      Leatherman Skeletool with a bit kit handles all the hex, torx, flat and philips head needs. It’s also a pair of needle nose pliers that close finely enough to use as tweezers, surprisingly capable wire cutter and an absolutely savage knife.
      Oh, and the built in carabiner happens to also be a bottle opener. You know, for emergency bottle opening.

    That little ratchet set is the winner for me because it's using bits that can be replaced when worn or damaged. Plus it looks sexy...

    • @itarry4
      @itarry4 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yhep, seems an easier size and shape to keep in a pocket or even strap to the frame somewhere. Let's face it, if you've splashed out on anything carbon frame, bars, seat rails, whatever, you'd be mad in my mind not to spend a little bit more cash on a top of the range multi-tool that's got a torque wrench in it. Even if you haven't got anything carbon on your bike it's worth it to garentee you're not going to be over tightening anything and/or damaging it.
      Someone like Doddy might have tightened enough nuts in his time to be able to judge the many different torque setting on a MtB but I certainly haven't. 🤔😉🚵💨 🌰🔧 Even if I thought I had it's not something I think it's worth scrimping on compared to the amount of cash it'll cost me to just mess it up once and damage something or waste a ride because I keep under tightening something and it keeps moving.
      It sometimes amazes me what some riders will try to save a few quid on while at the same time spending stupid amounts on new carbon wheels or bars. They think they've been clever by saving a £10 on cheaper break pads or tyres while forking out 2 - 3 Grand plus on new wheels. Whatever bike you've got if it's a decent bike then it's likely to have cost you £2000ish minimum so spending as much as you can afford on a good set of tools ect is still a good idea. They last longer, do a better job, make your life easier and aren't going to let you down when you really need them.
      I ended up making my own set with all the bits I needed. I got basically the best quality I could afford. (Not park as didn't want to mortgage my house but then i can't afford a carbon frame either) However if you do a bit of research and look around a bit before you buy then you can still save some cash, get a top quality tool kit that's light, compact and will probably last you many years at least. It's in a flat roll type case that's easy to to just strap, with a spare innertube on down tube squeezed up against my top tube.

      Yes would like but issue is loosing the bits, not secure in the pouch. Plus vvv expensive. Sexy as tho

      I do like that ratchet (or the Silca once), but the bits look too easy to use. Got a Fabric ratcheting multitool recently which has bigger bits that are held securely inside, but I'm sure it doesn't have the build quality of a Silca since nothing does.

    • @itarry4
      @itarry4 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rupedog I got a really good quality one, with a decent case which I don't use but you could, for £35 or €38 or $42 from Wiggle. It's got %30 off at moment which is why they are a bit cheaper usually £50 apparently it's a set that often gets used by other more expensive companies with their own branding on it. Anyway it's a mini set that has all the adapters and does all the torque settings you might need. It's the > X-Tools Pro Mini Torque Wrench Set with 4/5/6Nm Sleeves < it's been solid for me so far and the small adapter pieces are all bright colours.

He's got some good knowledge as well, maybe not quite as much needy type things as Doddy but his is more of the hands on, been there, seen and fixed that type. It's good to get someone who's got even close to as much technical knowledge as Doddy (didn't think that was possible) but also has a slightly different angle on it.

    Loving the work from Henry, definitely brought something fresh and new to the tech side. Seems to have managed to fit right in with the team which can't be easy to find the right person as the team was already really good and obviously works really well as a unit covering different areas but also bringing that GMBN fun, relaxed madness but with a professional edge.
    l love Henry's obvious hands on experience, it brings a fresh look to the tech side. Both Doddy and he have got great knowledge but Doddys is more the nerdy detail with a great length and breadth of knowledge, all its history, how they got to the newest, latest stuff, how it should work and how it'll effect a bike or ride. While Henry is more hands on, from the coal face or at least mountainside, he's taken it apart, put it back together again a hundred times and knows how it actually does or doesn't work and what the best hacks are to fix it.
    It's like 2 sides of one very, very technical coin. Have to admit I honestly didn't think anyone could really bring anything new to the team, especially on the Tech side with Doddy. Before Henry came Doddy was so on top of everything and the Tech channel was so smooth and detailed that it didn't seem to have any space for anyone new. At first it seemed to be right as it took Henry a bit to really start to fit in, find his feet and his place in the team but it wasn't long at all before he'd relaxed and started to show his real self, his sense of humour and most importantly a new and different side, look, experience, knowledge and opinion to the whole GMBN team.
    I can even accept the backwards cap. 😉🚵💨👦

    I recently bought a decent multi tool from my lbs and I find it almost useless! When I'm on the trail and I go to say... Adjust my brake caliper cuz it's rubbing, I can't because the tool doesn't fit around the hydrologic hose. Or after I service my shocks I have to tighten or fine tune the lever's positiin on my bars , I can't because they're not long enough to get the brakes through the gear shifter. It's honestly useless to me.
    But that ratchet one looks like it would solve all those issues. Longer reach, more torque..

  • @gedrot2486
    @gedrot2486 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I got my self one of those ratchets as my first multi-tool. They are by far the best thing in my kit and the only thing that could top them would be a new bike.
    I have mechanical disc brakes and the inside pads need a 3mm allen-key for manually adjustment about every 30km. I don't mind that anymore, it's just an excuse to use this amazing tool.
    I'm just sad that I can't get the chain-breaker separately as an upgrade. The one I got is heavier then the ratchet-set xD

  • @MrLongboarder87

    Revolvers that take a suppressor don’t really exist outside of movies. I think only 1 or 2 are made. The gap between the cylinder and beginning of the barrel make a suppressor ineffective. I do agree though, the ratchet multi tool is very nice looking piece of kit.

Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

      Depending on your budget I would go with full size tools. In the comfort of your home there is no need to fiddle around with micro tools that aren't as durable. Park & Pedro have some nice but pricey sets. You could also piece together a set and buy things only as you need them. Alan Keyes now, wrenches later, torque wrench even later and a bb tool in a year. Also, bike specific is always needed, a 5mm key is a 5mm key.

      @@gmbn I get the idea, it just really comes across as a demo of three Topeak products. No mention of 'other brands may be available', etc, and rather than pros and cons of each type, it plays out more like a description of the features of those specific tools. Don't get me wrong, you guys make some great content and I know you have to fund it somehow, and the presenters all make the most of the scripts they're given, but these feel more and more prevalent recently and they're definitely lowering the overall quality.

    • @DirtSailor5

      They do label their paid promotion videos. While it may not be a paid promotion per se,I bet topeak sent several big boxes of tools. GMBN wanted to do a multi tool video, they looked around and grabbed 3. There's probably 6 on every desk. Next week they'll be doing a video on different types of bike pumps, guess what, they have eight different topeaks in the closet that are too easy to grab. It may not be GMBN's plan but it was probably topeak's plan to get product in lots of videos.
