Beautiful build! Cable rails were not used around the flight decks during the 80s, we had safety frames with cloth netting that folded down to horizontal so as not to interfere with flight ops. I can't imagine how to model such a thing.

Incredible, ignoring any flaws from the build, that may have caused headaches. I myself, hope to build Gettysburg, and have a great reference book on the class from Classic Warships, Warship Pictorial series, and hope to get Squadron/Signals version as well. All the best, and take care.

Great video on the Ticonderoga model It is pretty sad that the ship was decommissioned As of that her Sister ship Yorktown is still waiting for scrapping They can still be found in the Philadelphia naval yard I believe, along side with the USS Charles F Adams But how ever the Charles F Adams is waiting to become a Museum ship in Jacksonville, Florida
CG 47 & CG 48 were scrapped because I believe they could not be outfitted with the VLS (vertical launch system) like the other ships of the class that were built later. I was a Gunners Mate Missiles in the navy & always wanted to serve on a Ticonderoga class. I did serve on a Adams Class (USS Robison DDG-12) homeported in San Diego, CA.
Few notes. The Spy 1 on the Tico would be haze grey at all times (the big stop sign looking radar arrays on the sides ). One having them that color would stick out like a sore thumb on the ocean. If I remember correctly talking to the ET's that worked on it, those spy covers aren't even metal.. if they were they were almost never painted, thus why on most photos you will see them lighter than the rest of the superstructure because of sun bleaching. If you wanted to brass something, the capstan covers (the 2 knob looking things on the forecastle above the inlets for the anchor chains) those were brass and we had to polish those stupid things twice a week, especially when Commander Sears was CO because he was a dick. That cylinder on the aft missile deck was an exhaust stack and no matter how well we tried to clean it was always black. it was a horrible pain to deal with, especially for helo crews since they had to shut it off when on was landing or the helo would crash if it flew over it while still on. I get you want her looking worn, but honestly the superstructure could never actually be that brown, mostly because it isn't steel, it doesn't corrode into that color. You want to paint something corroded, paint the corrosion where the hull and superstructure meet. Dissimilar metals, we were constantly needle gunning that whole line and repainting it. Also the wells for the captains jig/RHIB are steel and those corrode so badly every year or 2 the Mounts have to be replaced. Anyways, if it isn't obvious I served on the TIco from 01-04. I been looking for an actual accurate model for her. They don't sell this one anymore and the one I bought from Amazon claiming the be the Tico had VLS launchers and decals that were completely wrong.. it was also tiny. Wish I knew someone that made a decent one anymore. Anyways, it overall looks good, nice to see her again even if she is gone irl. got to see her one last time in Philly a few years ago before she was destroyed. Good memories and bad on that ship. If Cmdr Zieders ever reads this, thank God for you sir, you saved us from an asshole and the last few years with you were a pleasure. Anyways.. enjoyed the vid and thanks for putting up with my nit-picking.

Some nice memories on her. Will miss working on the Tico as a sonar tech. Scrapping it makes me sad but all things come to an end.
Try painting the sides of one of these ships from a punt with a roller. Good times.

Yeah, ya beat me to that one. I deployed on 2 Tico class CG's and one Spruance class DD. From the weather deck down, they're virtually identical.

The hull, deck and some of the superstructure look like the old Dragon USS Spruance kit from 1990ish.
