I love how he pulls back at “alright! You sir, how about a shave?” 1:47 and then literally looses it at 2:13 . I’ve never seen it done this way and it’s brilliant; all the other Sweeneys just go totally unhinged at that whole part. It reminds me of how acting teachers say that if you’re trying to play drunk you shouldn’t actually seem drunk, but instead be wavering but trying really hard to seem sober bc that’s what drunk ppl do. He’s trying sooo hard to seem together to an eerie degree, to a degree that only means he can be mad, but he can’t always keep it together. Luv luv luv!
I saw the performance from the day before this recording. Sweat from his forehead pouring down his face as he pranced on all fours glazing into the audience with eyes filled with rage and the huge shadow cast by the lighting on the stage. It was stunning to behold and Christopher was brilliant.
I saw him 1/20 and thought about his Epiphany constantly until I finally bought another ticket to see this performance (Feb 8 - his last before Aaron Tveit came in). He was genuinely terrifying - I actually wondered if he was going to jump into the audience at one point.
I was lucky to have seen this revival with Josh Groban and Nicholas as his understudy. Personally, I liked his performance as Sweeney more than Groban's. He was simply phenomenol.
I'm not kidding when I say I have never heard this score sung quite like this. I was covered in goosebumps when I saw him.
This should’ve been Nicholas Christopher’s show ngl

His Sweeny is scary, like he is ready to kill the whole audience. Rather brilliant.

The emotion, the rage and the power in his voice is outstanding. Love it

Dang it!!! THIS is who I want to seeeeee. I’ve seen it twice. Josh and Aaron. Not scary enough.

Wow!
Where is this cast preforming? This is great.
They were on Broadway for the last month, now they’ve been replaced by Sutton Foster and Aaron Tevit.
I know this show backwards and forwards and have played lucy twice...i like his intensity but he's very hard to understand.
