    Hi, can you suggest what bass drum head will work well for a 14-inch bass drum? (genre - jazz/RnB). I am in India and we don't have 14-inch bass drum heads available here. So any alternative that works will be a big help. Thanks!!

    Hi Bradley, this setup is awesome! What kind of cymbals are you playing here? Any suggestions for a such kit?

    I play in a 'classic rock' bar band. This kit sounds great! Would you advise using it in a rock band? I dread lugging bigger drums around, getting lazy in my old age.

    • @captainbac
      @captainbac 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Joseph.
      Well, it's a tough one that. If you're playing with at least the kick mic'd up then yes, it can work. Without a mic on the kick it definitely won't work in anything larger than a living room.
      Other than that, 2-ply heads on top and bottom of 13" floor should give you just enough low end for a workable "floor" tom.
      Read my other replys for kick head choice.
      Oh and if it's heavy rock then maybe not, but I'm sure you know what an 8" and 13" tom sounds like. Kick could handle pretty heavy with good eq

    • @captainbac
      @captainbac 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      One other thing, it really does sound like it does in the video. There very little post production on that.
      Sorry, missed "classic" rock.
      I'd say yes, it will work.

    Can you use a dual pedel on that tiny bass drum ?

  • @13ericz

    Beautiful kit, I just bought one myself!
    What batter head are you using on the bass drum? I'm trying to get that exact sound out of mine.

    • @captainbac
      @captainbac 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Eric Zapien Hi Eric. I use a Remo Emperor Coated as the batter head (the side you hit) and an Ambassador coated on the front. I have a strip of felt on the batter side and a small pillow inside the kick. It's tricky.
      With the setup I just described you'd absolutely have to be mic'd up: it'll be a boxy whack acoustically.

    • @captainbac
      @captainbac 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Eric Zapien It is beautiful indeed :) You get a blue one as well?

    • @captainbac
      @captainbac 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Eric Zapien One other thing I found I had to do was to move the beater of my Jojo Meyer pedal down so that the felt end hit closer to the middle of the drum. That gave it a fair amount more bottom end. A mic inside sounds good, in the port hole not so much. Good luck and congrats on buying a sweet little baby

    • @13ericz
      @13ericz 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bradley Cooper yeah I got the beautiful blue as well. Thanks for the info, I currently have an Evans G12 coated on the bass batter and use a Vic Firth Fleece beater. Have been thinking of switching to an Emperor or PS3 coated.

    • @captainbac
      @captainbac 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see that Evans g12 is a single ply. I'm pretty sure you'd be better off with 2 ply.
      Also, I used Evans for years before realizing that compared to Remo emperors, the g2 heads made my Gretsch kit sound boxy. The emperors are the bomb

  • @scottmullen1055

    Hi Bradley, I have just bought myself one of these. What hardware are you using, as it seems very stable. Snare and Hi Hat are what I am most interested in. Thanks in advance.

    • @bradleycooper3502
      @bradleycooper3502 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Scott sorry for the massive delay 😬 I moved overseas and on. That would have been an Iron Cobra hats stand and probably a pearl snare stand. I can’t remember that model, but it needs to be expensive 😭
      I now use speed cobra pedals and the most solid, ball hinged snare stand I can afford.

    What mount have you used to put the tom and the cymbal on the bass drum?

    • @captainbac
      @captainbac 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Matthew Julius Hi Matthew. The mount is a combination of the Sonor tom mount that came with the kick and then a clamp with a cymbal boom attached to that. I normally have another cymbal (Zildjian Beautiful Baby ride for jazz gigs or crash for the other stuff) mounted in the same way, but going in the other direction: towards the hats.

    Hey Bradley can you tell me wich heads you are using for the 8 inch tom and the 13 inch floortom, top and resonant heads please?

    • @captainbac
      @captainbac 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey
      I'm using Remo Emperors on top and the stock heads at the bottom. I've never bothered changing the bottom heads on my kits.

    • @captainbac
      @captainbac 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I lied. I use a clear double ply in the bottom of the floor tom and the stick head in the 8".
      On the kick it's a coated emperor on the side you hit with a strip of felt and an Ambassador on the front.

    • @captainbac
      @captainbac 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stock head, not stick head :p

    Hi, can we put the bass tom in the kick drum ?

    • @sonorsa6144
      @sonorsa6144  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi David, the SSE Martini kit wasn't designed to fit the drums into each other. Even if you took the drum heads off the bass drum the floor tom together with the leg mounts is still too big to fit inside. Unfortunately...

    Bass drum is too flat sounding-- needs more boom,, clear heads with a very small pillow barely touching the back head or not touching at all.
