that any movie could wander off in random ass directions about halfway in, so I really appreciate the random ass turn from crime drama to vampire movie. Quentin moved with his mother to Torrance, California, when he was four years old. He must of been a fan of (Movies til Dawn).
Clooney is hit or miss sometimes... but he is great in "O Brother Where Art Thou". Also, Fright Night (1985) is a very fun vampire / monster movie classic, that you really should watch. =)
It's actually a Robert Rodriguez movie. Quentin only written this movie, Robert directed. Robert Rodriguez also directed Sin City and a film called Planet Terror which was brilliant.
First time I watched this in the cinema I had NO IDEA what it was about, I was expecting a criminals movie and that's it. So when the transformation took place I was shocked and loved it. Definitely one of the movies which I watched many times on DVD as soon as that was available, usually at night while I was having take away. Usually Chinese, or making my own pizza. Or KFC.
