- Rode NT1A - front of the kit
- Behringer C2 - behind the kit overhead pair
- Soundsation ED007 - bass drum
Recorded with a Behringer X Air 16 digital mixer
Minimal EQ, Compression on the mix.

it totally kills !!!!!! that sound !!!! i love small kit ... i had Gretsch Renown bebop kit with 18" kick ... still too big for me (brilliant for jazz but wanna buy 16" or 14" inch kick) ...
Thank you! Yes, it sounds way better than you expect from this size. It’s totally stage compatible with good heads and good micing.
I converted my 16" floor tom to a kick and it sounds great - with the right heads. In fact I have 2 different batter heads on at the same time with foam dampener rings on both heads too. Its surprising how low of a sound you can get. You should try it too.
I just recently purchased a Pdp New Yorker changed the heads and played it live and it sounded amazing!! Try it out

How did you tune the kick to sound like that? I use this kit at my aunt's and it's not really capable of low end like that. Is it how its mic'd and mixed?
Normal “as low as possible” tuning, with front head quite tight ( to give tone to the sound).
In acoustic, the kick sounds a bit weak, but the mic gives it a more punchy, fuller sound.
Use a fuzzy beater and just above no waves in the head tuning. I have a P3 powerstroke coated on my bass and coated pinstripes on the toms and it is amazing.

Hi, can you suggest what bass drum head will work well for a 14-inch bass drum? (genre - jazz/RnB). I am in India and we don't have 14-inch bass drum heads available here. So any alternative that works will be a big help. Thanks!!

What bass drum batter head did you use?
It was Remo Powerstroke 3 coated. Reso was Ambassador coated.
What is that snare?
