Great film. I remember first watching it thinking it was a gangster film, then all of a sudden it was like “wtf they’re vampires?”. I guess that goes back to before the days of spoilers. Also, you think George Clooney has a cool little neck tattoo and when he takes his jacket off near the end it’s like “huh that’s cool.” Plus you have Selma Hayek dancing around sexily so it’s a win all round.
The clerk is played by John Hawkes ("American Gangster"), who was Tarantino's acting classmate, and the reporter interviewing John Saxon is played by Kelly Preston ("Christine", ,"Spacecamp", "Sky High"). Also, Juliette's dad, the late character actor Geoffrey Lewis, was in the TV mini-series adaptation of Stephen King's "Salem's Lot", which has its' fair share of vampires.
Love this movie. It's got one of my favorite quotes of all time : "They look like psychos? ... They were vampires. Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits them, I don't give a fuck how crazy they are!" 😂😂😂

Film is really a surprise, at that time with rodriguez coming from desperado and tarantino from pulp fiction you expect that in this movie and start with that tone and setting of crudness and violence, however make this crazy turn and become about surviving against this vampire monters transforming the film experience entirely, great cinematography, direction and cast performances, and of course salma hayek ...damn....
Kirtzman was introduced to Tarantino by Scott Spiegel (writer Evild Dead II and writer/director Intruder). Kirtzman paid Tarantino to adapt his story into a screenplay.
A few weeks ago I watched this with my girlfriend. She had never seen the movie and I was giddy because she had NO IDEA what the twist was. Needless to say, there was a lot of laughter and swearing once it happened 😂

I absolutely loved the first half of the movie, the vampire stuff after not so much. But still a solid 7 for me. I knew I recognised the actor playing the liquor store clerk, he was in both Everest as Doug and Three Billboards recently. John Hawkes.
From Dusk Till Dawn is such a great movie! It’s not for everybody and it’s extremely divisive but it’s so awesome and so well written, well directed, and well acted. Plus, the horror elements and vampire effects are just so awesome, too. In my opinion, a great genre mishmash film.

Hey fellas, good video! I just wanted to add in there that I think Clooney’s makeshift weapon is a Jackhammer with a stake in the end. I’m not 100%, but I’m pretty sure that’s what that is. I like the more lively Gary! Seems like Iain won’t let poor Gary get a word in edgewise sometimes, so I’m glad to actually get his input. Sorry Iain. Also, Hannah did great. Hoping for Interview with the Vampire, The Howling series, and John Carpenter’s Vampires reviews in the future. Fingers crossed.
QT's final film should be the continuation of Kate's story, 30 years later... still driving the same RV but with a few security enhancements as she never mentally recovered. Traveling the outskirts of the Texas border one last time as she just found out she has a terminal illness. She reconnects with her estranged son and daughter, and they embark on what's supposed to be a drive out west, that is, until she catches wind of suspicious deaths occurring in a small New Mexico town. Begrudgingly, she detours with her kids and puts those primal gadgets to use. Son and daughter see with their own eyes how bad ass their momma truly is.
Lads! Another Halloween vampire special now restrictions are lifting? Queen of The Damned, Interview with a vampire? Bram Stokers Dracula?.. I'm game!!

Great review :) I was lucky to first watch this film without knowing what it turns into. It's still one of my favorite movies. I am however a bit surprised by your opinions on the other two films in the franchise. I personally LOVE the prequal (The Hangman's Daughter) and feel it's by far one of the most unaerated films of all time. I also enjoy part 2, but the original and the third one are both among my favorite films. I find it very strange that the 3rd one isn't much more popular than it is... but hey, what do I know? Another of my favourite films is House 2: the Second Story. So maybe I'm just weird, lol. Edit: I also like The Lost Boys 3. But hate John Carpenter's Vampires with a fiery passion.

This movie has one of the best twists in any films I ever seen. You just don't see the vampires angle come till it happens.
The movie is 1 hour and 45 mins. The vamps don't show up until the last 15 minutes
Unless you saw the marketing first, then you only knew it was a vampire movie and the twist was how dark and grounded the opening two acts are

This was originally supposed to be a Tales from the Crypt film but they went with Demon Night instead, same with the Frightners.
